Sam Houston National Forest Puns

I went on a great gravel ride in Sam Houston national forest last week - well worth the effort to get out there and give it a rip. Ride with GPS posted below. If you take this route, add a visit to niederhofer lake by taking FS 269.

You can park at four notch hunter camp to start the ride. Plenty of parking available and easy to find on google maps.

My friend is going from Dallas to Houston and loves to see the forest. Do you have a suggestion on what is the best way to enjoy a one hour time there? Any specific entrance or so?

As the weather's been getting much nicer, I was thinking of going to Sam Houston National Forest for a hike over the weekend. If you've been there before, any tips or trails you'd recommend? Is anything closed due to COVID? Thanks!

I can't really find a clear answer as to where exactly are hunting areas, and if I should just wear orange anyway? Not a hunter and don't own any orange

As September ends and the weather cools, many of us are starting to spend a bit more time outside. This also means the beginning of certain hunting seasons in the places we love to visit.

For the Lone Star Hiking Trail, we have September 26-January 8th. Meaning, camping can only be done in campgrounds, and designated hunter and camping sites. It would be safest to hike in orange gear, like a vest or hat.

For Arkansas and the Ouachita National Forest, you can find a comprehensive list of what is legal to hunt and when here. The Arkansas Hunting Guidebook can be found here, with more in depth rules and regulations. It can get kinda complicated when trying to figure out what is being hunted and at what time, but in general, from now through the end of February, I'd wear wear orange gear for my own protection.

My wife and I want to go hiking at Sam Houston National Forest this weekend. Their site says their office is only open Monday–Friday, but it says nothing about when the park itself is open. I tried calling, but I only got to a recorded message that didn’t provide an answer.

I’m assuming it must be open on weekends, but since it’s an hour out of town I wanted to be sure before we drive all the way out there.
