Rand Paulβs problematic stock trade
Senator Rand Paul admitted this week that he failed to disclose his wifeβs purchase of stock in Gilead Sciences, the maker of a coronavirus treatment, in the early days of the coronavirus outbreak. The trade in February 2020 was small and not profitable. And there is no evidence it was made based on insider information gleaned by the Republican from Kentucky.
But the delayed disclosure, 16 months after the filing deadline, which Paulβs spokeswoman says was an oversight, again raises questions about whether stock trading by lawmakers and their families is properly policed.
The Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge, or STOCK, Act, passed in 2012, requires lawmakers to disclose trades within 45 days. This was supposed to eliminate the appearance that they use their influence and access for profit. Nearly a decade later, Paulβs trade disclosure is the latest example of how the law has fallen short.
At least a dozen lawmakers have recently revealed that they missed disclosure deadlines, including Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Democrat of Florida, and Senator Tommy Tuberville, Republican of Alabama. βThere is absolutely a trend of more people filing late,β said Kedric Payne, a senior director of ethics at the Campaign Legal Center.
The disclosure rules are rarely, if ever, enforced. STOCK Act disclosures have led to some high-profile investigations, but experts told DealBook that they couldnβt think of a single case that the Justice Department has brought under the actβs disclosure rules. βIf the Justice Department went after more of those cases, Iβm sure lawmakers would more diligently comply,β said Virginia Canter, a lawyer for the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.
Penalties under the law are minor. The STOCK Act gives the Justice Department the ability to bring criminal charges, but the bar is high. And the law caps civil fines at $50,000. In practice, violations are generally resolved with a minimal fine, typically as little as $200 for a first-time offense.

You hear the question: Would you rather fight 10 duck sized horses or a horse sized duck? Or something similar. Everytime its asked, someone says, "according to the inverse square/square cube law, the horse sized duck would be very weak". Someone explain the physics here. Ive heard it said with inverse square and square cube, whichever is the correct one is the one i mean.
I would want to get some objective input either by lawyers or non lawyers with a law degree on whether if itβs practical to not be a lawyer with an LLB. My current position is that I want to do legal work, but not necessary as a lawyer. Do you guys think itβs practical/worth it?
I've listened to several videos by Orthodox Father Bernstein on the Jewish Roots of the Orthodox Liturgy and in those lectures he mentions how, Protestants especially, treat the ceremonial law as something that solely pointed to Christ.
Bernstein explained with a few passages that the worship of the Tabernacle and the Temple reveals what happens in Heaven: the way the angels worship, we will worship, etc. and it gave instructions on how to reproduce that type of worship according to that heavenly model.
So that's why now our worship should still be based on the revelation of God to Moses.
I'm terribly interested in this subject Idk if someone here could point me to some resources to learn from.
Just wondering, no clear info on the website.
I'm guessing it's per fee earner?
Thanks
The wikipedia page is just equations and isn't exactly implementable. I would be interested in what you guys are using for missiles and torpedoes specifically, but I would also like to rig up some kind of CLOS missile for the rule of cool.
I am a paralegal that used to work for a large corporation that subscribed to the service. I've now moved to a small private company with only one attorney and myself. I think the resources would be really helpful for a small team like us. However, I know how much it cost at the large corporation and I'm afraid it would be cost prohibitive. Any feedback would be appreciated.
My husbandβs sisters are both married, mid-30s to early-40s and Iβd like to get both couples a βcouple giftβ from us for the holidays. Ideally something I can get for both couples. Budget, ~$50.
One set has kids, one just has a lot of dogs. Both have established households.
The clerk passed the bar.
Now, we fuck with him.

I have strong skills in research, writing, analytical thinking, negotiation, and interpersonal communication. I have a great work ethic, fast learning capabilities, an easy going attitude, and practical business/corporate experience.
As a law student, I had the opportunity to develop skill sets that support strong work ethic, critical analysis, and adaptability under a heavy work load and deadline driven culture. In my work experience as a Product Operations Coordinator, I negotiated and executed contracts, met with suppliers, compiled reports such as cost analyses, and performed support for our executive team and road crew. My background includes content management system support, validation, quality control and problem solving. I understand the corporate culture and support structure.
Additionally, I have conducted research and writing on a professional and academic level. My work includes research, writings, and editing for travel companies, Academic Decathlon, Facts on File, and the local courthouse. For my undergraduate work in history, I conducted historical research on topics as varied as American economics, Constitutional law, military history, and Southeast Asian culture.
I have my resume, a list of references, and writing samples available upon request. Lastly, I am also an award winning homebrewer.
Thank you very kindly for your consideration.
So I joined this company about two years ago (just under). I work in data protection, and this company I work at is a very old-school company who keep their knowledge in their heads and have very little to no actual policies, procedures and guidance written down.
I've been telling them for over a year now that they are breaking the law and need to approve policies to be published publicly and internally. The managing director doesn't want to "rock the boat" and annoy his staff, so he has purposely held off from approving OVER 80 policies and procedures currently waiting on his signature.
Today I was told that my stresses from not having a single policy approved is down to me "not managing my workload properly" and that I "have an obligation to help this company comply with the law".
No shit, Sherlock.
I am a CISSP. It means nothing to most people, but if you work in information security or data protection, it's a big thing. I spent years studying, getting the correct experience and making sure I was at the top of my game. They pay me the wage arguably of someone just starting in data protection, so you can imagine I was already in a pretty bad place mentally from this.
To go with that, I cover the workload of about 3-4 people, including data protection, ISO compliance, subject access requests, GDPR, PCI DSS and various other acronyms that mean little to people until everyone realises it's there to protect their data. Long story short, any of those acronyms/positions are good to fill the workload for a single person full-time. I do all of them at the same time. I'm so overworked and stressed, I spend a full hour each day at my desk just writing out what I'm doing that day!
This being the final nail in a very long coffin, I started reaching out to people in my network. One company happened to be looking for a Compliance Officer, offering a 100% payrise as well as other perks for doing less work than I do now, and the ability to work fully from home (my first ever job with this kind of perk!).
So being a qualified CISSP who could feasibly lose his certification if he does the wrong ethical thing, I am handing in my notice tomorrow. They can try and find someone who will do the work of 3-4 people and for the pay of not-even-half of one. I'm done here.
The look on their face tomorrow when they realise they have 3 months to find someone to not only cover my position, but probably that the person won't do the work I've done (I know, I was stupid and could
