A list of puns related to "Olga Merediz"
When I first watched it I was convinced she both deserved it and would get it, but the fact that it did so poorly at the box office has me doubting the latter point⦠what do you think?
Just saw In the Heights and was blown away by her performance. I think a best supporting actress nomination could be coming her way. Thoughts ?

Encanto (2021) PreFilm Build Up Ft Tiffin
Despite having only only just released in theaters a few weeks ago, you can now watch Encanto online - just in time for the Holidays. To see the new animated film, you'll need a membership to the Disney Plus streaming service; it's exclusive to platform, which means you'll have to sign up if you want to stream Encanto.
Encanto: Cast and characters
Encanto is a musical comedy that showcases the characters of Hispanic origin, and therefore, makers have casted the actors by keeping their backgrounds in mind. Hence, fans will notice a predominantly hispanic voice cast which includes the following:
Stephanie Beatriz voices Mirabel Madrigal, Noemi Josefina Flores voices Young Mirabel, John Leguizamo voices Bruno Madrigal, MarΓa Cecilia Botero voices Abuela Alma Madrigal, and Olga Merediz has lent her voice for Almaβs singing performances.
Diane Guerrero voices Isabela Madrigal, Jessica Darrow voices Luisa Madrigal, Angie Cepeda voices Julieta Madrigal, Wilmer Valderrama voices AgustΓn Madrigal, Carolina GaitΓ‘n voices Pepa Madrigal, Mauro Castillo voices FΓ©lix Madrigal, Adassa voices Dolores Madrigal, Rhenzy Feliz voices Camilo Madrigal, Ravi-Cabot Conyers voices Antonio Madrigal, Maluma voices Mariano Guzman, and Alan Tudyk voices Pico.
So, how much does it cost? We've got the full details for the cost of a sub in your region below, but fortunately, it's pretty affordable either way. A Disney Plus subscription doesn't tend to cost much more than a couple of coffees, and unlike films such as Black Widow and Jungle Cruise that launched earlier in 2021, there's no extra paywall (known as Premier Access) locking you out of being able to watch Encanto online. If you have a membership, you can login now and stream Encanto right away.
Instead of predicting how the actual Oscars will go down in this post Iβm going to predict how the poll I post for this sub and r/Oscars to determine awards will go. The order they are placed is how many votes I think they will receive.

> Critics consensus: Lights up for In the Heights, a joyous celebration of heritage and community fueled by dazzling direction and singalong songs.
Metacritic: 80/100 (22 critics)
As with other movies, the scores are set to change as time passes. Meanwhile, I'll post some short reviews on the movie.
> The movie glows with an abundance of love for its characters, their milieu and the pride with which they defend their cultural footprint against the encroaching forces of New York development that continually shove the marginalized further into the margins. The resilience with which the characters claim their place in the fabric of city life is exhilarating.
David Rooney, The Hollywood Reporter
> And so this vivid and revitalizing work of cultural memory couldnβt be more at home in the movie theaters that itβs willing back to life. It leaves you so grateful that someone kept the lights on and preserved the honey-sweet (and slightly embarrassed) vertigo that sweeps over your whole body when you sit in a dark room and surrender to a good musical. All you have to do is see it for yourself. As Usnavi would say: βCβmon! Letβs go!β
> So if In the Heights hits different this summer than it might have last year, or 10 years ago, itβs because weβre watching it in a different world. The chorus of paciencia y fe β patience and faith β has a different resonance. The need to assert dignity in small ways, to actively not disappear, feels new. Thatβs the mark of a vital work of art: that it has something new to say each time someone is willing to listen. I suspect weβll be listening to In the Heights for a long, long while.
> In The Heightsβ slice-of-life portraiture suggests a less ambitious undertaking than Hamilton, but it tells a story as expansive as that of a fledgling nation. Through both musicals, Miranda demonstrates how ingrained people of color are in this countryβs history: Before he reimagined a pivotal chapter in United States history with Black and Latinx

... keep reading on reddit β‘Got free advance tix through the ITH Twitter. This isn't a full review, just some thoughts I had after leaving the theatre. TL;DR: This is my new favorite movie of all time. As someone who's been a musical theatre fan for years, I can't believe how amazing this film is. Definitely an awards contender.
Only mild spoilers ahead, but I'll still add the tag.
The cast is basically perfect. Just the most talented, charismatic, grounded people I've ever seen. It's been said to death, but Anthony Ramos (Usnavi) is the name in tomorrow's papers. Leslie Grace (Nina), Melissa Barerra (Vanessa), and Corey Hawkins (Benny) are incredible. Olga Merediz (Abuela) should win every award forever. Lin-Manuel (PiragΓΌero) sounded actually pretty okay! He sure did hit that note at the end of Piragua! I definitely wish Jimmy Smits (Kevin) and Gregory Diaz IV (Sonny) had more singing to do. Absolutely loved Daphne Ruben-Vega and Stephanie Beatriz as Daniela and Carla, but I didn't really care for the new salon lady, Cuca (played by Dascha Polanco). I also liked Noah Catala as Graffiti Pete. His character is slightly more developed than it is in the stage show, which is to say: his character was developed. There are some other new characters who don't have a lot of screentime that I found enjoyable: primarily Patrick Page (Pike Phillips), Mateo GΓ³mez (Alejandro), and the little girl who plays Usnavi and Vanessa's kid whose name I can't remember.
Most of the songs in this movie are now my definitive versions. The lyrics and score are changed a lot, usually for the better given the new medium. I'm bummed about some of the more Abuela-and-Rosario-focused songs getting axed, but Paciencia y Fe and both Benny and Nina duets make up for that in spades. Only songs I didn't really love were Blackout and Alabanza. Blackout made some weird changes to the story: some understandable, others not (why is Usnavi a dick to Vanessa? why does he never apologize?) and I was already crying too hard post Paciencia to feel anything more about Alabanza. I did like that it started like dialogue, though. Some personal highlights include In The Heights, 96,000, Paciencia y Fe, When You're Home, Carnaval, and No Me Diga. I also liked the use of some Finale moments as underscore/transitional music since the song itself is a little different.
I don't think I've ever cried as hard at a movie before. I was basically sobbing by the end of the opening number, and a snotty tear-stained mess after Pa

For me, In The Heights 4K is split into 2 parts, (concerning the transfer). Pre-Black-Out, and "The Blackout". I'll explain.
I'll talk about the first part of the movie. The picture looks very good. It's been color graded well. Blacks are slightly raised, but I really like the look. The color isn't fully saturated. Again, another look I like, looks less digital.
The transfer at this point looks very good. We guessed the bit-rate was at least 60+ (on ave
... keep reading on reddit β‘Am I the only one who felt that the movie wasn't as good as everyone makes it out to be?
I saw In The Heights in 2010, two years after it won the Tony. I was the biggest LMM fan in my teenage years and knew about this movie for years. I know we were all skeptical when it was getting traded around and when the Weinstein company had it until Lin bought it back (I believe?).
Anyways, one thing that I believe that the movie got wrong was the discussion of racial justice. A lot of the characters like Nina and Sonny got a bit more background on their characters than in the movie. There was ample discussion on what it meant for Sonny to be undocumented but there was no real justice or resolution to his struggles.
In fact, at Daniella & Carla's salon, Daniella makes a long speech about how our people were on ships and the history/struggles we've faced for centuries. Yet, this is in juxtaposition of them traveling to the Bronx for her new salon. The movie posed discussion on struggles without acknowledging true roots of these problems unlike the musicals. The "sense of community" that is ever-present in the musical is lacking in the movie and instead feels like a gentrified, neoliberal version of itself. This is on par with LMM seeing as he has taken to things like casting people of color in a musical about the foundations on U.S. history (which is inherently racist and should be discussed as such for sake of anti-revisionism).
In The Heights, as much as it hurts to say, feels as though it was created for a white audience and discusses issues of racism without proposing ways in which we, as people of color, communities of immigrants find ways to move forward in our everyday that exist outside of the white perspective.
That being said, Olga Merediz carried this film and this post is in no way against her amazing performance.
Look, I know thereβs been a lot of In the Heights posts but I have to ask... what do you guys think this will get?
Personally, I think Olga Merediz will be a force to be reckoned with all year, and I think SAG Ensemble and PGA are pretty likely given they both fell for Crazy Rich Asians and this film fits a lot of their criteria. Also, I expect Critics Choice to love the film. And Globes wouldβve gone nuts over it, I think. So at that point, is it getting Oscar noms so far fetched. I think Picture, Supporting Actress, Editing, Cinematography and Sound are all within reach.
So what are your thoughts?
This is an early as fuck prediction but I think Olga Merediz is taking home best actress. I said the same thing the moment I saw Minari concerning Youn Yuh Jung. It's possible this film gets lost in the shuffle later on but I think Warner Brothers knows they have a possible awards juggernaut on their hands with this one in the acting categories. Obviously I haven't seen Dune yet but I'm not expecting anything super amazing performance wise there. I think they push Dune for all the technicals and Best Picture. In The Heights will probably see more love in the acting and music categories and also Best Picture.
But back to my original point, I think Olga is going to be at least nominated if not win. I'm also seeing her as the best shot of this film winning anything.
Lin Manuel Miranda has three other films coming out this year so they can award him in other ways. As much as I like the script, I don't see it winning for Adapted. As far as the other acting categories, I see nominations but outside of Olga I'm not seeing a win. First off, Best Actress is off the table because there really isn't a lead actress here. I guess you could say Melissa Barrera is a lead since she gets a lot of scenes with Anthony Ramos but even then that's kind of pushing it. Also I get the feeling this is going to be a VERY competitive category this year. A Latina woman is getting nominated for Best Actress this year but it won't be anyone from this movie. Anthony Ramos is getting a nomination no doubt but Denzel Washington is in a movie that isn't an action film this year. So we already know he's going to be sucking up a lot of air. Even if the movie itself is total ass Denzel has managed to get nominations for bad/average movies before. So he might take that fifth spot Ramos might otherwise take. Supporting Actor isn't a category this film has much of a shot for. I like Jimmy Smits in general and if there were any justice he'd have a couple awards by now but he ain't winning nothing for this film unless this year turns out to be VERY weak I just don't see it. He might get nominated if they Academy just loves the film and nominates it for everything La La Land style. Corey Hawkins isn't given enough to do to justify even a nomination.
John Chu probably needs to direct at least one more good movie before anyone feels comfortable even nominating him for Best Director. Reputation does matter among the Academy and of course you have your Adam McKays and Todd Phillpses as of late, t
... keep reading on reddit β‘Watched the movie... saw the original Richard Rogers way back in '08.
I remember those 13 years back, Olga Merediz performance of Pacencia Y Fe in the theater and a line that really shook me
"The Birds They Fly Away, Do they Fly to La Vibora?" - which incidentally has been left out of the movie version due to changes in plot, although not necessarily in the underlying story.
Even today, i've been looking for any commentary that LMM might have made about the inclusion of the imagery of the line about the Birds.
Pacencia Y Fe ends differently in the movie - its more of a "at death's door" commentary / happiness of achieving her own sueΓ±ito , as she falls asleep watching all her "grandchildren" huddled together in a room enjoying each others company.
The Broadway rendition of Pacencia Y Fe seems a little more tortured. Mostly her contemplating on what to do after having won the lotto.
Still got questions about that line though -> "The Birds They Fly Away, Do they Fly to La Vibora?"
Is she........
1.) Thinking about her own current circumstances - that she has an opportunity to leave Washington Heights with Usnavi? In fact, LMM's use of " Now do I leave or stay? " was to be a very explicit statement about leaving with Usnavi...... until he and John Chu realized it makes for a better "at death's door internal conversation" scene - changing the leave/stay to be about life and death.
...or is it....
2.) Suffering from that old "Ni AquΓ, Ni AllΓ‘" (Neither Here Nor There) any immigrant might feel. Both the Broadway and movie versions of Abuela seem very in touch with her childhood - for instance she took the Blackout to be an opportunity to see the stars she could back in Havana but not normally in NYC. And Pacencia Y Fe starts off with her reminiscing about chasing the birds in a Courtyard in La Vibora.
This way of looking at it makes the line feel a lot more painful. As if Abuela is longing for a time, country, and a past she can't return to...... winning ticket or not.
Any thoughts (or any quotes from LMM) would be most appreciated
To sum it all up: I have a feeling this film will be divisive among fans but in my personal opinion, it is absolutely gorgeous and one of my new favorite films. It captures the spirit of the original production perfectly while also being a COMPLETELY different beast. Iβll split my thoughts up into 4 sections: Story, Cast, Music, and Visuals. I will avoid spoilers as much as possible simply because this really is something that should be watched fairly blind.

Posted this yesterday in r/oscarrace but thought I should post on here too for some added discussion. Instead of predicting how the actual Oscars will go down in this post Iβm going to predict how the poll I post for this sub and r/oscarrace to determine awards will go. The order they are placed is how many votes I think they will receive.

With Cannes starting tomorrow I thought it would be a good time to post my predictions for the next ceremony. Iβm prepared for most of these to be wrong. I had a gut feeling on Nomadland winning Best Picture early on last year but I donβt feel any sort of feeling like that this year which makes this year feel like it could go in many different ways to me.

Got free advance tix through the ITH Twitter.
