Big Finish Releases 2

Big Finish Releases 2022 (and Beyond!)

#The First Doctor Adventures

TITLE WRITERS INDIVIDUAL STORIES (If Applicable)
The First Doctor 2022 Title TBA ?? ??

Whilst we don't know the details, we know Lauren Cornelius has been recording more First Doctor Adventures. Assumably the AAISAT crew have been as well, and potentially Carole Ann Ford. And one assumes Peter Purves. Sadly, I doubt William Russell has, Jean Marsh even less so. Maureen O'Brien has possibly done recording, but it's difficult to say as she's someone who can't really travel far, and obviously pandemics makes things worse.

#The Second Doctor Adventures

TITLE WRITERS INDIVIDUAL STORIES (If Applicable)
1. Beyond the War Games Nicholas Briggs; Mark Wright; ?? ??
14. The Companion Chronicles: The Second Doctor Vol. 3 George Mann; ?? ??

After being delayed many times, with still no confirmed release date, the fact that remote recording has occurred seems that whatever issues that plagued the release have potentially been solved, and we may get news soon. Otherwise we do know there's a George Mann penned Dalek story, read by Frazer Hines, that at this point logically couldn't be anything but a Companion Chronicle.

British Mystery Authors: Booth, Buxton, Brookmyre

Over the years have read thousands of mysteries. I thought I would do capsule introductions of three authors I enjoy each day for the next few weeks. I will start with British, going alphabetically, then move to American, and then rest of the world.

Stephen Booth: Contemporary writer whose Cooper and Fry series is set in the Peak District which is mainly small towns and rural areas. Both are detective constables to start with, as opposed to the more usual Inspectors/Chief inspectors. This is a fine series, well written, fairly gritty, occasionally dark with good character development of the leads, believable police procedure and interesting crimes and detection. The first book is The Black Dog and there are nearly 20 books.

John Hilton Buxton: Wrote three series from the late 1960's to late 1980's. The Inspector Kenworthy series is conventional mysteries with Kenworthy of the Yard going out in when called to different locals. Nice solid mysteries, slightly old-fashioned. Under the name John Greenwood he wrote six Mosley mysteries, which are gentle, lightweight village mysteries featuring an old fashioned policeman laughed at by the young modern types, but whose methods are effective. I am not familiar with his Thomas Brunt series.

Christopher/Chris Brookmyre: A Scottish author of books that tend to straddle line the between mystery and thriller (and occasional Sci/Fi), who is one of my personal favorites. His earlier books written as Christopher tend to be satirical/comic, with a fair amount of violence and screwball action. The later ones, published as Chris, are still strong mystery/thrillers, but no longer have the comic/screwball elements. Investigative journalist Jack Parlabane is the lead in a good chunk of the books, but he has two shorter series, and a number of stand alones. His earlier books are great fun and the later ones continue to provide fast paced and twisty narratives. Highly recommended. His first book is Quite Ugly One Morning.

Honorable Mentions: Robert Barnard light mysteries often gently satirizing mystery tropes and Simon Brett, whose intermittently employed aging actor Charles Paris encounters a surprising amount of entertaining crime, on stage, TV, movie and commercial sets.

"Alec Baldwin: Good-bye, Public Life." A doozy of a 2014 homophobia-laden tirade by Alec after his MSNBC show was cancelled due to his...homophobic tirades. A truly despicable man. He deserves everything he's gotten. Karma's a badass lil bitch. IF ONLY he had rilly disappeared from public life!

Original article with good photos https://www.vulture.com/2014/02/alec-baldwin-good-bye-public-life.html

[ETA background on his MSNBC show getting cancelled and why this article is just him whining about how much he hates MSNBC https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/msnbc-cancels-alec-baldwin-talker-660152/]

Alec Baldwin: Good-bye, Public Life

Feb. 23, 2014 (As told to Joe Hagan.)

I flew to Hawaii recently to shoot a film, fresh on the heels of being labeled a homophobic bigot by Andrew Sullivan, Anderson Cooper, and others in the Gay Department of Justice. I wanted to speak with a gay-rights group that I had researched and admired, so I called its local Honolulu branch.

The office number turned out to be some guy’s cell phone. I left him a messageβ€”I said, β€œI’m from out of town, I’m visiting Hawaii on business, I’d like to get some information on your group.” After two or three more calls, he answered the phone. I said, β€œYeah, I’m the guy that called about your organization.” And he said, somewhat impatiently, β€œOkay, well, what did you want?” I said, β€œWell, let me put it to you this way, Nick. Your name is Nick? Nick, let me begin by asking you a question. Who would you say, by your estimation, is the most homophobic member of the entertainment industry currently in the media?” And he paused for a long count of four and said, β€œUm … Alec Baldwin?”

And I said, β€œDing, ding, ding, ding! Bingo, Nick, bingo! That’s who you’re talking to.”

He said, β€œC’mon!”

I said, β€œNick, I want to come in and talk.”

I met with Nick and others from two LGBT organizations. We talked for a while about the torment of the LGBT life many of them have lived while growing up in traditional Hawaiian families. Macho fathers. Religious mothers. We talked a lot about words and their power, especially in the lives of young people.

One young man, an F-to-M tranny, said, β€œAre you here to get dry-cleaned, like Brett Ratner?” Meaning I could do some mea culpa, write them a six-figure check, go to a dinner, sob at the table, give a heartfelt speech, beg for forgiveness. I thought to myself: Beg for forgiveness for something I didn’t do?

I said, β€œNo. I don’t want to get dry-cleaned. I don’t want to be decontaminated by you, Karen Silkwood–wise, scrubbed down. I want to learn about what is hurtful speech

These aren't dad jokes...

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.

This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.

If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.

Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
