A list of puns related to "Psych Major"
Hi, I hope this is the appropriate sub for this. Iβm having a bit of a crisis deciding what career Iβd like to be in, and honestly, I love stats. I do different analyses in SPSS for my psych degree and will be graduating in a year, with the final semester being a research seminar.
I wanted to be a Physician Assistant, and Iβm still considering it, but Iβm not so sure; being able to work on a what seems to be βachievement basedβ system rather than appointment system in many health care jobs seems nice. Also not a fan of pure coding, though Iβd be willing to learn R, Python, SQL, whatever Iβd need. I just like data and stats.
So, Iβm too far in to ditch my psych major. I knew Iβd end up doing some post-grad stuff, so Iβm not too worried about that, but Iβm considering an MS in statistics in order to get into the data science field because many people say a degree in DS isnβt really required and others say DS is another term for βstatisticianβ nowadays regarding job posts. Also kinda curious about base pay if anyone has any insights, I know β65k is average to begin with, but has anyone started off higher?
Any advice or input is welcomed!! Thank you
I'm 22, and fast tracking my last two years of my Bachelors and getting it done in one year. I will be transferring to the U of Manitoba (I'm American, but my state has reciprocity with Canada). So I have started looking for jobs.
My eventual goal is to become a psychologist and open my own office. There are other things I would like to get into as well (opening a sober house/working with rehab facilities/etc.) But short term, after I get my bachelors next year, my plan was to become a probation parole officer in my home state. But I have started to run into a lot of problems with this plan.
Google said the average salary for a probation officer was 40k-60k but MOST of the job listings I see are for under 30k. And they're all in the capital which I lived in for years and hate. There are social work jobs that surprisingly pay better but I am wary of going into that line of work. Everything I hear about it is negative, in that they are overworked, underpaid, and experience high burnout. Some people say its more dangerous than parole/probation officer work because you make home visits unarmed.
I found one psychiatric technician job in my state which I would like but I received inpatient care there as a teen and I don't know if it would disqualify me. Also, I would feel uncomfortable being coworkers with staff that took care of me only a few years back and saw me when I was so fragile.
I am starting to feel very stressed about this and like I am getting a useless degree. I love my field but realistically the job for a bachelors are bad. If I become a psychologist there's no guarantee that there will be enough demand to open my own practice outside of the city. I might be stuck making half the regular wage working for someone else or having to move to the city and hate my life again. I'm okay with working outside of my state for a year, maybe a few but I would ultimately like to settle down here. I love my home. Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
title. I'm a freshman and want to compare my 4 yr degree plan with other psych majors. feel free to pm me.
Really concerned about the order of my classes and my advisor suckss so I cant even go to them.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!
So I just realised that I have very bleak prospects. I'm in my final semester and I don't feel like i've gained any transferable skills compared to those doing hard sciences, engineering, architecture or even busines studies. If i had a chance I would go back and take btech biotech. Idk why I chose psychology.
Everything in my curriculum is theory. I do not see myself hiring someone like me.
What can I do now, as in what masters degree do I go for? What other skills should i be learning if money is the main goal
Can it be done or am I doomed?
Sorry for the bad grammar, I'm not in a very good mental state right now.. grateful for any suggestions/advice you might have!
Hello! Iβm a Year 2 biomed student, currently living in Singapore. Iβll most likely be doing yet, another semester online and was hoping to find others who may be/have been in a similar situation. Although Iβm grateful to be home with my family, Iβm definitely worried about βmissing outβ on the first 2 years of uni- especially since Iβve heard thatβs when most friendships are formed. And from what Iβve heard, it seems like many of those whoβve been doing remote studies are planning on moving (back) to Melbourne, by next month (though I guess some people are having second thoughts, now, which is understandableβ¦). As Iβm sure many of you can relate to, itβs pretty hard to make friends during zoom tutorials, so Iβm trying to find alternative ways to get to know people, before I actually move to Melbourne.
It would be great to find people who are maybe in the same course or year, or even from the same country as me. Iβm also taking many psych pre-requisites, so Iβm hoping to reach out to people who are majoring/planning to major in psych (from whichever course). Feel free to DM me, if youβre more comfortable with that!
Thanks :)
Hi. So Iβm a sophomore in college and I only recently made the decision to switch my focus to a bachelor of arts in psychology. Iβve been interested in the brain my entire life. I even remember when I was 14 I wrote that my ultimate goal in life was to study the brain, specifically dreams, to learn more about how we worked.
Iβve always been fascinated by abnormal psychology (schizophrenia and other mental disorders) so the psych major was an easy decision once I decided to follow my passion.
Iβm double-majoring with a BA in anthropology because I saw my future self possibly ending up at a non-profit abroad to help people with their day to day lives, maybe as a counselor but not 100% set on that.
As I finished up my semester and reflected on the classes I took, my Memory & Cognition class was BY FAR my favorite, so much so that I applied to do research with my professor next semester, who is a neuroscientist. I started watching neuroscience lectures and I was fascinated by what I was learning. Itβs such a deeper education than just studying the psychology of the brain. I want to know WHY these things are happening. I want to know the biological basis. I think thatβs one of the most interesting parts of psychology.
My school doesnβt have any psych concentrations but there is a cognitive neuroscience concentration.
The problem is, I did the bare minimum of science and math in high school (geology and algebra lol) and the only science class Iβve taken in college was this semester, a forensics class. I liked the material, but the professor was a PhD student and she wasnβt a very good teacher imo.
Anyway, I was just wondering whether it would be possible for me to study something to do with neuroscience maybe in grad school if I get a psych degree, or if I have to switch my major to neuroscience, would I be able to finish all the science classes in less than 3 years? Again, I have no background in chemistry, calculus, or physics. Med school would be interesting if I liked what I studied but the science track intimidates the hell out of me.
fellow psych majors, i employ ur advice plz. should i take psych 306 (developmental) or 345 (social) first? i'm leaning more towards 345 because it sounds more interesting but i heard 306 is a prereq for a lot of upper psych classes.... help a girl out plz.
(i am aware that both of them are closed, but if either of them were to open a spot i want to know which one i should take)
Iβm a freshman rn and Iβm planning on doing psych and neuro but Iβm kinda having a hard time visualizing how my semesters should play out to balance out both majors so Iβm hoping that anyone thatβs done this combo can help me out with this
Title. I want to knock these courses out asap so I can take upper-level courses next semester, but idk if taking 203 before taking 201 is smart. I'm good with numbers and got a 4 on the AP stat test in high school, is that good enough to take 203 or are there key topics in 201 that aren't typically taught in a general stat class?
iβm currently a sophomore and i declared a double major in neuro and psych right before spring registration opened. iβm premed so i mainly picked neuro bc the reqs line up w the premed reqs and bc so many premeds are neuro majors according to the reports published by hpao each year, but iβm much more interested, content-wise, in psych. all the adults around me say that psych wonβt help in getting a job at all and is fun to learn but doesnβt have much value. ultimately if med school works out then ik it doesnβt really matter what i study in undergrad, but i want to have a useful/marketable major as a backup. so should i keep psych as my second major or does anyone have recommendations for more useful (in terms of the job market) majors?
Iβm a 20 y/o female psych major graduating fall 2022. Also currently working as a physical therapist tech.
My goal for a while has been to be a physician assistant, which Iβm still leaning towards, but Iβve been reconsidering it the past few weeks.
Iβve consideredβ¦ β’ Physical therapist, but the pay (at least 70-80k) doesnβt justify the β140k+ school debt β’Software development, but I hate coding β’I/O Psychology, requires a PhD, which Iβll consider as I kinda want to be a professor some day β’UX designer, but Iβm not a really tech-savvy person β’Statistician because I love logic and stats, I do a lot as a psych major actually β’Optometrist, but thereβs no in-state schools in Virginia β’HR manager, though Iβm pretty introverted and would probably have to start off as a recruiter, also it seems extremely stressful β’College professor, as I stated above^ because I want to live knowing I have a direct impact on someoneβs life. Many of my past teachers and professors have left marks on me, and I hope to do the same. Not sure if spending 4-7 yrs post-bachelorβs would make me happy though. Iβd probably regret it, so I think thatβs a later in life thing.
I donβt know. Iβm pretty introverted, logic-minded, philosophize a lot, but also love listening to people. Couldnβt be a clinical psych or social worker though because listening to peopleβs emotional problems drain me bc I know that, a majority of the time, they wouldnβt really take my advice. Maybe Iβm just cynical idk! thatβs why I like medicine bc itβs more objective in the sense you can diagnose specifically.
I also wouldnβt mind going back to school to get my masterβs for something unrelated.
If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it!!:)
Hello! Im a y2 psych and social work double major student (psych first major) and Im quite interested in going for exchange. Does any senior w the same majors have any examples of their module mappings they wouldnt mind sharing? Also, if anyone taking psych + sw has gotten exchange before, do yall mind sharing what your cap was + which uni you got accepted too! I dont think i got accepted for the first round (unless anyone has any idea when they stop releasing acceptance offers for this round?) so Im going to try my luck again in round 2, trying to make smart decisions on where to apply to with my current cap :β) (current cap is 4.05, anyone know where is a good country/uni to apply to where my chances would be higher?)
Oh also if anyone w these majors have experience on whether or not its hard to get the mods you mapped for exchange, would you mind sharing too!! Im quite worried i would have to grad late :β) hahahah thanks everyone in advance!
Im in psych 100b rn which is my last prerequisite so could I declare my major now or do I have to wait until I finish the class? And how do I declare?

So, I have a ton of psych units (transfer from Sierra), and I didn't get into the psych major this time around. I was able to build a pretty good schedule for spring, but last week had a meeting with the psych department where I was kinda guided to declare a different major. But I don't want to fall any farther away from graduation.... Has anyone ever been in this situation/have any advice? Should I attempt to apply to Psych again in the spring? I'm really stressing and any help would be so appreciated.
Y'all i need some help. I'm poor as shit and need cash. Does anyone know any good paying intro jobs in the psych/med field.
I am currently majoring in psychology and I was really considering doing a double major with Communications OR just doing a minor in philosophy. I really want to study something that would help me in the long run as I am planning on pursuing a PsyD in clinical psychology but I'm not 100 percent sure yet.
Hello! I'll be a junior in spring 2022 @ USF and I was wondering if anyone has any information on what teachers I should attempt to take?
I plan to live with family and don't have a secure way to commute to the schools so I was going to try to get away with online/ remote (hopefully) entirely if that is an option. Does anyone have any suggestions on teachers I should take?
According to the website the recommended/required classes are : PSY 3213 - Research Methods in Psychology CLP 4433 - Psychological Tests and Measurement OR PSY 4205 - Experimental Design and Analysis
Cognitive/Neural Sciences Psychology classes Social/Applied Psychology classes Elective/Psychology Concentration classes
I would also like to take Japanese as an elective! So if there's any information that someone could provide on that I would appreciate it <3
Hi everyone! I recently applied to S.F. State for fall 2022 as a transfer student. I was wondering what the psych majors on this sub thought of SFSU and if itβs a good fit for the major
Okay husky fam, please send good vibes and thoughts my way. Iβm a scared and nervous wreck who already cried twice.
TLDR: Is a psych major (relatively) easy to do well in?
Hello! I'm thinking of majoring in Psychology because I'm interested in a career in Psychiatry (which I need to go to Med school for). But to apply to Med, I'd need a pretty solid GPA, and I don't want to take a super hard major and stuff it up.
So, in general how hard are the Level 2 and Level 3 Psych Major subjects? Are they easy/straightforward to do well in or will they drag down my GPA? I've heard that due to the competition for Clinical Psychology they are often marked reallyyy harshly compared with first year psych subjects. What has everybody's experience been with this? I'd appreciate any insight into the world of a Psych Major!
Cheers!
hey all, as title says, im interested in making as much money as possible during my gap year to save up for med school. what are you guys doing in your gap year(s)? thanks!
for the record, I'm a psychology and philosophy double major!
And I will still never understand why every time they mention bulimia, they find it necessary to show a white woman hunched over a toilet, sticking her fingers down her throat.
any business and psych double majors what are you thinking about doing career wise?
bonus for adorable animals!
I feel like an absolute clown being a psych major. Iβm depressed, I self harm, just an overall dysfunctional human being. I know psychology isnβt just about mental illnesses, and that it has a lot of other applications but I just feel so out of place.
Iβve only been able to schedule 3 classes this next semester. Everything i try to schedule is reserved capacity or full. I cant find any classes to take. Iβm a psych major and social work minor. Pls leave recommendations. (Sophomore)
I'm in Greece with NUin right now and I'm currently a business and psych combined major. I've decided that I don't really see myself pursuing business, so I want to switch to the psych BS. I wanted to talk to an advisor about it before registration, but nobody got back to me, so I'm still in the combined major for the next semester (taking 3 psych classes plus the two business classes they're requiring me to take). Does anyone have any experience with these majors? If I want to go into a psych career, is there any benefit to staying in the combined major, or should I just switch? Any pros and cons of each? Any help is appreciated :)
Any psych majors in this sub? I apply for fall 2022 and got in. What do yβall think?
