A list of puns related to "Robert M. La Follette"
This is the forty fourth edition of my hypothetical presidential polling series. Use your alternative goggles to ponder what could have been Robert La Follette bucking the trend and scoring a major victory for progressivism in a conservative decade!
I am confused. Help is appreciated.
June 14th is the birthday of Robert βFighting Bobβ La Follette Sr. He served as the 20th governor of Wisconsin from 1901 to 1906 and then as a state senator from 1906 to 1925. He was a progressive republican who ran for president in 1924 as third party candidate and carried Wisconsin.
La Follette was a man ahead of his time and one of the best politicians Wisconsin has ever had.

both of them are upper mid west progressives who could comprimise with reed and they have links to the republican party
niether of them die before the election irl unlike olson
and unlike olson they are actulay popular and liked with in the republicans and democrats
He was the Bernie of his day, and he was actually a great senator. Did you learn about him in high school history? I certainly didn't.
Point being: Bernie is not a historically unprecedented candidate, and progressive revolutions tend to fizzle out very quickly. There were three unrelated Progressive Parties in the 20th century. Progressives are really bad at sustaining momentum. (Maybe it's because they spend so much time eating their own.)
I know how it feels and I'm glad it made the newspapers.
Has anyone taken this course?

The Original Progressive, Robert LaFollette, was one of the greatest voices for the people in modern American history. Fighting against the strangle hold the wealthy had over our government, the greed and corruption of robber barons and bosses, a senseless war in Europe, and leading the struggles for child labor laws, womens' right to vote, and social security. He ran for president in 1924 under his own Progressive Party and got 17% of the vote.
LaFollette paved the way for a long line of progressives, including Bernie Sanders. Here's what he had to say about political revolution during his campaign in 1924:

>America is not made in the making. It has today, to meet an impending crisis, menacing as any in the nationβs history. It does not call a sound to arms, but it is nonetheless a call to patriotism and to higher ideals in citizenship. The patriotic citizenship of the country must take its stand and demand of wealth that it shall conduct its business lawfully; that it shall no longer furnish the most flagrant examples of persistent violation of statutes while invoking the protection of the courts; that it shall not destroy the equality of opportunity, the right to the pursuit of happiness guaranteed by the constitution; that it shall keep its powerful hands off from legislative manipulation; that it shall not corrupt, but that it shall obey the government that guards and protects its rights. Mere passive citizenship is not enough. Men must be aggressive for what is right, if government is to be saved from those who are aggressive for what is wrong. There is work for everyone. The field is large. It is a glorious service, this service for the country. The call comes to every citizen. It is an unending struggle: to make and keep government representative. Each one should count it a patriotic duty to build at least a part of his life into the life of his countryβto do his share in the making of America according to the plan of the Fathers.
So let's get out there folks. Nearly 100 years in the making. This is our chance, we will not sit idly by. We are prepared to do our duty to defend what is right, against those who fight so aggressively for what is wrong.
