A list of puns related to "Soccer Players Names"

If you want to post players of the past, they should have played together in the same period, and name the period
I don't know if this kind of post is common on the sub, but I've seen a lot of people having trouble understanding the complex naming conventions of lusophonic countries, specially when it comes to "anglicized" names and I thought that I, as a Brazillian and a Historian enthusiast, could help.
Hope it's at least an interesting read.
Why do Brazilian and Portuguese soccer players only have one name
Short answer. Because it's easier.
Long answer? Well, take a seat in your DeLorean and let's get this baby to 88mph, we are going back in time!
The power of love... is a curious thing...
Almost every culture west of Indochina use the <given name> <surname> template (occasionally with an added middle name), whereas in China, Japan and some other Asian countries it is usually reversed. In that same vein, some communities in Arab countries have no "formal" surname per se, and instead use the name of a clan or sub-clan, so that you could find entire villages, with hundreds of people, all sharing the same surname. If we go further back, the ancient Greeks only had given names, and used the suffix "of <a city>" to differentiate themselves (sometimes they also had a famous cognomen - a nickname, basically). An example would be "Herodotos of Halikarnassos"

Everybody knows Gaius Julius Caesar, for example, but did you know there are at least a half-dozen famous Romans who had that name - including, by the way, the first Roman emperor, Augustus?
The catch is, that naming convention could get a little dicey after some generations. Take for example the famous Roman general Pu

I canβt wait for the day when I can watch a brown guy drop 40 points in an nba game or score a hatrick in the premier league.
In honour of England v USA Womenβs soccer semi final I thought Iβd post the first names of both current squads as they are some interesting names in there.
