Potential threat of Chinese naval operations in the Atlantic

China is actively seeking to establish a naval base on the west coast of Africa and deploy their own Atlantic fleet. In numbers, they already have the biggest navy in the world, and this gap is expected to grow because of their production capacity. In a decade, their navy might not only be the biggest but also the most powerful in terms of actual capability. And if they decide to start sailing that fleet just 24 nautical miles off the US eastern seaboard, right next to the centers of US government and economy, I think this significantly increases the risk of scenarios like an EMP because of potential human response. In the heat of the moment, cooler heads do not always prevail.

I maintain that when and if the Chinese navy starts actively sailing around in the Atlantic, that will change how human beings in the US feel about things. Because of their superior production capacity, in a decade the Chinese could be the world's most powerful navy, or at least a major force.

China already claims maritime sovereignty over various islands and other areas even though international tribunals rejected their claims, and the US has made a point of conducting military fleet operations to show that we reject their claims and don't agree with the imperialism. China already makes a point of testing others in the same way as a show of power, and I think it would be quite foolish to assume they wouldn't continue to conduct themselves similarly in the Atlantic.

I'd like to hear what others think. Should this be a wake-up call for preppers to prepare more urgently for an EMP and/or disruption of our supply chain?

[Edited for brevity.]

CONCLUSION: Some excellent arguments were made as to why EMP or any direct action towards the US mainland is very unlikely to arise. It sounds like supply chain disruption continues to be the biggest concern to worry about, along with Chinese imperialism in Africa and its much longer term potential consequences. Thank you to those who took the time to explain their thought process on this.
