I looked up in a tree and saw what looked like a falcon at Old Reynella today
Iris Rita Braidwood travelled to Australia from her native England in March 2003 to visit two of her married daughters who lived in the country. The 76 year old, who most commonly went by Rita, was a mother of 9 children, and grandmother to 21.
Rita was last seen by family as she was dropped off by her daughter in Croydon Street, Cronulla, for a shopping trip. Cronulla is a southern beach-town in the suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia (map for reference). The Croydon Street mall, where Rita was dropped off, is a busy strip of shops frequented by locals and visitors alike, near to a number of beaches in the Cronulla area. Rita failed to meet her daughter later that day to be picked up as arranged, as has not been seen by family since.
Four witnesses reported seeing Rita on the afternoon she went missing and the following day, showing no signs of distress. Two men reported seeing Rita on the walking track near Wanda Beach, around a 15-minute walk from the Croydon Street mall at which she was dropped off, on the afternoon she disappeared. The men reported she was carrying her handbag and appeared in no sign of distress. The next day, tellers at the ANZ and Westpac banks in Cronulla believe they served Rita, who was trying to purchase British Pounds. One of the tellers reportedly viewed Rita's British passport, and made a note of her name due to a family connection to a town named Braidwood. An inquest in 2006 questioned how Rita could have appeared to the tellers on the second day of her disappearance without looking dishevelled, dirty or disoriented despite the fact she would have had to have spent a night on the street. There have also been no reports of Rita asking any passer-by's for help or directions. There have been no reports of Rita since the second day of her disappearance.
The night prior to her disappearance, another of Rita's daughters had supposedly confiscated her credit card due to the fact she had been spending too much. In the February prior to her disappearance, Rita had supposedly attempted to put a $48,000 down-payment on a house in Cronulla, but had used an incorrectly labelled cheque (and was thus refused). Background:
Johanne Elizabeth "Bertha" Schippan was the youngest child in the large Schippan family, and was aged between 12 and 14 at the time of her death. For the sake of this write-up I'll say she was 13. The family consisted of parents Matthes and Johanne, 24/25 year old sister Mary, and several other siblings, but I cannot confirm exactly how many. Two of her brothers, Wilhelm and Gustav, were home at the time of Bertha's murder, but I don't know exactly how old they were. The Schippans lived in the South Australian farming community of Towitta, about 115 kilometres north-east of Adelaide.
The Schippans were a staunchly Lutheran family, known to be hard-working, close, and maintaining their German language and customs. Matthes was said to have a stern demeanour and was strict in disciplining his children.
The murder:
On December 31, 1901, Matthes and Johanne travelled to visit relatives in Eden Valley, about 20km away. They left Bertha at home with her older sister, Mary, and they both went to bed at around 8pm. Gustav and Wilhelm slept in a galvanised room attached to one of the farm sheds, about 90 metres away from the house. The other siblings were not at home, I am unsure why. Some sources say they were away working.
Gustav and Wilhelm were awakened by Mary's screams about two hours later; she'd woken to a bearded man lying on top of her in her bed. Other sources say that it was Bertha's screams that woke Mary first. Either way, Mary ran to the shed wake her brothers, leaving 13 year old Bertha alone in the house.
Wilhelm and Gustav ran to seek help from a neighbour, who refused to assist them. They then ran 1 kilometre to the home of District Constable Lambert. It is unknown what Mary did during this time.
When the group returned to the Schippan house, they discovered a violent scene in several rooms, and Bertha lying in a pool of blood inside the home. Her throat had been slashed five times from ear to ear, and she had been stabbed up to 40 times. There is no mention anywhere of a sexual assault.
Matthes and Johanna Schippan hurried home when they heard of Bertha's death, and it was Matthes who formally identified her body.

A few hours ago if I turned my head a certain way I could hear a (very quiet) sound that sort of resembled a high pitched whine mixed with a buzzing/whooshing noise. It was only in that certain direction though. I lifted my hand up to my ear to move my hair off of it and the noise got louder (still pretty quiet though). I moved my hand from ear to ear, away from my ear and back again and I couldn't hear the noise when I moved it away from that ear, so I worked out that the sound was coming from my right hand. I've always had better than average hearing but this is weird.
I've been trying to find info online for the past hour but come up completely empty handed.
Is this a hallucination or something? Is my weird hearing picking up on something? Is there something in my ear or is it possible that my hand is actually making a buzzing noise? Could someone please help me work this out because it's 1.30 in the morning over here and this is really starting to freak me out.
