Scott Frost Puns

Seems like the Scott Frost Narrative has become:

"Why is what was such a slam dunk hire not working out?"

When it should be: "Was Frost actually a slam dunk hire?"

Obviously he's a native son, former player, and he had an undefeated season in 2017 but that was his second year as a HC so we aren't talking about a huge sample size. He went 6-7 the year before at UCF.

Outside of 2017, he's lost at least 5 games every year (and that was the Covid-shortened 2020 season where they would've lost more). His overall record is .500 with the 13-0 season and .382 without it.

Seems to me like maybe he's not *that great* of a coach and everyone was too quick to jump the gun after that one, admittedly, great season and perhaps he's regressed to his mean.

Not hatin' Husker Fans, just wonder why the national media is still scratching their head about why this isn't working when it seems clear to me that he's kind of a middling HC.

1620 is discussing this right now. I strongly feel Frost completely failed Adrian. I strongly feel Adrian would have had much more success with a myriad of different circumstances. I'm indifferent on him transferring.

I think Frost failed him in multiple areas. Play calling is definitely one of them, scheme those hints at option were something that should have been implemented day one.

But the biggest and the most inexcusable was giving him a center who had never played that position before and took 3 full years to properly snap a ball. Now I will admit Cam played lights out this year, but that's where he should have been year 2. Any other center who played in highschool could have came in and beat Cam out.

The other is not identifying and correcting our offensive line. Still 4 years later. Our oline still kills us. The inconsistent ability to block. And this year Frost finally changes the starters and it worked and then the repla goes down with injury. It shouldn't take a head coach 4 years to identify a problem that everyone else sees right away. ahem special teams, not related to Adrian

In response to a comment on one of my other photo posts. I shot this photo of Scott Frost from the very end of his sideline. As close as you can get as a photographer without crossing the NCAA barrier. It was completely innocent, but this was late in the game when they were clearly in over their head. He just stared at me. It seemed like 5 minutes, but was probably like 3 seconds lol. He certainly doesn't even remember this, but boy was he upset. This was the infamous "We out hit them" game.

From the article... Nebraska’s football program and coach Scott Frost are under NCAA investigation for improper use of analysts and consultants during practices and games, sources told The Action Network.

The school, sources said, has “significant video footage” confirming the practice violations took place in the presence of Frost and other assistants.

Frost has obtained legal counsel, and the NCAA has interviewed Frost, multiple current and former staff members, administration and football players regarding the allegations, sources said. The allegations date back 12 months.

Also, last year — when the NCAA prohibited organized athletic activities because of the pandemic — Nebraska relocated its strength workouts to an undisclosed off-campus location to avoid detection by non-football school officials, sources said.

Here are some names that are getting vetted as part of Trev's list. His list will change some over the next couple of weeks so this isn't 100% set in stone. Some of the names are Dan Lanning the UGA DC, Matt Campbell, Jeff Monken, Dave Aranda. Others will be Wake Forest head coach, NC State head coach, and others.

I have seen some repeated consternation around the fact that LSU and USC will be/are doing coaching searches this year and how that may factor into us firing or not firing Scott Frost. There seems be a fear with two of these other schools also having open positions. But what people need to remember is that there are other big jobs open every single year. So let's look at some history of the Power 5 openings each year:

In the table, you will see all of the Power 5 job openings by year and by conference. The schools in bold can be roughly considered equivalent or better than Nebraska in the coach search market based on my own nebulous view of conference, recent history, access to recruits and money behind the program. The ones who we would realistically be competing with in a job search. Those can obviously be debated.

Looking at the normal year, there are an average of 10 Power 5 jobs that come open with with 4 of them being in that "roughly equivalent or better than Nebraska" camp. This year, LSU and USC have already fired their coaches and will be/are in c

I thought the key to yesterday's news was hearing how Scott Frost was going to be taking on a more CEO-type role. It's been abundantly clear that Frost's extreme involvement in the offense (especially play-calling) has detracted from other key areas of focus that are required by a coach. My hope is that we will see better clock management, situational awareness, and player development (especially a decrease in simple penalties).

The biggest question is what kind of OC are we going to bring in. I personally am fond of the heavy run and having a mobile QB. We clearly need to decrease the amount of QB run though as Adrian has been hurt every year he's been here.

This is a key point in our program. It reminds me a lot of Notre Dame's Brian Kelly overhauling his coaching style after their 4-8 season to become more CEOesque. Let us hope we follow their success.

Maybe I’m just reading too far into things, but certainly seems like if the President of the system is now talking about Frost’s future, he might not have much of one left. Obviously he says no decision has been made, but it seems like an odd thing to say if the university intended on having him back next year. If that’s was the case, why not something along the lines of “Scott frost has the university’s full support” instead of saying they’ll address his future at another time.

This movie exemplifies my favourite era and style of filmmaking. It's an understated masterpiece and has remained in my top 5 since my first viewing.

Borrowing from executive producer Neil LaBute's biting, critical writing sensibilities, as well as the humble authenticity of the best mumblecore and other dark indie dramedies of the ~2005-2015 era, this movie just hits all the right notes for me. It's hilarious, sad, dark, genuine, and profound all at the same time.

Adam Scott's performance is unbelievably good. I'm a fan of his generally but this is by far his best work. It's up there with Ryan Gosling in Blue Valentine and Lars and the Real Girl for me, when it comes to this era of film. He's almost unrecognizable and I wish he would do more things like this.

Some critics and IMDB reviewers criticized the film for being misogynistic, but they completely missed the point as far as I'm concerned. The CHARACTERS are misogynistic, and the film does an excellent job of pointing out their hypocrisy and insecurity. It tells us misogyny is WRONG, not cool. And the lead actress (Brittany Snow, also terrific) is written and performed as a complex, fully realized character - despite moments of intentionally alluding to the manic pixie dream girl trope.

The cinematography and music (score by Radical Face) are outstanding as well. Being set (and actually filmed) in the middle of winter brings a rare authenticity. You can tell the actors are freezing cold in several scenes.

As someone with a very troubled childhood and family life, the dysfunction on display here resounds very well with me. Combined with everything I mentioned above... yeah this is just the perfect film for me. It may not be for everyone, but I strongly suggest giving it a shot!
