Okay I in general really like Susan as a character both before Grave Peril and her working with Saint Giles later on, but on this re-read I can't help but have no real pity for what happens to her at the party. I am not saying she deserves it (no one deserves any of that stuff the reds do to you) it just feels like showing up to a supernatural party with a forged invitation should win you the supernatural would equivalent of the Darwin's awards . What do you guys think?
In Grave Peril, Lea casts a memory spell on Susan, but Harry restores her memory by finally saying "I love you."
In the moment, Harry says he's not sure why the "magic words" work, but I just realized. Lea specifically set up the spell to break when Harry used that phrase. She knew Harry was having difficulty saying the words to Susan, so she engineered the entire situation to encourage Harry to admit his love to Susan.
Lea was doing what she thought a godmother should; teaching Harry a lesson about life and relationships. The fact that it was a painful lesson for Harry is 100% in character with what we see of Lea teaching Harry & Molly later in the series.
