It was last heard that filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali had displayed significant interest in making the biopic with actors Abhishek Bachchan or Irrfan in the lead. But nobody knows if those discussions ever took place. It now is being reported that Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment wants to make the pending biopic.

For those who might not know, Jasmeet Reen, writer-director of the film on Ludhianvi's life, has desperately struggled for this project to take off. Before Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ashi Dua was supposed to produce it. Several actors such as Farhan Akhtar, Irrfan Khan, and Abhishek Bachchan were supposed to play Ludhianvi. Even female actors such as Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor, and Taapsee Pannu were in the running to be cast for the role of Amrita Pritam as she had a strong attachment with the poet.

While it is still not confirmed if Shah Rukh Khan will play the role of the poet himself or simply produce the biopic, he does seem to be the ideal fit for the role. Nothing sounds more dreamy than King Khan writing and reciting poems.

While Abhishek Bachchan has been locked in to play the eponymous role of Ludhianvi, Deepika, is it being said by sources in the know, is a “very strong possibility for the role of Amrita Pritam”. Says the source, “Sanjay Leela Bhansali wants to work again with Deepika as soon as possible. Though she is not a part of his next directorial (Inshallah) he has offered her the prized role of Amrita Pritam which Deepika is seriously considering.”

Apparently her only precondition is that the bio-pic be named after both the protagonistsinstead of just Sahir Ludhianvi and Bhansali is “quite okay” with that.
