What's your opinion on the Baxter/Sagart (2014) reconstruction of Old Chinese?
All this pre-syllable stuff is pretty wild. And the idea of reconstructing a -r final to explain why certain rhyme groups seem to be distinguished only some times is intriguing.
Is there any consensus on these ideas?

Was there any precedent of L-vocalization to [j] or [i] in syllable coda position? Iโve seen one example in Zhengzhang Shangfangโs old Chinese reconstruction.
Like L > [ส] > [j] or [i]?

A bit of hope ๐ฅฐ I'm a 26 year old ballet dancer 2 months post op (labral reconstruction + CAM/FAI debridement). I was so scared I'd never be able to do this again. The post op pain, sleepless nights, panic attacks, depressive episodes, sciatica flare ups...they all feel a little worth it today.

Pet Theory: Belisarius Cawl is an insane AI that is so old it has forgotten it's an AI reconstruction Cawl made of himself, and just believes it is the original Cawl.
This is supported by Cawl Minorus, a machine construct that perfectly mimics Cawls thinking processes and memory that does so... somehow. All the divergent personas Cawl has absorbed over the years are people's minds he has digitized like his own. He also somehow has memory backups all over the galaxy.
He has had his mind wiped several times and restored from one of these backups, and is able to interface with Necron systems so completely he controlled their intergalactic teleportation network and the very beacon that may have attracted the Tyranids in Pharos.
As AI is hella heresy, the best way to hide is in plain sight, and why masquerade as Cawl as a mask when you can have such an easier time being the mask itself?

In Old Chinese phonological reconstructions (e.g. BaxterโSagart), does *r stand for an alveolar trill specifically, or just an unknown rhotic consonant?
Iโve been wondering about this for a while, and my etymological dictionary does not seem to know.

Today has been the 28th anniversary of the destruction of the Old Bridge in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The bridge was reconstructed 11 years later in 2004 and in 2005 the bridge was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List, in recognition of its strong symbolic value.

A few questions about using reconstructions to learn multiple Chinese languages
Say I wanted to know a bunch of vocab in Mandarin, Cantonese, and Hokkien. Would learning reconstructions in middle and old chinese be useful? Which reconstruction would be the most efficient? Are there lists of sound changes that could take me from the reconstruction to a somewhat close estimate of the pronunciation of a character in a given language? Like, I know that the initial consonant of ๅฎถ is velar (k) outside of Mandarin because the initial j comes from the velar.
