Hi guys im South Korean male who currently serving in South Korea military as a conscript soldier. I recently knew Finland has a conscript like us. Since i joined the military, i hate this place and think its a such a waste time. Our military durations are 18mts in army, 20mths Navy and 21mths Airforce. Most thing i want to know that is why does many finnish guys go military even they have choice to go alternative service? We also have alternative service in here but its 3yrs required. So most of them just go military rather than go alternative service. But i heard duration of Finland civil service almost equal to military service and can go home more easily than military. Even do so, why many of them choose to go military instead of alternative service? Im just curious guys! As the person who conscripted to army and currently serve thanks!(And sorry for my English)

I just finished 18 months of mandatory military duty in Korea.
For me, I think the Korean army is powerful enough against North Korea or the Chinese army in case of another Korean war. However, it feels safer and reassuring that with the army of the United States, South Korea won't lose against any country in the world.
So I'd say I have very positive opinion on United States army. So my question is how does American think of Korean army?
I recently watched the show DP on Netflix and would like to know if what it depicted is accurate to what it is like to actually be in the South Korean Army or is it dramatizing it? I grew up in a military family in Canada and have always had the military around me so I have heard stories about life in the Canadian Forces, but DP made the experience in the South Korean Army look different.
