The 2018 KBS Entertainment Awards has revealed its list of Daesang (Grand Prize) nominees!
On December 17, a spokesperson for the 2018 KBS Entertainment Awards stated, “Many entertainers showed outstanding performances on KBS’s variety programs this year. We chose five of them as nominees for the Daesang.
“The five Daesang nominees for the 2018 KBS Entertainment Awards are Kim Joon Ho, who is currently appearing on ‘2 Days & 1 Night’ and ‘Gag Concert’; Shin Dong Yup, who is leading ‘Immortal Songs’ and ‘Hello Counselor’; Lee Dong Gook, who is already in his third year of showing his nurturing side as a father on ‘The Return of Superman’; Lee Young Ja, the head of the ‘Hello Counselor’ household; and Yoo Jae Suk, the icon and center of ‘Happy Together.'”
Notably, this year marks only the second time that a woman has been nominated for the Daesang—and should Lee Young Ja win, she will be the first female Daesang winner in KBS history.
With two trophies each, Yoo Jae Suk and Shin Dong Yup currently hold the title for the most KBS Entertainment Award Daesangs. Yoo Jae Suk won the award in both 2005 and 2014, while Shin Dong Yup claimed the prize in 2002 and 2012. Kim Joon Ho has also won the Daesang once before, in 2013.
The 2018 KBS Entertainment Awards will take place on December 22 at 9:20 p.m. KST, with Shin Hyun Joon, Yoon Shi Yoon, and AOA’s Seolhyun hosting the ceremony.

Comedian Shin Dong Yup and six other men will be working together in a new variety show. TV Chosun’s “Going to the End” (literal title) is a reality documentary where entertainers explore amazing phenomenons from all over the world and experience them firsthand. It is a documentary that is interesting and touching as well as funny and warm.
The real experience variety show “Going to the End” is composed of four parts: “On the Way to School” (literal title) starring actors Lee Kyu Han and Kim Jin Woo, “Luxury Wild House” (literal title) starring close friends and comedians Heo Kyung Hwan and Park Sung Kwang, “In the Line of Fire” (literal title) starring comedian Jung Sung Ho, and “Producer Don” (literal title) starring Don Spike.
Shin Dong Yup shared, “When I first received the offer, I was interested in the project because it was different from existing variety shows. There are two kinds of programs I usually host. One is a program that is really fun, and the other is a program that I can experience things through, relate with, think seriously about life, and reflect. When I saw the proposal for ‘Going to the End,’ it was close to the latter. I was curious about the new world I would be able to see through the program, and because the cast members were juniors I am close to, I was more attached to it. Also, the latter programs I have been in were successful in the long run.”

The MC lineup for tvN's upcoming show 'Amazing Saturday' has been confirmed with Shin Dong Yup, Park Na Rae, Moon Se Yoon, Girl's Day's Hyeri, SHINee's Key, Kim Dong Hyun, and Hanhae. The cast will play various games in a studio to win popular food dishes from famous outdoor markets all over Korea. It's also been reported that the show will consist of various segments.

Shin Dong Yup has been confirmed as the MC for SBS's upcoming Chuseok holiday pilot program 'Scene Stealer'!
'Scene Stealer' is a new type of program that calls on actors to infuse elements of variety into acting. The program will invite actors who are 'scene stealers' in various drama/film genres.
Hwang In Young, the producer in charge of the show, relayed, "Shin Dong Yup is the best MC in Korea who boasts acting skills to garner himself a huge following and earned the moniker 'God Dong Yup.' We anticipate for him to play a central role among all the scene stealers of different generations and genres."
I really want to believe him, but there is so much that he changed. It does make me wonder if it’s all true… Some parts I understand, such as lying about informing on his mother and brother. But other parts, like having actually been in camp 18, and escaping more than once… why would he ever lie about that? Then again, I can’t imagine the psychological effects any defector might experience, that might make them pathological liars as a defense mechanism. What do you think?

Yay for lockdown in Sydney I guess? Well it certainly allowed me to get this out pretty quickly. I've had my eye on this show since it was announced, especially since I've sort of been in a rut of late when it comes to things to watch.
I don't like the translation "Sea of Hope" for this title, but it's what on their official youtube videos so I guess it's the 'official' English title. But it's a shocking translation that makes no sense considering there was both a "wish teaser" on youtube, and they explicitly use the English word "wish" in the show, but what can I do?
I have no idea if this show is being picked up by any streaming services, even if jtbc shows tend not to, because the cast is pretty stacked. I've not seen anyone else say they're subbing it, nor have I seen anything from viu or viki, so I'm assumi

Some people have asked about the on screen captions. If you've watched any of the other shows I've done, you'll know that I don't sub them unless they explain something that isn't vocally or visually explained. Now, if you follow me on twitter, you'll know this already, but around the same time I was working on E1, a subbing team was formed for this show, and none of us realised until after I'd already finished E1. We've decided that I'll continue to do my thing, getting the "base" subs out in my style as I always have done, and then Bada Alba Team will take my subs, make them pretty, and they're doing all the captions, very stylised, very detailed, etc. This way, the main dialogue and such will be the same, but one version will be out much quicker, while the other will be much more detailed.
