What if the Crisis of the Third Century had resulted in the long-term independence of the Gallic and Palmyrene Empires?

Assume whatever POD would be necessary for this to occur (Aurelian doesn’t come to power, etc). What do you imagine the long term affects of this would be? Would it affect the christianization of the Mediterranean world? Would these breakaway states be more or less able to deal with invasion (by the Germans in the Gallic Empire and the Sassanids in Palmyra) than our timeline’s Rome was? Would the rest of the Roman Empire be able to survive as a unified state, or would it continue to fracture until there was basically nothing left? If they were able to successfully survive, what do you imagine the culture of these empires would be like?

Appreciate any answers at all!

Palmyrene Empire | A Mod with a Cause!

Link to Mod: Steam Workshop Link

Link to Thread on Civfanatics: HERE

Link to my own Mod Showcase: VIDEO

Creators: Firebug, TPangolin, DJSHenninger and many others!

What I hope from you reading and checking out the mod?

Honestly I hope that this Civilization gets more recognition and is seen by many more people because it's a mod with a great cause, great design and worthwhile effort packed into it. Honestly with all the care and work put into it, it makes one of my top civilizations list for those very reasons. I hope everyone can enjoy this mod and check it out alongside the thread and Showcase as it's a phenomenal mod with such a good cause backing it.

Why was this Mod made?

Because Firebug was distraught over the loss of history pertaining to the Palmyrene Empire by the hands of The Islamic State. In an effort to hold a piece of history of their civilization and commemorate them as well he came up with this idea. This was what brought many together for this collabroative project resulting in the Palmyrene Empire led by Zenobia.

EU3: Rise of the Palmyrene Empire [MOD]

I have compiled my mega-campaign EU3 portion into a mod with several starting scenarios!

This thread will also be where I will answer any and all technical questions. I will maintain this mod and even try and add in events from my mega campaign as time goes on. Currently this is just the scenarios. There are no custom decisions or events. Those might come depending on the level of popular support.

Download Link! (V0.1)

Scenarios:

1399 - Grand Campaign:

The war between Palmyra and the HRE has finally come to a close. The once great Holy Roman Empire is broken and Palmyra is on top of the world. The caliphate however has its own plans to seize the day...

1512 - Civil Horde:

The Qasim Khanate has settled down. Far from its roots it has become much more europian like. Now India and China are open to plunder from its massive technological advance and reformed society...

1568 - Height of the Caliphate:

France is beaten and torn. Scandinavia has all but fallen. Europa is at risk of complete destruction at the hands of the great caliph. Their only hope for salvation rests with the Palmyrene Empire. However it has proven in the past to be quite reluctant to help Europa in anyway...

1618 - Palmyra the Saviour:

The Caliphate is now in decline thanks to the help of Palmyra. Now it all culminates into one final war where Palmyra prepares to assault mainland spain!

1700 - A Fractured Empire:

The once great Holy Roman Empire has risen again and has even become a threat to Palmyra herself. If it can overcome its internal turmoil it will be able to challenge the world

1784 - Revolution:

The Ideals of the revolution existed and sometimes even discussed in Palmyra's senate. However when the Idea's escaped the empire it had a much more... Drastic effect on countries who accepted the ideas...

1814 - Palmyra vs Europa:

The French revolution has been put down. Now Europa turns its eyes onto Palmyra. United Europa would stand against the last of the revolution resulting in a 22 year war of epic proportions. Who will come out on top?

The β€œKnights Templar” were a military order sent to protect pilgrims to the Holy Land Jerusalem. Molay was the 23rd and final president of that order.

The privileges afforded to that chivalrous order allowed it to spread its influence across the whole of Europe. With financial power equivalent to a country, they played a key role in the formation of the first international bank.

However, their secretive nature led them to disaster, and the suspicions of heresy and black magecraft rituals, sparked by jealousy, led to the order shutting down.

Molay was burnt at the stake at the Île de la Cité in Paris, but just before he died, he screamed a curse in a fell language, and the French king and Pope who headed the conspiracy died suddenly the following year.

The Foreigner Jacques de Molay is an innocent Heroic Spirit whose Spirit Origin was altered by the infamy and scandal that were spread by those powerful people who were jealous of the chivalrous order.

Furthermore, the Evil God who possesses the name β€œThe Holy Mother of the Abyss”, who wishes to corrupt humanity, has possessed her, boosting her malignance.

Incidentally, it is said that the symbol of bad luck, Friday the Thirteenth, originates as the day that the Knights Templar were rounded up.

Random historical connection between Zenobia and Jeanne.

Jeanne d'arc is know as the Maid of Orleans.

The city of Orleans in France was originally named Cenabum. In the late 3rd century AD,Β Emperor AurelianΒ rebuilt the city and renamed itΒ civitas AurelianorumΒ ("city of Aurelian") after himself. The name later evolved into OrlΓ©ans.

Emperor Aurelian of course being the one that defeated Zenobia and ended her Palmyrene Empire.

And as a bonus connection, both Zenobia and Summer Jeanne are Archer servants with an AOE Noble Phantasm.

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Republican View: Foreign Policy

Since this is supposed to be a sub stack focusing on foreign policy I thought I would focus on the topic exclusively for the second article of our series.

Foreign policy from a Republican perspective can be summed up in one quick sentence. The American Empire exists and it is a fundamental good to the world. This is in direct contrast to those who view America as a fundamental evil to the world and must take a step back and allow others to lead. Republicans do acknowledge that certain evils can be ascribed to the American Empire however those evils pale in comparison to the evils that will be endured should another hegemon take its place. For example. Certain segments of the world may view America as a racist country but this racism is nothing compared to the racism a world ruled by China would endure.

Self Determination

As a corollary to this Republicans believe that geopolitically self determination largely does not exist. In a world where there is no Hegemon the individual states themselves would compete amongst themselves to become the next ruler. This is historically proven. Take the various wars Europe was involved in to decide on who the premier world power would be. On a smaller scale look at the various warlords at the end of the Han dynasty in China or the Sengoku Jidai in Japan. All these situations had minor powers who were largely independent compete with each other to produce a regional Hegemon. Of course this competition created untold misery and devastation to the local population which only stopped when a winner was declared.

Maintenance

Since the Republicans believe there is a value to the American Empire, it means that there is also a value in keeping the Empire going. This does not automatically mean using American troops to fight every battle. The Roman Empire for example began to use Romanized Goths and Gauls to do a majority of their fighting and the British Empire used Sepoys and other colonial troops. The American Empire in its current form uses Israelis and other Muslim troops to fight battles in the Middle East and various rebel factions in other theatres. While Republicans believe that the Military is an essential component to the Empire it is not the only one. Economic, Cultural, and other means can also be used to maintain it.

Republicans are normally accused of hypocrisy when it comes to foreign policy. Why support extremists in KSA and condemn those in Afghanistan for example? The answer is that hypocrisy doesn
