I was watching some clips of when the show was good, and I LOVED Sakina Jaffrey's performance as Linda Vasquez. Back in the first season, that really felt how the CoS and congress would act. Jaffrey played a nice juxtaposition of 'ruthless but relatable' that a lot of shows can't with their cheif of staff characters.
But it's weird that she's played as a Latina, when she's very clearly of Indian heritage.
I don't think it's so much that Jaffrey couldn't play a character named Vasquez, and it's not really an 'acting' thing. But in the new years ball scene, we are introduced to Linda Vasquez, and it's very clearly made out to point out her being a Latina. Not just 'Vasquez' but in his whole run down of her, Frank says "she's a woman, check, and a Latina, check...." when she's clearly not a Latina.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

If you care about representation for south asians in mainstream media then I highly recommend watching "The problem with Apu". If you heard about the apu controversy a couple of years ago you might be under the impression Hari kondabolu was trying to get Apu. However this is not actually true. Hari has stated multiple times that he wants Apu to leave the Simpsons but to just add more complexity to the character.

The misunderstanding about what the movie is about mostly stems from nobody actually watching it but still strawmaning the hell out of his arguments. As hari has said himself, the people who watched the movie generally like and the people who didn't hate it.
The movie does talk a lot about Apu, but only because for a long time he was the only representation that indians/south-asians had in mainstream media. Apu is used to start a larger conversation about representation in media. The documentary feature interviews with a lot of south asian celeberties such as Aziz Ansari, Kal Penn, russell peters, aasif mandvi, hasan minhaj, Sakina Jaffrey.
I still like both the Simpsons and Apu and I still think the documentary did a great job discussing representation. I think a lot of you guys would enjoy this movie. It's pretty lighthearted. If you were to actually watch the movie I think you would realize the backlash the movie received was way overblown. Hari even said he received death threats from fans of the Simpsons.
