Real question. I'm a lyrics third kind of listener (melody first, production charteristics second), so I don't have a horse in this race exactly. Their lyrics are fine, including PD. But most lyrics, as long as they aren't glaringly awful, tend to be fine to me as long as the song is hooky and sounds good. And IMO very few lyrics by most artists really stand on their own without the song. From my POV - some =w= songs have great lyrics, some have terrible lyrics, most are pretty in between. For those of you more lyrically inclined, what are some good examples of weezer excelling and/or failing at lyricism, and what also are good examples of other artists' good and/or bad lyricism and why?
He was talking about the upcoming Weezer album and dropped that it's being recorded the same way as Panic.

Do you think Rivers Cuomo plays persona?
From the latest issue of Rolling Stone:
[Cuomo] goes, βHey, so when you write songs, how do you do it?β I started explaining how we do it, which is pretty simple. I make some demos. I show them to the guys. And then we get together and play them. He says, βDo you listen to top 40 radio?β I said, βNow? Not really. I mean, unless Iβm in the car with my kids, I guess.β He said, βSo you donβt write songs to try to get on top 40 radio?β And I said, βNo. I donβt think weβre allowed there! Do I expect to knock Cardi B off the fucking charts? Absolutely not.β I said, βNo, I kind of write songs for the stage or a setlist, and I write them for Foo Fighters fans.β And he said, βWow. So you write for the show?β And I said, βYeah, donβt you?β And I donβt think that he does. I think that weβre sort of on opposite ends of that spectrum. Which is funny.

I am about 5β10β and 155lb, Iβm fit, I hike and climb around and do manual labor for fun. I have been in a decent amount of fist fights and wrestle and grapple in my backyard with friends occasionally In this hypothetical fight I have not had arranged for years (totally not going to happen next week) Rivers and I will be locked In a roughly 10x10 empty bedroom, wooden floors, two windows, on closet with a screen door. Parameters are no weapons, no biting. Other than that anything is fair game, no rounds, just fighting untill someone canβt get back up.
The rest of weezer will be standing outside one of the windows, evenly spaced.
My friends will be planning to beat up the rest of weezer, hypothetically, but thatβs a different post.
