I watched this show twice in high school, when the scope of my experience was very limited. Now Iβm rewatching for the first time in years at 21, and itβs definitely a different experience.
I used to only relate to Claire. Now I see myself in all the Fishers, and in Brenda as well. Itβs like I always knew the show was unusually insightful about human nature, but Iβm much more able to understand why that is after the experiences Iβve had since leaving home (and coming back, thanks to covid).
Iβd love it if anyone who has seen SFU more than once could share any similar experiences!
EDIT: Thank you to everyone who responded! These were exactly the kind of answers I was looking for. I never get to talk about this show, because no one I know has seen it, so it was really fun reading these.
I know a lot of people are complaining and want a hybrid model. I don't agree to remote or online classes at all. Why would I go and pay university when I can learn from youtube or udemy. I don't see a point of online learning, the hybrid model. The whole point of going to SFU or any university is to learn from each other. I don't know about other people, but I have not learnt much by sitting in small box of zoom in front of my camera. This method is good if you want to learn something quick or for few weeks. Not for F**king 4 years. I support SFU for ditching this model, and very happy with this decision.
Also, we are vaccinated, I'm sure that played a huge role in deciding in person classes.
Hi guys,
I'm planning on completely withdrawing from SFU. Does anyone know how I can do that? Is there a form or something to fill out?
Thanks
Hi everyone!
I wanted to make a thread for anyone who's applied for ubc and sfu pdp for 2022/2023, or for anyone who's experienced with the programs!
I'm anxious about the waiting period. All the little concerns, questions, checking updates, etc. I'd love it if we could all go through this together and support each other along the way!
About me: I applied for elementary. My last 60 credits GPA is 4.2, cgpa is about 3.8.
5-6 work experiences listed with about ~2,200 hours of relevant work experience in about 3 distinct fields related to teaching. But no actual classroom experience due to Covid-19.
I've read previous comments on older pdp posts and ubc seems stricter with grades, but sfu is my first choice!
Please comment about yourself and if you have any questions! Looking forward to reading about you!
Sorry I just want to rant a little bit. I'm trying to access my unofficial transcript. It took me 5 min to go to the right page. Then I clicked "View Report", it's still loading for 30 MINUTES... until now...
Why is go.sfu an awful-designed website?
- SLOW-LOADING
- UNBELIEVABLE NAVIGATIONAL STRUCTURE
- POOR TYPOGRAPHY -> UNREADABLE
- BAD CHOICE OF COLOR (LIGHT RED WTF, IT'S NOT EVEN MATCH THE OFFICIAL RED OF SFU) -> TRIGGER STRESS RESPONSE
YOU NAME IT!
Hi everyone. This will be my first semester with lots of spare time on campus and I decided Iβd like to start using the gym. Iβm not sure where to begin really though and would like to know about the facilities before I get there for the first time. Basically all I know is that Iβve got to book a time in advance. What kind of equipment is available? Are there showers available to use after? Iβd appreciate any tips or pointers! :)
I literally went through every related post so I promise this is not a "oh another post that can be answered by the first google answer" question.
I am currently a year 1 international student who changed my major to computer science this year. I applied to UBC, SFU and Alberta as an international transfer student so far but I have narrowed down the choice to the latter two since UBC is way too expensive. My GPA for the first term is 4+/4.3 so I think I might be in a good position in getting admitted.
my major concerns in deciding which school to go:
other factors, such as the climate, parties and social life aren't really important to me.
for the first two concerns, as I know, SFU has a trimester schedule while the accelerated third semester of Alberta allow students to take up to 4 courses in total only due to the workload...? so in general is it expected to complete my degree in SFU in a shorter time? And multiplying the cost in Vancouver and Alberta, will it cancel out the difference in tuition cost even SFU is more expensive (co-op income too!)?? I have totally no idea how different is the cost to live in both areas.
for the last concern, I have read that Alberta students could also get internships from big companies if they spend enough time on side-projects, which I have no concerns at all. However, I'm more interested in stuffs like AI and machine learning instead of software engineering, and I believe I should get a grad school degree to enter these fields. So it seems its easier to build relationships with profs, especially in AI field in Alberta or even get research experiences if I entered the Honours program; whereas research opportunities doesn't seem to be a thing in SFU...? How important are these factors when applying grad schools? Is it preferred to get co-op experiences anyway so I could still work in the industry if my grades go south and found myself not a research material? On the other hand, how important is it to get co-op experience if I am aiming for grad school?
thank you guys!!
This is so sad π She only graduated a few years before the attack.

Is the SFU snap app (iOS) not working for anyone else? It hasnβt loaded at all today, just been perpetually showing me its loading my schedule on the Home Screen. In the βcoursesβ tab it says βunable to retrieve coursesβ, but the homepage just shows the loading icons. Iβve logged out and in, deleted and renown loaded the app, but nothing has changed.
We are interested in the new condos up at SFU, but they seem to have a really quick turn over in sales. I heard that the soundproofing is terrible in Altitude building... does anyone have 2 cents on the Peak, Terraces or Altitude?
Wow...what an emotional roller coaster the last two episodes were.
GREAT SERIES, GREAT SHOW, and AMAZING CAST.
So many memorable scenes. My favorite is when David picks up the hitchhiker and takes him on a wile run around town. It went from a good time to a "holy shit" moment real quick. Time to re-watch the whole series again!
I already have a bachelor's degree in Psychology and I am struggling trying to figure out what I want to do after graduating. I am considering a career in HR. I know that BCIT has a great advanced diploma program. However I don't know if I can afford to do school full time for 9 months. I know BCIT also has a part time HR certificate, however it it is 15 courses and if I take 2 courses per semester that will approx be done in a little over 2 years. I am ok with this option because at least I would get to work while pursuing the certificate. However I know SFU has a certificate as well that is only 6 courses. Not only that but there certificate is accredited with CPHR.
Is an SFU certificate enough to get me an entry level job for HR? I am not looking to jump into a mid role right away I just want to break into the industry and work my way up.
I am international student and needed to know how hard it is to get into SFU. Is the application process strenuous...plus I had some gap years about 2 and half will it be too much of a problem. Then the tuition for health science anyone got an idea? Thanks..
I started watching SFU as a teenager when it first aired on HBO. I loved it so fucking much that when I was a college student living on my own, too poor to afford cable and HBO (there was no HBOGo or HBO Now app back then), I spent A LOT of money slowly building my SFU DVD box set collection. I had all the seasons. I cherished them and watched them on loop in my down time. Well, I was living with my boyfriend at the time, and I went to Spain to study abroad for a month. While I was gone, he relapsed and sold all my DVDs, including my SFU collection, to some used Music Store for cash to buy drugs. Fucking bastard. Not that I have a DVD player to play them on anyway, but the inside covers of the box sets had beautiful photos of the cast. I wish I still had them. First world problems, I know. Boo hoo.
Edit: Looks 50/50 split. Very interesting.
(This is regarding SFU going back in person classes)
what would you get?? or if you have one, what is it?
i feel like a little green hearse would be cute, or a good quote
got this idea from the gilmore girls sub
Hey guys,
Prior to the pandemic SFU ran a philosophy cafe where a topic would be moderated by someone from the school and anyone could come by and have a friendly conversation about a thought provoking subject. The cafes ran throughout the lower mainland at libraries and other public venues.
I was poking around on SFUβs continuing studies site and it doesnβt look like they are running them anymore. Iβd assume it has to do with covid. Anyone know of anything similar ?
Thanks !
For inspiration of creating something... thanks.
I am in 12th standard currently and looking to apply to sfu(first choice was ubc but was way expensive and read that sfu is better in terms of co-op and professors). So right now, I am confused that should I do my first and second year(computer science) from a college like langara or douglas and then transfer to sfu, ubc or any other uni or get directly into university and if colleges, then why? They are cheaper that I know and have lesser batch sizes too. Can you suggest some other uni/colleges in or near vancouver as my uncle lives there and I would be staying with him only.
