Possible storyline implications for the next NWA Women’s World Championship match
Given that Riho defeated Serena Deeb last night in the tournament, she’s earned an NWA Women’s title shot.
However, I can’t help but notice their connection to the Super Elite (Kenny, G&A) and what storyline implications it might have.
Kenny helped mentor Riho and brought her into AEW, and before the pandemic, their connection was shown from the very first episode when Kenny saved her from Nyla.
But, Serena is also connected to the Super Elite, being aligned with Doc Gallows in WWE as part of the Straight Edge Society, pre-BC.
AEW has established that past histories in wrestling are canonical and I think utilizing these connections for a possible long-term feud and/or allegiance could be a big boost for the women’s division.
Personally, I think if they execute this angle at the NWA women’s title rematch, that Deeb should be the one to align with the super elite and Riho should split from Kenny, turning Deeb heel and adding another layer to the storyline of Don Callis turning Kenny’s closest friends away from him, like he’s doing with the Bucks at the moment. And also, Riho works better as a face imo and turning Deeb heel would further her character work.
