I'm trying to compile a list of SF and fantasy film festivals and contests. If you have a favorite, I'd love to hear about it. I already know about the one sponsored by the EMP in Seattle. (http://www.empmuseum.org/programs-plus-education/programs/science-fiction-plus-fantasy-short-film-festival/science-fiction-plus-fantasy-short-film-festival.aspx) But I'd love to hear about others, please. And if there's a better reddit for asking this, please do point me there.
The Etheria Film Festival will be October 5th at the Somerville Theater. It features exclusively science fiction and fantasy films made by women.
Last year had excellent films, and was really fun.
I am one of the hosts of this year's fest. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have
Hi,
I'm a massive sci fi film fan and so is my friend. For the past 3 years we've been producing a sci fi movie discussion podcast. We've now set up a film festival that will play at MANPAC next year. Entries are now open and to celebrate that and to show our local minister for culture and arts we love movies and want more support for filmmakers we are having a launch party.
The Sci Fi Film Festival Launch party will have food, music, live performances, prizes for best sci fi costume (if you want to come in cosplay), networking with local filmmakers and we'll have a film crew filming enactments of famous sci fi scenes.
It is going to be a fantastic night. If we can get enough people there we can get the attention of the local council and David Templeman (Mandurah state mp and minister for culture and arts). We want more local production, more support for local artists and creatives.
When:
28th October from 7pm
The Platinum Room at Rushton Park (Peel Thunder stadium)
Tickets (because we can't convince the government to give us a grant despite their "restart the arts" scheme): $20 at
spacebrainslaunch.eventbrite.com.au

Been looking for some inspiration to write sci-fi, and would love to check out some good films, or short-films. Could be Indie, or Mainstream. I would prefer Indie more. You know, something that's pretty hard sf, and intellectually stimulating, even though they're made on a low budget.
Edit: Please suggest Malayalam ones, since I'm not in touch with the Malayalam SF scene.
so Probably In 2016 Or 2017 Or 2018 Or 2019 Or Whenever I Dont Remember But that was the time i watched a science fiction short film i watched on youtube... details below..
it had a man running out / escaping from some guys who want to catch him and the commander or whatever says on radio.. "dont let him get inside.."
the soilders ask "dont let him inside where.."
commander: " inside anywhere"
then the escaping person runs away and gets inside a room near the road and does something and does something due to which the empty space moves and the soilders get confused? or somethign and cant catch him and he escapes...
..
if i remember correctly, may be there was also a (begger/poor? ) girl sitting on the roadside near a trash can and she asks the man.. "you want my help or not.." and thius she hepls him hide or something.....and then later when the short film ends the escaping man helps the girl escape from some chasers and he asks her as well "you want my help or not"..
though i am not suer if this latter girl incident is from the same short film or not.. it may be from a different short film... in that case can you please kindly help me find it.??
i have been looking for it from atleast a week.. but i cant find it on youtube. i dont knwo what to do.. thank you.
