Sometimes I wonder how my life could have played out differently had he stayed. Of course there’s no telling he would’ve gone anywhere post-college, but its definitely fun to wonder. Before anyone asks, he played right guard.

Pretty much the title i guess. I got accepted into the college but I wasn't a finalist for their full ride scholarship which is free tuition and room and board and a 3k stipend each summer, which I'm really really disappointed about considering I have higher stats than the previous Kotzen scholars, and I really thought I had a good application with very strong ECs, essays, and teacher recs but I guess it just wasn't meant to be. It has like a 3% acceptance rate in normal years, and probably increased in the pandemic. I just feel really really sad, it wasn't even my dream school although it was my mom's alma mater, I liked it and thought the idea of no student debt is so appealing but whatever happens happens for a reason ig. any tips for dealing with rejection would be much appreciated tho!
Hi everyone! I'm a creative writer with an interest in YA literature and am currently in my final year of undergrad in the Boston area. My plan has always been to teach high school while pursuing writing. This semester I started my pre-prac student teaching and am supposed to continue student teaching with more responsibilities in the spring, but I don't think I want to continue. It's an entirely remote placement (thankfully, as I wouldn't feel safe being in-person right now), most of the kids keep their cameras off during Zoom sessions, and I'm not getting any of the classroom management practice that I'd need to take over my own classroom. But I'm also feeling really demoralized as a student teacher these days; teacher health and safety is clearly at the bottom of too many people's list of priorities. I've also realized that so little of a teacher's day is spent actually engaging with the content, and while I think it's important to focus on social-emotional learning, I'm not a social worker.
This all feels like an omen that I'm making a terrible career choice, especially where my real passion is writing and literature, so I'm looking at other career options. Maybe publishing? Maybe library science? I'm still brainstorming ideas, so I don't know too much about the field, but my undergrad degree is in English, not education, so I think that would be helpful? I've been looking at Simmons' Children's Lit program in writing for a few years now and decided to apply for next fall, but might go with the MILS option instead. Does anyone have any experience with Simmons? I really appreciate any and all feedback!
Hi! I was recently accepted into the MLIS program at the University of Washington, as well as the program at Simmons. For some context, I currently live in Connecticut, so attending Simmons would be a much easier transition for me in terms of location, as I have friends and family in the area. I would love to live in the Pacific Northwest at some point, but I do not know anyone in that area and might want to be closer to home for grad school. I also received a merit scholarship from Simmons, which would make Simmons cost 22k less than UWash for me. I was accepted into the residential program at UWash, and it seems like Simmons is more flexible with allowing both online and in-person courses. My career goal is to become a public librarian with a focus in Children's Literature, and I know both schools have strong programs, but UWash is always listed as better than Simmons. My question is if anyone has had experience with either program, and what I should consider when making my decision. Thank you so much in advance!
