I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
With Ariana Debose almost most definitely getting a nod for this category in West Side Story, and having a great shot at winning, I thought it would be fun to look at all the movie musical performances that have been nominated in this category.
There’s only been 16 actresses in movie musicals nominated in this category and only 4 have ever won (Moreno, Zeta-Jones, Hudson, & Hathaway). Interestingly all 4 stared in films that were based on Broadway stage musicals.
Of these performances which are your favorites and are there any nominations you don’t understand?
I’d have to say Rita Moreno’s performance is my favorite of the group, that I’ve scene. I think she’s excellent in the role and her scenes are the best in the film. I know she gets flack for being dubbed in 2/3 of the songs she has solos in (as do the rest of the leads) but she makes up for it with her dancing and acting. The r*** scene at Doc’s always gives me chills.
I’d also like to shoutout Hathaway. I think she’s great in the role and I hate when people say that all Fantine has in Les Mis is I Dreamed a Dream because it’s just not true.
