If the White Sox had originally purchased Babe Ruth instead of the Red Sox, would he have participated in the Black Sox Scandal?
Obviously, this is purely speculative.
That said, Jack Dunn, owner of the minor-league Baltimore Orioles, offered Ruth and others to the White Sox, and Charlie Comiskey turned him down due to the perception of the price as too high. Itβs not a stretch to imagine Babe Ruth having been with the White Sox in an alternate universe.
The Aβs had a chance to sign him as well and Connie Mack refused for similar reasons. That said, the Aβs donβt have a Black Sox Scandal.
