A list of puns related to "Romantic Dessert"
Visiting family here in Vancouver. It will be our wedding anniversary while on this trip but because wife wants to spend as much time as possible with family, I can only do dessert as โalone timeโ. Any dessert places you guys can recommend that would fit the occasion? This is on a weekend.
Hi all, I'd really like to do something special with my boyfriend and he really loves dessert (obviously, who doesn't?). I want it to be something big that he and I can share! Anyway, I was hoping my fellow Redditors can tell me good options (preferably in MK, but not a necessity) to choose from. I've never been to WDW, only DL, and I know at DL that the best places for dessert and good snacks aren't necessarily found at the most stereotypical places (though they totally can be).
My girlfriends birthday is in 3 days and I want to make her a dessert for the two of us. I'm wondering what kind of recipe I can use that's beginner friendly? I'm not skilled in cooking but I still want to impress her.
Also, it should preferably be chocolate themed. Only because I already bought a lot of chocolate and she adores milk chocolate :)
I probably have to stay for the rest of my life on a treadmill. Every time I decide โok this is enough, no more sweets no more dessertsโ , then I find a recipe that is calling me to make and after making it, calling me to eat :). But this time I outsmarted the recipe and took one or two then wrapped them all and gave to hubby to get them on a trip out of the house and into his work to get feedback and to share the calories and IT WAS HARD LETTING THEM GO :).
Iโve got a very encouraging feedback although one of my favorite critics was not there and those babes were gone in a jiffy. Deblah in Arabic is the ring or precisely the engagement ring, although I do not see any rings here I can see them as cute little flowers. This type of dessert is very common in Libya and Tunisia and served in the holly month of Ramadan and I can serve them year round with no problem at all :).
They require a little work specially if you do not have a pasta machine, but the result sure worth it. They are crunchy, sweet, bite sized and very appealing to the eye and mouth.
You will need:
1 Egg white.
2 c all purpose flour.
2 Tbs soft unsalted butter.
1/4 tsp of active dry yeast.
1/4 tsp of baking powder.
2/3 c of rose water or tap water.
a dash of vanilla.
Oil for frying.
Sesame seeds for garnishing โ optional.
For the simple syrup- we will need a thick one:
2 c of granulated white sugar.
1 c of water.
1 tsp of lemon juice.
1/8 tsp of liquid vanilla or a dash of the powdered one.
Mix the flour, B.P. and yeast together in the mixing bowl. Add the butter in little chunks and mix well.
Mix the egg white and the vanilla together then add to the flour mixture, mix well. Then start adding the water little by little until you get a firm soft but not sticky dough. Wrap and refrigerate for a minimum of 30 min.
Divide the dough into 6 equal sized balls and dust lightly with a little corn starch or flour. Flatten each ball in the pasta machine from the thickest slot until you reach the thinnest one โ you can use your rolling pin, it will be a little harder but doable.
Cut each one into 4 long strips. Heat the oil for frying and start by rolling each strip around a fork in the oil until you finish โ see video for a detailed description.
Fry until they are golden brown then dunk in the syrup, sprinkle with some sesame seeds or any nuts or leave plain.
Serve those cut flowers with hot coffee or tea. Bon Appรฉtit. Full printable recip

So my girlfriend is currently out of town for school, and while she's gone I want to learn to make...things. Food other than eggs/hash browns/chili/steak/veggie stir fry, really. Right now I'm letting a sweet and sour pork marinade, and will be making that tonight. But it's not exactly something I want to make every day of the week.
I've done some searches for romantic dinners, and romantic desserts (in this sub)- most people say stick to what you know. I don't know a whole lot. I'd like to be able to make her dinners and pack her lunch. Right now she does all the cooking. And while that's great, I feel kinda bad. Plus, it's always nice to surprise her with things. Especially a meal+drinks when she gets home from work (she works later than me).
So.
if you had to suggest beginner meals that are easy to modify, a dinner or two to learn for romantic evenings, and a dessert, what would it be? I really want to try making pumpkin vanilla pancakes, and have some practice at baking fish. Google is helpful, but overwhelming. And asking my girlfriend defeats the purpose of the surprise! Any suggestions?
I know Berns is highly sought after, but I didnโt think ahead and plan this reservation months ago. Donโt mind spending some $$$ but Iโd love to have an intimate romantic dinner somewhere.
Moved from Philadelphia where our regular anniversary dinner spot was an olddd old old building where weโd eat amazing Italian food in a gorgeous wine cellar .
Any recommendations help!
"Well, I was thinking maybe a um, a romantic dinner with um, candles and wine and then uh, maybe going back to my place for um, dessert."
When I first heard this line I thought "why don't they just order dessert at the restaurant?! Seems weird to go back home for it?!!"
Who else, when they first watched some episodes, was young and innocent and didn't quite understand everything?
A common piece of advice for the HL partner in a dead bedroom is to, "Stop initiating already!" It is excellent advice and some of the more frequent, more eloquent contributors on this sub have put a lot of effort into explaining why this is a good idea--bad sex leads to aversions, initiation is a kind of pressure, desire can't be forced, etc.
And yet, so many HL's still don't seem to understand how important it is to stop initiating. Which I honestly get, as it seems so counter intuitive. How can not addressing the problem possibly fix the problem? If we don't talk about the problem and work on the problem then how can it get better? So I wrote this wacky analogy to explain it that was so fun to write I had to share it...
You and your partner are big fans of sharing a banana split. Your first date as awkward teenagers was at the local ice cream shop and it's been a tradition ever since to hit the place up every Friday if possible, but every other week worse case scenario. Those ice cream shop dates are really important to you because they remind you of how much fun it was to be young and in love for the first time, they're a reminder of your commitment to one another, it's fun and connective and romantic. And who doesn't love a banana split? It's an awesome dessert, and it's fun to share the dessert together. You spoon feed each other and then get to laugh when someone ends up with whipper cream on their face. You get to playfully fight over the cherry.
Then one week, something happens--you're overwhelmed with your to-do list, your depression/anxiety is being particularly sensitive for some reason, you are on a new medication that affects your appetite and can make you nauseous, or any number of other stressors come up. Maybe you just don't feel like a banana split this week. But as per usual each Friday night, your partner comes up to you all excited and ready to go to the ice cream shop. They've got your coat ready to go, they've dressed up for the occasion, and they bought you flowers.
"I'm so sorry," you say. "I'm just not up for it this week. Maybe next week?"
"Oh, okay..."
Your partner is visibly disappointed, but they understand. Sometimes you skip a week, but you always make sure to go to the ice cream shop every other week, worst case scenario. Your partner puts your flowers in a vase and you stay in for the night. The two of you order a pizza, put on your favorite TV show, and binge it. It's not the ice cream

Aye- plot twist her best friend is flying in and meeting up, I have no issue with the 3rd wheel going to dinner or such.

The first act, with them in the carnival, is about 10-20 minutes too long, the character progression of Stan, Bradley Cooper's character, from a somewhat empathetic, naive individual to a scuzzy con artist feels rushed, and there are plot threads that are barely resolved (like the thing with the guy in the cage or Stan having romantic relationships with both Madame Xena (while considering her husband his mentor) and Rooney Mara's character)
There are some good things there, the production design and cinematography, the guy with dwarfism is mostly just treated like an equal by the other characters and the movie itself (there's no "LOL he's so short, let's laugh at the shorty" jokes, which is nice), Willem Dafoe's performance, and the lengths the movie goes to show how they're conning people, but for the most part I just couldn't get into the carnival scenes
However, once they leave the carnival, and it becomes about Stan scheming common people and rich people into thinking he's a legit mentalist, and him getting his just desserts for that, it becomes a much more interesting and well written movie, with a fantastic performance by Cate Blanchett to boot
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Again not the original poster, this is continued from my previous post. To fit into two posts I had to cut the second update in two. Now back to the story!
Trigger Warning: Child Abuse
For a second I couldnโt believe it, I sort of just froze and stared at his name as though it would morph into something else, but it didnโt. The letters stayed exactly as they were and I dragged the cursor over the โacceptโ button, hovering in thought for no more than a couple of seconds before I rapidly clicked on it.
I accepted the friend request, and dove into his profile.
The comments on his wall, the apps, the people in his friends list, and eventually, the photos, too. I spent a good three hours creeping his profile, to the point that it was dark outside when I finally stopped. I came to realize he went to the same school as Deanโs little brother. The one in the next city over. They were apparently on the debate team together, and โฆ from what I had gathered in my innocent snooping โฆ Nicky had seen one of the funny comments I had left on one of Deanโs brotherโs pictures, recognized my name, and added me.
It was a silly picture. Something from Halloween if I remember correctly.
I remember thinking a few things while viewing the pictures in Nickyโs profile.
First, his hair was different. Slightly darker but still blond. Second, he was a lot taller. Very close to six feet if not all the way there. Third, he was the spitting image of his father.
I felt a lump in my throat, one that didnโt really go away until my mother called me down to have dinner.
Within an instant my parents could tell something was up. They didnโt ask, they just knew. Still, I tried my best to act normal and stuff my face the way I usually did. Once dinner was done, I took our empty dishes to the sink and washed them by hand, the way I did every evening. The whole time I was thinking about Nicky, the way he looked so happy in his pictures, and the fact that he had added me out of nowhere. Truthfully I had considered searching him up on Facebook many a time, but I had never followed through. In part, because I was afraid he wouldnโt remember me โฆ and in part, because he had very clearly severed ties with me before moving. I had no idea if he even wanted to hear from me. The fact that he had added me, however, had put an end to those worries.
I went upstairs after, slipping into my bedroom with the lights off, and plopped down on my desk chair.
This time there was a message from h
... keep reading on reddit โกWith Valentine's Day coming up, I figured we'd start seeing lots of questions and ideas for Valentine's Day, so I took some time to start a list of thoughts/ideas regarding zero/low-waste Valentine's Day ideas. Would love to hear any other ideas/suggestions! I'm not saying these are all perfect suggestions, just things that come to mind, and I hope they're somewhat helpful. I personally happen to LOVE holidays and love celebrating them, so I love thinking of festive ways to do that, but I do believe we can still do it in a sustainable way and I've tried to think of different ways to do that here! Any other thoughts/ideas welcome!
1. Homemade Body or Bath Products
Things like shea butter, cocoa butter, vitamin e oil, etc. can all make luxurious body products and can be fun to make, and you can often buy the ingredients in bulk! Now might be a super fun time to make some whipped body butter just for fun, or your own soap โ thereโs a lot you can do with some bulk items and dried flowers, for example, and itโs so much fun to make things together!
You can use coffee grounds, honey, cinnamon, lemon juice, vitamin e oil, and coconut oil for a super great body scrub.
Sugar, coconut oil, vitamin e oil, and lemon juice makes a great lip scrub!
For baths, one of my favorite things to do is mix Epsom salts, dried powdered milk, and essential oils (2-3c Epsom salts, ยผc powdered milk, maybe 5-10 drops of essential oils that are safe for the skin like lavender or chamomile). The powdered milk acts as an emulsifier and mixes the EOs in with the water and the Epsom salts! Pour in the mixture before you start the water, let it dissolve, and you have the worldโs most luxurious bath. It makes a great gift!
The best part is you can reuse old glass jars or other containers you already have for these, too.
2. Homemade Candles
You can buy beeswax or soy wax in bulk, and make homemade candles using glass jars you already have! Itโs always good to have candles on hand for power outages, so theyโre generally useful, but they can also just be romantic and beautiful. You could add essential oils, tea, or other things for scents if you wanted, and spend some time making candles together! Light them and enjoy a nice meal with your new candles, and keep them on hand for the future, too.
3. Make a home-cooked meal and dessert
IMO, one of the best ways to spend holidays is simply together. Iโm a sucker for holidays, and I love the festivity of them. Bu

I'm taking my wife to an event for her birthday at the Carnegie of Homestead Music Hall and wanted to do dinner beforehand someplace cool and/or unique nearby, with delicious food and cocktails. Does anyone have recommendations for the Homestead/Munhall neighborhood? Foodwise we aren't super picky, but if the restaurant has menu items beyond pizza and fried food, that's a huge plus (eating way too much of that lately). Looking for $$-$$$ places. Thanks!
She looked just like my mother.
That's what I thought when I saw her crouching in the gutter, vomiting God-knows-what into the road. The streetlights illuminated a gaunt figure with stringy blonde hair, pale skin and a huge patchwork cardigan. My mother had been a kindergarten teacher before cancer took her. She always wore bright, soft clothing like that, even on her days off.
I donโt usually approach homeless people. Maybe that makes me a bad person, but you hear all these scams about people begging then getting into a brand-new Mercedes when the night falls. Or wasting their money on booze and drugs. My mother would never have done any of those things. I think thatโs why I approached her.
โMaโam? Are you okay?โ was the most stupid question I couldโve asked, but I went with it anyway. Up close, she looked a bit less like my mother. Her green eyes were darker, and she had a thin, pale scar stretching from the top of her eyebrow to the beginnings of her hairline.
โDo I look okay to you?โ is something my mother would definitely have said back. My face reddened. The woman - not my mother, I tried to remember - wiped her mouth on her sleeve, as though I wasnโt there.
โWell, should I take you to see a doctorโฆ?โ Up close, she looked about as exhausted and miserable as any person I have ever seen. The bags under her eyes were heavy and dark. When she belched, I saw a couple of teeth were missing.
โIโd rather have a roof over my head. These nights are cold, you know.โ She stopped and gave me a long once-over. I was wearing a thick fleece jacket, gloves, a scarf knitted by my best friend. My arms were laden with gifts bought for the festive season. My face turned even redder. I felt like a glutton under the gaze of this woman who Iโd only just met.
The woman stood up and stepped closer. This close, she reeked of unwashedness and a stale something I couldnโt place. But there was something else underneath. Lavender. Beneath the dirt, she had the exact same scent as my motherโs old lavender perfume.
โPoppy Poppet, have you got a place for me to stay?โ Her whisper was hoarse but kind.
Poppy Poppet. I hadnโt heard that nickname since the day my mother died.
***
I set her up in the guest room, making sure the nicest sheets were on the bed. Itโs a small room, but cosy enough with room for the odd bits and bobs the woman had brought with her. Somehow, I hadnโt noticed her bag at first. It was huge, more like Santaโs sack than anything. It contained blanke

My girlfriend and I are annual pass holders now and will probably spend some anniversaries / special occasions there.
I got her a parasol to ask her out years ago, so cute things like that are what Iโm interested in.
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
