A list of puns related to "Russian Battleship Imperator Aleksandr Iii"
Well, the time has come for a new project. This time, I will be doing a full Russian/Soviet BB line starting from Tier III and going all the way up to Tier X.
#Introduction/History
Russian/Soviet capital ship development has a bit of a... rather interesting history.
Imperial Russia had been building pre-dreadnought battleships for some time, even a bit longer than other nations. The last Russian pre-dreadnought class was the pair Andrey Pervozvannyy battleships, laid down in 1905 and completed in 1912. The first Russian dreadnought was the famous Gangut-class, but those were laid down in 1909 and not completed until 1914. Of the four Gangut battleships, 3 of them would live to see World War II under the flag of the Soviet Union, and 2 (3?) of them survived the war (Marat/Petropavlosk was basically written off in 1941 after being bombed and no longer able to move, acting as "non-self-propelled floating battery" before being classified as a training hulk in 1950). Following the Gangut type was the Imperatritsa Mariya-class, completed in 1915 but none of them made it past 1920. The next ship was the (infamous) Imperator Nikolai I (laid down 1914), but she was deemed not needed and cancelled, later destroyed by the Allies in 1919 to make sure she couldn't be completed by the Soviets.
There was also the Izmail battlecruisers, but they never got completed and while there were a multitude of ideas surrounding what to do with them, the Soviets ended up just selling them for scrap.
It was not until 1938 the next capital ships would be laid down, in form of the Project 23 battleships, otherwise known as Sovetskiy Soyuz.
My line specifically is quite a bit different than some of the other proposals I have seen. It is possible that people will not like what I include (or exclude) and the ships I place at specific tiers.
And as some of you may pick up from this post, I will be making the distinction between Imperial Russia and the Soviet Union.
#Note on Soviet Nomenclature/Designations and Transliteration/Translation
Anyone who has looked into Soviet naval construction programs has figured out that they label ships with a Project number. I will, invariably, switch between the given Project number and the ship/class name (if applicable), but this may end up being a bit confusing. The Project designation matters quite a bit, with some Project designations having modifiers added to them to denote further iterations/improvements. To mak
