Selecting a dumbphone
Downgrading from an iPhone – the Nokia E61 is my current option, however I am just exploring if there is anything else.
The title says it all - with such a wide variety of old phones to choose from, I want you to pick your personal selection of 5 phones to get new people into this hobby.
I'll start:
- Nokia 3310. This is, of course, a no-brainer. Used 3310s are usually dirt cheap, easy to maintain and incredibly easy to use. For the price of a McDonald's Happy Meal, you're getting one of history's most iconic (and also most popular) mobile devices. A perfect opportunity to sneak a peek at this hobby and decide for yourself if you're into vintage phones or not.
- Sony Ericsson W595. Not the most iconic device from SE, but a true Walkman phone with an interesting design. They're pretty much everywhere and usually very affordable (even in good condition). Plus, there's a wide variety of colours and patterns to choose from.
- Motorola V3/V3i. Probably the coolest flip phone ever created by mankind. Usually pretty easy to find and decently priced. Just generally avoid the UK/chinese refurbished ones. Oh, and also only use the original charger.
- Nokia E71. A Blackberry-esque business phone with a metal body and Symbian OS. Usually, its predecessor E61 gets all the attention and hype, so the E71 often flies under the radar and is decently priced.
- Siemens S55. Siemens' most beautiful handset imho. The simplicity of a brick phone, but with a little bit of upper class chic like a chrome bezel and textured buttons. Plus, if you enjoy this phone, you could always invest in (probably) the coolest Siemens phone add-on down the line: The IQP-500 QuickPic camera!
Just want to showcase some of my collection of different Symbian era phones. Great memories of using them, despite the confusing UI versions and the clunkiness of old Symbian.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
