Β· Rachel comes in at 17:02
Β· Derrick and Rachel reminisce about the old times, Derrick talks about how nice and hospitable Rachel was to him when he started
Β· Rachel talks about how back in the day when you got along really well on the show, you had a real friendship in real life
Β· Derrick went to the VMAβs in Miami and Rachel had gotten the Miz to connect with him, the Miz took him to parties, etc.
Β· Derrick went to NYC for the first time because of Rachel and Veronica β Rachel says that he was the little brother that everyone wanted to bring along everywhere
Β· They talk a little bit about votingβ¦ Rachel is a huge advocate of the voting system. She also isnβt a fan of how politics are today. There was more respect between the parties (Gore vs. Bush) but nowadays the parties are at such a different spectrum that itβs become uncivil
Β· For the sake of this Challenge Mania recap, Iβm not going to go summarize Rachelβs political beliefs ONLY because I want to keep it strictly about the challenge. BUT I urge you take a listen. Rachel is very passionate about the countryβs political climate and you can hear it when she talks about it
Β· Rachel was an athlete growing up, but tore her knee playing basketball during her junior year of high school. She had to rethink what she wanted to do for college because she missed out on scholarships
Β· During her first semester at school (it gets a little confusing here) she went to USF, but had a roommate at Tampa who was coming down to Orlando. She drove with that friend to visit another friend in UCF where she ended up auditioning
Β· The audition was actually for both Real World and Road Rules. The season of Real World was Las Vegas and you had to be 21+ so she could only do Road Rules. There were only 3 girl spots left for Road Rules and she got it
Β· Rachel says the cast of Real World Las Vegas and Road Rules Campus Crawl had the best casts. They had the best energy
Β· Rachel doesnβt watch the show, she only sees what happens on Twitter and from what Shane tells her
Β· They talk about the time when Road Rules pranked the Real World, which was one of the first times that the 2 casts actually connected with each other
Β· As the show progressed, Rachel saw the show going in a direction that she wouldnβt be comfortable doing, especially with the last season she did
Β· Rachel says the Duel 2 was one of the best seasons ever, not only because she won, but because the cast had great energy, people were genuinely getting al
... keep reading on reddit β‘i've loved Here's to You, Rachel Robinson by Judy Blume ever since elementary school. it's my favorite childhood book ever. even now as an adult, i cherish that book and re-bought a copy this year to re-live some nostalgia.
however...i still don't understand this one part of the book?
spoilers for anyone who hasn't read it yet (which i recommend. even if it's a child/pre-teen book, it's super fun to read)---
the part i have a question about is on pages 165 to the top of 167
i don't want to overload this post with explaining the plot up til this point in the book, but the basic premise of this part is: charles, rachel's troubled brother, has changed his last name from robinson to their family's old, original form which was Rybczynski.
when they get to ellis island, charles looks up their family's original surname on the computers there and they see:
Country of Origin- Poland
and
Donor- Victor (Rybczynski) Robinson
However, it mentions that Victor (rachel and charles' dad) "swallowed hard" and all of this on the screen makes charles so upset he runs off and has a dramatic tempter tantrum where he makes a big scene...
this ends with charles crying and the dad comforting him...
for years now, i've always wondered what this scene means. what does the info on the screen mean? is it wrong? did charles expect something different? what does the dad being mentioned as a donor on the screen have to do with any of this?
when i went to new york myself quite a few years ago, i insisted my parents take me to ellis island because of this book, so this part of the book means a lot to me, but i still dont understand what it means.
if anyone remembers this book and can help me finally understand the meaning to the ellis island chapter, i'd greatly appreciate it!
I wish Rachel would come back so bad!!! Also I think the challenge is getting so boring. Everything is so grueling and brutal you watch people work out for an hour straight. I miss them getting drunk and screaming constantly and doing dumb shit like eating milk and cookies and not puking or running up hills with lampshades on their head. It was so much more entertaining and fun to watch. π
