Hello, folks, and welcome back to the Prince album club, covering the period in which Prince is making films. Today, /u/jkread3 wrote up Prince's "Sign O' The Times."
Every Prince album feels like a radical reinvention of his style and image, but none moreso than Sign "O" the Times, his first without the Revolution and his first double album. Part of a marathon recording session that included Dream Factory, Camille, and the triple album Crystal Ball - any of which could have been the album we eventually ended up with - Sign "O" the Times is the best indicator we have of Prince's rampant refusal to be pinned down.
This is an explosion of everything Prince was better at than anyone and everything he'd ever wanted to try - Sign "O" the Times struts between the foggy lines of genre with a confidence few artists ever master, if they even try. The thing most songs have in common is the use of the Linn LM-1 drum machine, played masterfully by The Queen of Percussion Sheila E. Though it has plenty of quieter moments, the majority of Sign "O" the Times' 80 minute runtime is devoted to the beat that drives us forward. Prince, as an artist and man, was concerned with what the future held - something that drove a wedge into many of his personal and professional relationships.
There's no controversy regarding Prince's musical prowess. But for a brief spell, Blankies were asked to consider his ability as a filmmaker as he not so nimbly defeated both Guy Ritchie and Tom Hooper before a brutal loss to Michael Bay. I would have loved this series for many reasons but none more so than that Blankies would have watched Prince's Sign "O" the Times, a concert film that belongs next to Stop Making Sense as one of the greatest in its field. Featuring 11 songs from the album and a piano version of "Little Red Corvette", Sign "O" the Times is bursting with a liveliness that Prince struggled to bring to his other films as both a director and performer. (I say this as someone with an enormous affinity for Under the Cherry Moon.)
Prince belonged in front of an audience. I suspect, had he lived longer, we've have seen him go to Broadway like David Byrne and The Boss. We'll never get to see Prince live again, but Sign "O" the Times offers the perfect glimpse into just how good he was - it's corny to say, but it really does feel like it's happening in front of you. His performance of "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man" is raw and funky and silly; musically, he rarely breaks fr

Do you guys know if it's on Amazon or Hulu or something? I'm dying to see it but it's not on Netflix and the DVDs are all wicked expensive because they're Japanese imports. Have you guys see it anywhere
Sign Oโ The Times is a bit different from the rest of movies in Princeโs filmography because it is a concert film that consists mostly of footage from the Sign Oโ The Times Tour in 1987. The movie depicts Prince and his 1987-1989 band in all their performing glory. Itโs marked by excellent musicianship, showmanship, special effects, and choreography from Prince and his band. This being said Prince shines above with his amazing vocals, dance, and musicianship on each and every song.
Sign Oโ The Times is the most critically acclaimed of all of Princeโs films and is looked back as one of the best documentationโs of not only Princeโs ability to perform live but also as something for current performers to strive to achieve. Economically the film saw moderate success but lack of promotion and lack in interest in US caused it to leave theatres quickly.

In Pikmin Bloom, there are incentives to use both your Niantic Account and your Nintendo Account, tied together.
You can only do this if your first-time sign-in is using the same method you already use in an existing Niantic game, and then sync your Nintendo account during the tutorial.
If you use a โNintendo Accountโ account to start playing the game, and then try to connect a credential you use in Pokรฉmon Go, like a Google or Facebook account: then it will say that that account already exists, and you will not be able to combine them.
This information is confirmed in the first paragraph of the Pikmin Bloom โTrouble signing in?โ page, but you will not be warned before signing in.
I am livid. I now have to choose between an account that has my existing Pokรฉmon Go friends list, or an account that uses my Mii, has an exclusive Pikmin in it, and probably earns platinum coins on my Nintendo account.
I just got the CD of SoTT, and you donโt know how much better it sounds compared to the digital versions youโd find on streaming services. The Ballad of Dorothy Parker doesnโt have that robotic voice, Housequake and Hot Thing doesnโt sound like something youโd make out of a windows movie maker or something. Maybe itโs my earbuds that gives SoTT that bad sound on my phone, but it sounds incredible on CD. The CD is rather quiet however, Iโm looking forward to the vinyl release.
E: Cant wait to get my hands on the vinyl copy*
Just curious, I'm confused why they couldn't fit 16 songs/1 hour and 20 minutes on one disc. I've had this question for a while now, I don't expect any super advance answers.
This week we have the first post-Revolution album; Sign Oโ The Times. This album is an album that gives the idea of genres the finger. Funk, R&B, Soul, Electro, Rock, and so much more. From the socially aware and still relevant title track to "Adore"; the love ballad that makes all other love ballads seem like a junior high crush. Sign Oโ The Timeโs is one of Princeโs most critically acclaimed albums and is often in contention for his magnum opus. The album went platinum in the US and contained four singles; โSign Oโ The Timeโ, โU Got The Lookโ, โIf I Was Your Girlfriendโ, and โI Could Never Take The Place Of Your Manโ. The albumโs tour was also recorded and created into a concert film of the same name.
Feel free to share, discuss, debate, praise, or whatever your heart desires in the comments! Remember to wear your peach and black.
Edit: Sorry for reposting this. I messed up the title cause I was out while posting and it was driving me insane.
I much prefer the version of this song was it is in the Sign O' the Times movie, particularly the way Prince's vocals sound. Is there an actual official release of that version of the song somewhere? Maybe buried somewhere in the depths of his discography that I am unaware of? I like the original version too, but the version in the movie is just fire.
Am I the only one that prefers this version?

I have to say, this was well worth the money, and it's on sale rn.
I'm gonna rate this a 5/5, the only reason it is not a 7/5 is because the exclusion of Adore and Dorothy Parker is inexcusable. However, everything that is on here is fantastic. This man was a master at what he did, just watch this movie and you'll see what I mean. He owns the show and never lets go, it's honestly incredible that he could turned a couple of my least favorite songs (I love the whole album, but by "least favorite," I mean the songs that are not the best) and makes even those amazing live.
Anyways, buy the damn thing and you'll never regret it.
Naked women. homosexuals. the river of Euphrates drying up. you know all of that shit. Muslims talk about it a lot these days social media and no matter how hard i try to dismiss all of these things i just can't ignore how scarily they are relevant these days, I've been thinking, what if islam is true and I'm just being pulled by the desires of this dunya and now i gotta get back to islam as fast as possible when deep down in my heart i never wanted any of this and i truly want a different life where i can pursue my dreams. i'm just so lost.
Has anyone seen it at the cinemas? Thoughts?

Somehow this song (still) feels appropriate for these days, and these times. Times when I just want to reach out to everyone. Strange times. Where reality has gone far beyond what words can say. With progress, we'll always have setbacks. But we're damn lucky to be who we are.
Oh yeah
In France a skinny man
Died of a big disease with a little name
By chance his girlfriend came across a needle
And soon she did the same
At home there are seventeen-year-old boys
And their idea of fun
Is being in a gang called The Disciples
High on crack, totin' a machine gun
Time, time
Hurricane Annie ripped the ceiling of a church
And killed everyone inside
You turn on the telly and every other story
Is tellin' you somebody died
Sister killed her baby 'cuz she couldn't afford to feed it
And we're sending people to the moon
In September my cousin tried reefer for the very first time
Now he's doing horse, it's June
Times, times
It's silly, no'
When a rocket ship explodes
And everybody still wants to fly
Some say a man ain't happy
Unless a man truly dies
Oh why
Time, time
Baby make a speech, Star Wars fly
Neighbors just shine it on
But if a night falls and a bomb falls
Will anybody see the dawn
Time, times
It's silly, no'
When a rocket blows
And everybody still wants to fly
Some say a man ain't happy, truly
Until a man truly dies
Oh why, oh why, Sign O the Times
Time, time
Sign O the Times mess with your mind
Hurry before it's to late
Let's fall in love, get married, have a baby
We'll call him Nate... if it's a boy
Time, time
Time, time
I just wanna know what the difference is between each title. Is it," Sign ''O'' The Times", "Sigh O' The Times" or,"Sign 'O' The Times? I've seen each different one used. I just wanna know what the difference is with each one.
