Question for/about the Scottish Jewish community.
What would be the best way to research whether one has Jewish ancestry?
It may sound like an odd question, but I'm asking because when I'm out and about, I keep being mistaken for being Jewish (it has happened now on half a dozen occasions, across 3 continents). I am beginning to wonder whether there is something about me which people are picking up on, consciously or unconsciously, and I'm curious to find out more.
I've built a family tree going back a good few generations, so I've mainly just got names and dates without much additional info about the people themselves.
Any advice would be appreciated!

A rambling Jewish Perspective on the new Scottish Government
The Scottish Jewish community is not an insignificant one, but it is a community in Scotland that gets very little attention. Scottish Jews are relatively few in number compared to their southern neighbours, but with a Jewish population of about 10,000 Scotland hosts the 26th largest Jewish community in the world (and remember there are about 200 countries, so that is fairly high).
There is very little coverage on Scottish Jewry in the media, and very little analysis on how major political events in Scotland will affect the community. This is partially because Scottish politicians of all political stripes do not usually talk about Jewish issues or about how their policies will impact Scottish Jews. The new Scottish First Minister has so far not departed from this tradition. This is not meant to be a criticism of the First Minister (no communities of similar sizes receive such treatment from politicians), but it is something that we in the United Kingdom’s leading Jewish publication have picked up on.
It is important to note that the Scottish Jewish Community has finally gotten one of our own into a very high government position. The new Deputy First Minister, Mr. ChainChomsky, is Jewish. Mr. Chompsky is perhaps the most successful Jewish politician Scotland has ever seen, and we at the Model Jewish Worker sincerely hope that his success will eventually lead to a Jew taking on the role of Scottish First Minister.
Despite not mentioning Jews in their speech today, new First Minister Scubaguy194 did list some policies that will have important ramifications for Scotland’s Jewish community. The First Minister touched on the importance of education. Like many Scots, many Scottish Jews have been looking abroad for economic opportunities - leading to a decline in the Jewish population. Investments in Scottish Education will have a positive effect on the Scottish economy, and will enable many Jews to stay in the land they love. I am sure many Jewish families will appreciate the toolkit all students will receive, including a laptop.
The First Minister also mentioned priorities on language. It is a shame that no mention of Scots-Yiddish was made, but promises to reverse the Conservative Party’s war on Gaelic should be warmly welcomed in the Jewish Community. Jewish languages like Hebrew, Ladino, and Yiddish have fascinating histories in Scotland, and policies regarding minority languages like Scottish Gaelic may help boost these struggling Jewish tongues in S

Wasn't really surprised by the British and Irish as my dad told me his family is Scottish. The Scandinavian came as no surprise as my grandfather moved from Denmark to Canada. But Ashkenazi Jewish and Italian took me by surprise. Also my hair in the second picture is darker than normal as I dyed it.
