So, I recently found the Palm IIIx that I got a few years ago at a garage sale(was in the box and everything, ordered a cradle for it a few days ago as well). And I remember that one day when I was bored, I popped it open to see what made it tick. And I found an expansion card slot, however, I looked online and could find nothing that would go in that slot.
Any ideas where I could find the expansion cards or what keywords to use?
What is the best way to transfer applications to an older Palm handheld? I just purchased a IIIx (for sentimental reasons) and it seems that Palm Desktop is no longer supported on either mac or windows. Does J-Pilot support transferring apps, or does it just sync data? Aside from procuring a 32-bit windows XP system (or maybe a virtual machine), is there an easier way to transfer from my mac?
I have a few older palms in storage that might have my apps on them; could IR them over.
I was an early adopter of the Palm IIIxe back in the day, and recently acquired one for nostalgia (This one even has the cradle!!!). I purchased a USB to Serial adapter from Amazon and am trying to get it to connect. I modified the settings to use the USB comm port but am still unable to connect. Any help would be appreciated.

I recently bought a Palm IIIxe. It worked upon arrival for about 3 days. I put new batteries in it and all of a sudden it does not turn on anymore. Instead, it makes a hissing/whining noise with no image. Also, the backlight is slightly illuminated.
I tried resetting it, hard/warm/soft, etc. I opened it up, it was very clean. I rubbed it down in alcohol, still, nothing. Put the original batteries back, nada.
Does anyone know why it is doing this?

I’m looking for the original ROM file for all the classic palms. Especially the IIIxe. I want to restore the original OS on there so I need the ROM. Not the debug rom that floats around online but the original one. Can someone help me out?

New here, just making a quick emergency post but my newly purchased palm IIIxe has an issue where when batteries are inserted, the screen lights up dimly and buzzes from the speaker, any clue what could cause this?
I just installed a bunch of .PRCs onto my Palm IIIxe using HotSync install, and one of them is causing an immediate fatal exception at the homescreen. So I can't access the Delete Application menu...
Is there any way to delete apps using HotSync? Or any way I can boot up in "safe mode" or something? Or do I just have to backup and reinstall everything?

So I got a Palm IIIxe and a Palm brand folding keyboard as a gift for a writer I know. However, there is a problem: When you type on the keyboard, the typing is processed slowly. It can't keep up if you type quickly.
I'm trying to figure out if this was just the original design, or if there is a software problem. I have tried two different keyboards--same performance. I upgraded the Palm from 3.5.3 to 4.1. Same performance. Someone sent me a link to the keyboard 1.1 beta driver in the Wayback Machine. That's didn't improve the performance either.
Now I had one of the folding keyboards years ago, but I do not remember it not being able to keep up with my typing. Can anyone help with some advice?
Also: does anyone know where to get the keyboard 1.2 driver or 1.5 driver for me to try?

Just picked up a Palm IIIxe at the swap meet today, complete with box, CD, and sync cradle with a serial connection. Because my last PC with an actual serial port literally decided to die shortly thereafter, I bought a USB-to-serial adapter (Prolific driver).
I've tried two different PCs, one with Palm Desktop 4.14, the other with Palm Desktop 6.2, and a variety of serial connection speeds (9600, 57600, 115200), on two different x64 Windows 10 PCs, and on both, the Palm decides partway through synchronization that it's lost connection with the PC. The PC, meanwhile, usually doesn't notice, and I can restart the HotSync, which appears to then continue, before eventually failing.
Any idea what's up, or suggested settings to try to get this to work?
While searching for something else on kijiji, I came across a Palm IIIxe in good condition and picked it up this weekend. It's running Palm OS 3.5. Unfortunately it didn't come with a serial cable, but I do have a PowerBook G3 with an IrDA port that I was able to get it to HotSync with once and then never again after that (is there some sort of special magic to it?).
Once I get connectivity sorted, I'm interested in finding some old software to try on it. Are there any software repositories or good Internet Archive pages for PalmOS software that allow you to filter out apps that require Palm OS 4/5 or newer? Also, are there any clever workarounds that people here have figured out to sync Google or Office Mail/Calendars/Contacts etc. with it via HotSync?
Also, from what I've read, I'm able to upgrade the device to PalmOS 4.1 if I find the right installer. Is this an important upgrade to make in terms of software compatibility and functionality, or will it slow the device down and/or break compatibility with older apps that would run better on its hardware?

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
