A list of puns related to "Self Reliance"
I'm interested in anything related to prep or self-reliance. Both in the home/on private land, and surviving in the wild (I live in the U.S.). Mostly interested in food preservation, gardening, and homesteading for now.
Hi all, first-time poster here! I am just starting out as a personal trainer (as a side business) and am doing a bit of research on the problems people may have experienced with other PTs.
One area I am particularly interested in is promoting reliance vs. self-efficacy. Personally I'm passionate about giving people the tools they need (in terms of education and confidence) to eventually be able to train and eat well on their own, and I feel like that process should be as quick as possible as long as adherence and accountability needs are taken into account. On the other hand, listening to podcasts and based on a few anecdotes from friends, I got the impression that there are PTs out there who like to position themselves as the "expert" the client cannot do without, and do not place much emphasis on education in order to promote reliance and continued sales of sessions.
Am curious to hear more about this sort of problem - do you feel this is common? Do people have experiences with/horror stories of PTs placing continued business above their clients' development of self-efficacy?
By the way, I am a guy and would be very grateful for answers from both guys and gals (I would have posted in r/fitness also but I've read their rules and this seems to broad a topic).
Thank you in advance for any input, it's much appreciated!!
Myself and another TLD streamer (BladesCJ) are currently attempting a challenge called Self Reliance made Kimiota.
Challenge is as follows..
Drop all starting clothes. Can only eat hunted/foraged/scavenged food (no old world food/cattails/rabbit meat), can only wear crafted clothing. Cannot use stones on rabbits. No sewing kit for crafting. No Bedroll/Hacksaw/Antiseptic/Pills/Herbal Tea/Coffee/BBT. Cannot harvest for cloth except for RUINED clothing. The Hammer can only be used at Forge. Survive 50 days. Created by the great KIMIOTA. www.twitch.tv/kimiota
It's one hell of a challenge but so far going very well for both of us. We're looking to become the next 2 people on the small list of people who have successfully completed this challenge and were using two pretty different strategies.
I recommend giving this a try for anyone who is looking for a challenge beyond regular interloper gameplay...if not you can always just come watch us try it! Lol
If you want to follow our progress you can find us at

I'm interested to see what people think of this, and if anyone tries it let us know how it went!!
What is my wife thinking dragging me into this? She kept bugging me multiple times and even cried cuz she "needed" me to do the class with her. It's 2 freaking hours a week for 12 weeks talking about keeping a budget and how that's spiritual.
She and I already extremely savvy at budgeting. This class is so simple for us that I'm literally posting this while in the class cuz I have nothing else to do.
I'd like to thank you, brothers and sisters, for attending this rant.

Friendly Neighborhood Raiders began as a place for older Tarkov players to congregate, group up and help each other succeed. We only recruit players that are 25+ years old. Community leaders have found that as we get older, we prefer to game with people in our own age group. We prioritize clear communication and a focused, mature raiding environment over trolling teammates and being silly.
We are able to distinguish between when it's time to joke with each other and when to cut the chit-chat and laser focus on the raid. Our groups have been known to get caught up in what theyβre doing for several hours if not interrupted. We promote a relaxing and fun environment and encourage our community members to run raids together while getting to know each other. We have a Sherpa program which allows you to request a Sherpa to assist you with tasks, map and game knowledge, and loot runs, with a bot that shows how many Sherpas are online and available. We usually have a few groups raiding every night of the week, on top of a group or two throughout the day. It's very important to know that once you join us, it's on you to join a voice channel with players in it and ask to raid with them - if you are shy and don't take the first step, you aren't going to find anyone to raid with.
You'll notice there's been no Discord invite link posted yet, and that's because we want new members to be a great fit and agree to our community rules. If you are interested in checking us out please send me a private message and tell me a little bit about yourself, e.g. your age, what you are looking for, what type of attitude you bring to the game, and what experience you have. You aren't just a face to us, we want you to be part of something and not solely exist on the server to play the game. We also have a website which lists our rules, some player resources and a guide on raiding etiquette, as well as an application form for the server. If you'd like to check it out, you can see it at https://fnreft.xyz/. Together, we can tame the beast that is Escape From Tarkov and ensure success. ... keep reading on reddit β‘The goal of self-reliance is to achieve sovereignty in our connected, civilized world. Itβs to remember that your judgments are valid β even if, especially if, theyβre unpopular. Itβs remembering you donβt need to be on a side, that the team colors people try to throw on you may not actually represent who you are.
Thereβs no magic bullet for self-reliance. Thereβs no step-by-step system to achieve it. There are, however, some practices that will help us move towards it. I, along with countless others, have found journaling to be a particularly effective one.
Below youβll find 31 journaling prompts designed to help nudge you toward self-reliance. Theyβll help you think about and articulate pieces of yourself you might not have considered before β at least not explicitly. Theyβll help you recognize your beliefs and find areas where youβre not sure what you believe. Theyβll help you think about situations youβre in and decisions youβre making and what to do about them. In general, theyβll just help you look in the right direction.
The aim is to help you go deeper into yourself so that you might better reset your relationships to yourself, the world, and the people you spend time with.
Iβd recommend writing on each prompt for at least twenty minutes. Itβs likely that these will serve as jumping-off points and youβll end your writing session on a completely different topic having followed your ideas on an open-ended β and self-reliant β course.
You can start working on these prompts at any time, and do as many a day as youβd like (though I donβt recommend tackling more than two a day, to make sure you give each sufficient space and time for reflection). However, the number of prompts β 31 β makes them particularly suitable for tackling one a day as part of a month-long exercise. Commit to making the 31 days ahead the month where you finally begin to live a life in which you make decisions with primary respect to your own experience of the world. When you finally begin to pay less attention to the opinions of others, and start really being true to yourself. When you finally start trusting yourself.

What is something you have or are pursuing, that other people say is worthwhile, but you havenβt found valuable? Do you continue to pursue it based on the promises of others?

How to Survive: Self-Reliance in Extreme Circumstances ePUB eBook
When faced with near death, your survival instincts kick in. Instincts can only take you so far, however; itβs preparation and planning that can make the difference between living and dying.
As an abandoned child I grew up between social services and group homes. I didn't have any money or any connections to create any sort of advantage or opportunity. I was homeless at fourteen after not and dropped out at fifteen because I didn't want to sleep outside and attend school in front of my friends. I worked from then on to afford a 5 foot by 5 foot room where I'd spend all of my time alone. I thought to myself I need to get out of this slump and move forward somehow without any family or friends.
I started reading books as my guides, my mentors, my how-tos or whatever - and they all echo this sentiment of "unhappy, it's your fault" "unsuccessful, blame yourself" "alone, it's because you choose to be" and I'm sure these sorts of affirmations work for someone somewhere else. Maybe a nice suburban home with a kid with a little anxiety it might help, or an eat pray love single mother, or whomever else you could see taking the middle class - what about the dirt poor and destitute? What if I actually couldn't attend school because I had to work to support myself? What if I had no family to rely or lean on? What if for a time I was too depressed and suicidal to safely endure a condescending and patronizing atmosphere of people who get hot meals and watch TV everyday?
I just find the self help, the business, the psychology books all so narrow minded and specific to a specific class of person and do no good for people who were born into a shitheap of a life and they do nothing but shame you and blame you for misfortunes that aren't necessarily your responsibility or doing.
My cousin is 36 and still lives with his parents, they're from money, he's never had a job, he's never done anything of note. They blacklisted me from their family because my father was poor and my mother wasn't the right race. They condescend to me, why don't I get my shit together when they were all born into immeasurable wealth. That's what I feel like when I read self help books - it's just rich people (with happiness/success) dunking on poor people (the unhappy/unfortunate) without ever offering up any sort of real help because it comes from a place of "it's easy".
Now it may be honest advice, the whole "it's easy" thing, because it was - for them. Until I see a self help book that's for people pulling branches off trees to use as a blanket I don't want any of these self reliance everything's your fault "gurus" to write another of the same damn book from their luxury houses.
