A list of puns related to "Rena Owen"
Otherwise known as Beth Heke from Once Were Warriors. The strongest woman in NZ!
This is the published list of baby names born the first week of March that Babylist emails pregnant people who register with them β some fun ones here, and some terrible ones. Some of these names (Adalind, Eiza) seem spelled wrong, but maybe Iβm behind the times. And not a lot of doubling up!

Essay
A new TVNZ drama tells the story of a fictitious gang trying to go straight. Despite being funded as part of a major initiative to get MΔori stories to screen, Vegas reinforces some centuries-old stereotypes, writes Leonie Hayden.
Episode one of the new drama Vegas aired last night on TVNZ. Itβs a production being celebrated as a groundbreaking collaboration between PΔkehΔ and MΔori production houses, to give power back to MΔori when it comes to the telling of our stories.
Filmed in Rotorua and with an almost entirely MΔori cast, Vegas is a crime thriller about a gang leader trying to βfree his people from the curse of methamphetamineβ. After one last job, with one final outsized pay day, the gang can quit the meth-cooking business once and for all and use the money to buy back ancestral land, where they will live mΕ Δke tonu as their ancestors intended. As youβd expect, things donβt go to plan.
Iβve watched the first two episodes of Vegas, and the hard work and expertise from an extraordinary number of MΔori creatives is clear. I saw the dedication etched across every frame; attention to detail in wardrobe, photography and camera technique; excellent world-building thanks to powerful performances by on-camera talent.
What I didnβt see was any story sovereignty.
Vegas still feels like a story about MΔori told through a PΔkehΔ lens. It was funded last year alongside season two of One Lane Bridge and upcoming series The Panthers as part of NZ On Airβs Te Rautaki MΔori strategy. To qualify, along with language and content outcomes, two of three key creatives (producer, director or writer/researcher) must be MΔori. Vegas maintains the ratio with its 18 credited key creatives, of which 12 are tangata whenua β including some of our best and brightest, like The Legend of Baron Toβa director Kiel McNaughton, and the team behind the excellent short film Tits On a Bull, Tim Worrall, Piripi Curtis and Lara Northcroft.
But according to sources who worked on the project, not every credit is created equal.
Te Arawa writer and director Michael Bennett is
... keep reading on reddit β‘The funeral director was asking us what we think Mum should wear in her casket.
Mum always loved to wear sarongs (fabric wraps that go around the torso and drape downward a bit like a long skirt would), so my uncle suggested that she wear a sarong in there.
The funeral director looked a bit confused, as did some of our family members, to which my uncle added:
"What's sarong with that?"
I started laughing like an idiot. He was proud of it too. The funeral director was rather shocked. We assured her, and our more proper relatives, that Mum would've absolutely loved the joke (which is very true).
His delivery was perfect. I'll never forget the risk he took. We sometimes recall the moment as a way help cushion the blows of the grieving process.
--Edit-- I appreciate the condolences. I'm doing well and the worst is behind me and my family. But thanks :)
--Edit-- Massive thanks for all the awards and kind words. And the puns! Love 'em.
But Bill kept the Windows
True story; it even happened last night. My 5-year-old son walks up behind me and out of the blue says, "hey."
I turn to him and say, "yeah, kiddo? What's up?"
He responds, "it's dead grass."
I'm really confused and trying to figure out what's wrong and what he wants from me. "What? There's dead grass? What's wrong with that?"
.
.
.
He says, totally straight-faced, "hay is dead grass," and runs off.
You officially hit rock bottom
And then you will all be sorry.
No it doesn't.
Now itβs syncing.
He replied, "Well, stop going to those places then!"
I will find you. You have my Word.
