Sandin is a guy that I think benefited from playing on a powerhouse Sault Ste. Marie team this year. His offensive numbers were solid this year, but I didn't see any spectacular play that made me think he was a can't miss sort of prospect. He is a solid skater, with above average vision, so it's not as though he is lacking in overall talent, he just doesn't do anything that controls the play or seems to be a go to option when he is on the ice. His wrist shot isn't very good, it comes off his stick weakly and doesn't show an NHL level of accuracy. His slapshot isn't bad though, so it covers up his lacking wrist shot. He played with Jordan Sambrook (Detroit's pick from a few years ago that they aren't signing) so any decision that Detroit makes on Sandin will be well thought out and well scouted. Sandin on a whole is a bit on the smaller size, but I am not opposed to taking smaller guys if their talent makes it worthwhile. I don't think Sandin does, and I don't think he is better than some of the other guys that should be available towards the end of the first round.
Sorry about the delay on some of these guys, life things have been happening and getting in the way a bit. I'll try to keep on top of it though!
I don't think I have to tell anyone, but for those who may not know this series is of particular interest to the Oilers as it's Connor McDavid's Otters vs. Darnell Nurse's Sault Ste. Marie. Both of our prospects are captains on their respective teams and are likely to be matched up more often than not. Should be a damn good series and fun to watch.
If anyone knows where you can watch the game, info would be appreciated! I think I read that hockeystreams may have streams for the game, and livetv.sx may have have them as well.
Edit: Like /u/YouJagaloon said, (and confirmed by Jason Gregor via Oilersnation), the first two games are available online while games 3, 4 and 5 will be on SN 360.
Sault wins the game 4-3 and win the series in 7!
The Greyhounds move on and will play the Erie Otters next round
I'm looking for a Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds jersey size 54 or 56 authentic 2010/2011 - 2013/2014. Does anyone have one they want to get rid of?
I'm possibly going to be taking a job in Northern Wisconsin this summer, where (depending on border restrictions obviously) either city would be about equidistant and within driving range for a weekend visit.
Just from google maps Sault Ste. Marie looks like the more obvious "touristy" town. Thunder Bay looks like a pretty industrial place rather than a tourist destination, but maybe the satellite image is misleading and I'd be missing out on something good.
I like hiking and canoing but not really any of the more high adventure stuff, and seeing historic sites.
