AMC Pacific Place vs. Regal Meridian

For an number of reason I am unable to go see Eternals at a better theater with a bigger screen, so I'm curious if anyone recently has tried out AMC Pacific Place or Regal Meridian on 7th ave and what your thoughts are. Obviously if Cinerama (RIP) were still around it would be a no-brainer to go there or even IMAX at the PSC. But I'm looking for a "least bad" option between those two given that they re the most walkable.

If every U.S. state had their own "state team" (Part 3)

Hey again /r/mls I'm back with part three of the state soccer teams. For those of you seeing this for the first time, I began a project last summer where in a made-up universe, each U.S. state (commonwealth for the people in KY, MA, PA, and VA) had their own state soccer team. I have done Part I revised a few weeks ago, and now I am on to part two!

To get read-up on everything, check out Part 1.

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

School List Help for well-rounded NY resident

Hi, any input on my school list would be great! Additionally, I’m interested in schools that have an emphasis on medical humanities.

State/Country of Residence: New York
Ties to other States/Regions: Michigan (childhood + undergrad)
URM?: No
Year in School: Graduated 2021
Undergraduate Degree: Neuroscience and Philosophy of Science
GPA: 3.97 cGPA, ~3.94 sGPA
MCAT Score(s): 513 (129, 124, 130, 130). CARS is my main worry. Because of when I took the exam, I only have one shot to apply to med schools (so I would rather apply to more than less). I do not plan on taking the MCAT even if I do not get into any med schools (biotech would be dope!)
Research Experience: 550+ hours in undergrad and ~3000 hours through my current role
Publications/Abstracts/Posters: 4 poster presentations and acknowledgments on a paper
Clinical Experience: About 750 paid hours from MA and a COVID-related role. 150 hours as a generic hospital volunteer
Physician Shadowing: About 125 hours total with a few surgeons and one FM doctor.
Non-Clinical Volunteering: 600 hours as a mentor for underserved and/or disabled folks
Other Extracurricular Activities: Apparently, I have some mad writing skills that have gotten me some cool awards and experiences
Other Employment History: 750 hours as a Physics TA. 350+ hours as a Sex Ed Educator
Immediate family members in medicine? (Y/N): No (first-generation college)
A specialty of Interest: Optho or ENT - work/life balance is important to me and I like procedural based medicine
Interest in Primary Care (Y/N): Yes
Interest in Rural Health (Y/N): No

Antiquities in America: Curious article from 1858 claiming "Ruins of ancient cities, of immense extent; fortifications, mounds and pyramids; temples with walls built of hewn stown showing a refined taste in architecture... have flourished in this country, at a period far remote".

Antiquities in America

Throughout the entire length and breadth of the country – washed, as it is by the waters of two mighty oceans, and abounding in natural resources – enormous beyond what is impossible to conceive – we find much to admire in the aspect and beauty of nature; and whether we travel from the distant shores of Maine and New Brunswick to the golden sands of California, and the shores of the great Pacific, or from the bright crystal lakes of Minnesota to the orange groves of Florida, we behold throughout the immense extent, the features of nature, grand and beautiful in every form and aspect. The mineralogist, the geologist, the naturalist, the botanist, and even the antiquarian, have all a rich field here.

Strange as it may appear, America abounds in antiquities, so extensive, so beautiful and majestic, as to rival those of Thebes and Nineveh. Ruins of ancient cities, of immense extent; fortifications, mounds and pyramids; temples with walls built of hewn stown showing a refined taste in architecture – and adorned with human figures, beautifully executed; large altars ornamented with hieroglyphes, probably giving a record of those who reared them, but which no man has been able to decipher; remains of ancient palaces, with beautiful specimens of sculpture and painting, with many other marks of anceint greatness, prove to us that this is not a new world, but that a powerful empire existed at a very remote period of time, teeming with a population highly skilled in arts, and in a state of civilization far beyond anything we have ben led to conceive of the aborigines, previous to the discovery of the continent by Europeans.

The antiquities of America extent from the eastern shores of Maine and Massachusetts to the Pacific, and from the Great Lakes and British dominions, to Peru and La Plata in South America; in fact, throughout the extent of both continents. Immense forests grow over the ruins of large cities, and the gigantic size of the trees, with indications that other generations of trees sprung up and grew before them, proves that the ruins were in existence before the Christian era.

In every portion of the United States interesting ruins have been discovered. In the State of New York have been found sculptured figures of one hundred animals of different species, executed in a style far superior to anything exhibited by any of the existing tribes of Indians. The State of Ohio abounds in ruin

US Geography facts I just learned today
  1. The 180th meridian cuts through Alaska, making Alaska exist in both the Eastern and Western hemisphere. In a technical sense, Alaska is simultaneously the easternmost and westernmost state.
  2. Driving directly south from Detroit, Michigan actually takes you into Windsor, Canada.
  3. There are 34 states that have at least 1 town called "Springfield" in them. Just in Wisconsin alone, there are 6 towns called Springfield.
  4. The Guinness Book of World Records recognized the Roe River in Montana as the world's shortest river, running just 201 feet.
  5. Even though Los Angeles, California is a city on the Pacific coastline, Reno, Nevada actually sits west of Los Angeles.
  6. Los Angeles, California and Charlotte, North Carolina both sit on 35 degrees latitude.
  7. The most southern point in Alaska (Amatignak) and London, England both sit on 51 degrees latitude.
  8. The 5 Great Lakes are technically only 4. Lake Huron and Lake Michigan are actually one continuous lake body, but for some reason we decided to arbitrarily cut them in half and create two different naming conventions for them. We decided to separate them at a 5 mile wide bottle neck area of the lake (referred to as the Strait of Mackinac).
  9. Lake Superior is often credited as the largest fresh water lake in the world, but Michigan-Huron actually holds that title if you consider them as 1 single lake.
  10. The dispute between New Jersey and New York over the Statue of Liberty has been going on for hundreds of years. How current borders are drawn, Liberty Island is located entirely in New Jersey waters, but New York State claims ownership of most of the land inside Liberty Island.

Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB

Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"

I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual

So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes

r/unclejokes for dirty jokes

r/3amjokes for real weird and alot of OC

r/cleandadjokes If your really sick of seeing not dad jokes in r/dadjokes

Punchline !

Edit: this is not a post about NSFW , This is about jokes, knock knock jokes, blonde jokes, political jokes etc being posted in a dad joke sub

Nationalized American Rail Network: Revised Lore

You may remember that three years ago, I made this headcanon regarding a nationalized American rail network under the Progressive Party. Since then, I've revised it greatly to make it a bit more realistic.

One thing that doesn't change is that the 2ACW is still averted (I'm mainly going off the Kaiserredux mod here) after George Norris won the 1936 election and righted the boat.

Anywho, let's begin:

Prelude

With Huey Long and Jack Reed satisfied by a relief bill and William H. Murray, leader of the Old Democratic Party, arrested, President Norris turned to other matters. Chief among them was reviewing the United States Army, namely the debate over doctrine; ultimately, Leslie McNair's reforms involving massed artillery strikes was chosen.

Among Norris' priorities, however, was completely restructuring American society. He termed his reforms "capitalism with socialist characteristics", a fancy way of saying "social democracy". His biggest achievement was abolishing the archaic Electoral College, with all future presidential elections decided by the popular vote. But what usually gets lost among his achievements is the reorganization of the entire government.

One of the lesser examples was renaming the various departments to "administrations". For example, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) was renamed the "United States Justice Administration" (USJA), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) was renamed the "United States Agricultural Administration" (USAA, not to be confused with the United Services Automobile Association), and the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) was renamed the "United States Transit Administration" (USTA).

Formation of the United States Transit Administration

The formation of the USTA coincided with the nationalization of almost all forms of transportation in the United States. Each sub-administration was as follows:

  • United States Highway Administration (USHA), responsible for the highway system
  • United States Bus Administration (USBA), responsible for all bus services, both city and long-distance
  • United States Mass Transit Administration (USMTA), responsible for all streetcar and subway operations
  • United States Shipping Administration (USSA), responsible for all trucking and maritime trade, both ocean and river; this included nationalizing United States Lines and Matson, and all

I was almost upset that my coffee tasted like dirt today

but then I remembered it was ground this morning.

Edit: Thank you guys for the awards, they're much nicer than the cardboard sleeve I've been using and reassures me that my jokes aren't stale

Edit 2: I have already been made aware that Men In Black 3 has told a version of this joke before. If the joke is not new to you, please enjoy any of the single origin puns in the comments
