If anyone needs this information, Iβm 36 and my father-in-law just turned 53. My husband and I were in a relationship for six years and married for three. Admittedly, my FIL and I have never really liked each other.
My husband had cancer and committed suicide a little over a year ago, and I found his body. His father and him were extremely close. He was his fatherβs only child and his father had him when he was pretty young. His father has been very difficult to deal with this past year, unsympathetic to everyone elseβs feelings and needs. Iβve put up with it because I knew he was in a lot of pain. About a month ago, he made a comment implying that I didnβt try hard enough to save my husband when I discovered his body and I snapped. It led to a very ugly argument where he called me homophobic slurs and I brought his up past of being an addict and how his son had to be in foster care because of it. He said he didnβt want to see me ever again and I told him that the feelings mutual and he shouldβve been the one to kill himself, not my husband. We both struck a lot of nerves and I regret everything I said.
A little over a week ago, my FIL messaged me and said he relapsed, was going to βend everythingβ that night, and he just wanted to let me know βmy desire was going to be fulfilledβ and I could be happy again. I saw the message an hour after he sent it and panicked. I immediately went to his house and on the way I called 911. I tried to ring the front door and when nobody was letting me in, I disconnected the call and broke in. I found him in his bedroom, and he had a gun and was hysterical. He had it pointed to his head, and kept saying he wanted to see his baby again and he canβt take the hell anymore. I freaked out and wrestled him to the floor. It was a rough fight, but I eventually overpowered him and pushed the gun out of his reach. The police arrived shortly after that and only did I realize then that we were both bleeding and he needed an ambulance.
He gave me minor injuries like scratches and bruises, but I broke his arm, broke three ribs, and when I took him to the floor it cracked his skull. My FIL was placed on suicide watch and I reported what happened..
Today I found out that he checked out of the hospital and he wants to press charges against me for breaking into his house and assaulting him. He believes the argument we had before served as some motivation and the βattackβ was premeditated. I tried to call him but he is not re
