The Federal Republican Presidential Nomination of 1908 | Peacock-Shah Alternate Elections

The Federal Republican Party has remained the largest of the three national parties, yet has found itself in a series of razor-thin losses as uniting figures such as William McKinley scramble to rectify emerging internal divisions. With three famous progressives, two septuagenarian conservatives, and a civil rights leader throwing their hats into the ring for the party's nomination for the presidency amidst an expansion of the primary system, the stage has been set for a long anticipated contest.

#The Candidates

Theodore Roosevelt: 50 year old New York Governor Theodore Roosevelt left the office of Speaker of the House in 1897 to become the second grand hero of the Pacific War, and while his star never shined as bright as Admiral George Dewey's, he was a symbol of American resolve to countless during the Aleutian Islands campaign, with copies of his speech rallying troops prior to the Japanese assault upon Kodiak Island circulated across the world, hailed as one of the greatest orations of the era. Roosevelt returned home to help lead the new Progressive Party of Aaron Burr Houston, winning election as Governor of New York in 1900 only to resign after weeks in office to join the cabinet of President Dewey as Secretary of the Navy, where he would serve as the administration's chief hawk and play a key role in the temporary split with Germany over Venezuelan debt. Yet, Roosevelt's prior support of Great Britain has evaporated since the Invasion of Mexico, with Roosevelt praising German support for American and Porfiriato troops. Roosevelt runs as a strong supporter of the Mexican War and of imperialism generally, adding to that his appeal as a leading progressive, having even endorsed the traditionally Farmer-Laborite proposal of land value taxation. Additionally, Roosevelt once tacitly remained in the dry camp on the issue of prohibition, while finally shifting to support its repeal and local temperance, giving him appeal to every faction within the party on the issue. Roosevelt's supporters herald him as a uniting figure to reclaim the progressive mantle for the party, while his opponents such as Mark Twain deride what they view as his cult of personality.

Robert M. La Follette: 53 year old Wisconsin Senator and former Vice President Robert M. La Follette entered Congress at age 27 and quickly rose to become a lieutenant to the marshal of Federal Republican progressivism, Speaker John D. White, carrying the mantle to the governor's office, wher

A Summary of President William Randolph Hearst's Term (1905-1909) | Peacock-Shah Alternate Elections

Portrait of William Randolph Hearst, 23rd President of the United States

Administration:

Vice President: John Nance Garner

Secretary of State: William Jennings Bryan (1905-1906 (resigned)), John Tyler Morgan (1906-1907 (died)), John Temple Graves (1907-1909)

Secretary of the Treasury: Thomas L. Hisgen

Secretary of War: John Temple Graves (1905-1907 (promoted)), Charles S. Thomas (1907-1909)

Attorney General: John K. Shields

Secretary of the Navy: William Gibbs McAdoo (1905-1906 (resigned to take office as Chairman of the Federal Reserve)), Reuben R. Lyon (1906-1909)

Secretary of the Interior: Reuben R. Lyon (1905-1906 (promoted)), George Turner (1906-1909)

Postmaster General: James A. Reed

Secretary of Agriculture: Milford W. Howard

Secretary of Labor: John Ford

Despite his differences over the issue of prohibition with former Farmer-Labor nominee William Jennings Bryan, Hearst considered an appeasement of the still-powerful force in the party to be a necessity for party unity, and focused on their agreement in opposition to the British Empire to appoint Bryan as Secretary of State. The Pettigrew wing of the party was denied appeasement whatsoever, with Hearst viewing Eugene Debs and others as undermining his own candidacy, while the rest of the cabinet was made of Hearst allies. 46 year old Massachusetts businessman Thomas L. Hisgen was selected for the Treasury Department, with Tennessee Judge John Shields chosen for the Attorney Generalship. The fiercest Senate battle would arise over the nomination of John Temple Graves, a pro-lynching editor from Georgia, for the position of Secretary of War. With the Senate's two black members, George Henry White of North Carolina and John R. Lynch of Mississippi, leading the opposition to Graves. Nonetheless, the appointment was narrowly confirmed with the intervention of Vice President Garner on the behalf of Graves.

William Gibbs McAdoo, an ally of Hearst closely tied to Georgia Federal Republican leader Woodrow Wilson, was chosen as Secretary of the Navy in the closest Hearst came to appointing a member of the other party. James A. Reed, the independent Mayor of Kansas City, Missouri who endorsed Hearst, was chosen as Postmaster General. Alabama's controversial Governor Milford W. Progress Report 10: New England Part 2

Hello all, this is Kennedy here to welcome you back to New England for PR part 2! New England development happened mostly over the summer and I have finally gotten around to polishing it enough to write this. Since the beginning of the fall, South France has been my main focus, and hopefully there will be more to report on that front soon. There are some things left to fill in here in New England, but I am very happy with where the tag is right now.

Last time, we discussed the political situation in New England up until the 1953 elections, and briefly touched on the New England economy which is doing very well, and the New England Armed Forces which are not. This PR will talk about the political situation through the end of our 0.1 content (now 1956). You will still be able to elect a President in 1957 but there will be no content for them in 0.1. We will also discuss the economy decisions which I teased previously, as well as the Armed Forces trees.

The 1953 Elections

To refresh you all, the 1949 elections were between Republican Raymond Baldwin, running for a second term, and Democrat W. Averell Harriman running to unseat him. While Harriman is favored, Baldwin can win. The Democrats are going through a transition in this time, as I outlined in the last PR, and are becoming more socially liberal and the center-left/liberal party we generally consider them to be today.

The Republicans will run Governor of Upstate New York Thomas Dewey as their nominee. Dewey is more liberal than Baldwin, aiming to increase education funding, trimming the bureaucratic fat, and improve the efficiency of the government. While he is fiscally conservative, he is definitely to the left of Baldwin.

The Democrats will either re-nominate Harriman for a second term, or nominate Herbert Lehman, senator from Upstate New York. Lehman would be the first Jewish President of New England or the United States, and represents the Democratic old guard in New York. The Democrats also plan on heavily expanding education spending, taking it further than the Republicans, and plan on growing New England’s reputation as having the

A Summary of President George Dewey's Term (1901-1905) | Peacock-Shah Alternate Elections

George Dewey, 22nd President of the United States of America.

Administration:

Vice President: Robert M. La Follette

Secretary of State: Thomas B. Reed (1901-1902 (died)), Grover Cleveland (1902-1905)

Secretary of the Treasury: William F. Vilas

Secretary of War: William O’Connell Bradley

Attorney General: Louis Brandeis (1901 (appointed to the Supreme Court)), Frank D. Jackson (1901-1905)

Secretary of the Navy: Theodore Roosevelt

Secretary of the Interior: William Borah

Postmaster General: Myron T. Herrick

Secretary of Agriculture: Oscar Underwood

Secretary of Labor: Terence V. Powderly

Dewey’s cabinet was a diverse array of political proclivities. Former General Trades Union President and incumbent Secretary of Labor Terence V. Powderly, having served in the Trumbull, Houston, and George cabinets, agreed to serve in a fourth and remain as Secretary of Labor under President Dewey. Maine’s Thomas Brackett Reed was selected to serve as Secretary of State, bringing a conservative and anti-imperialist touch to things that would persist until his death in 1902, whereupon he was replaced with former New York Governor Grover Cleveland, a Liberal recently mired in a scandal involving his sister’s relationship with another woman. William F. Vilas was made Secretary of the Treasury, evidencing the administration’s shift from protectionist Federal Republican orthodoxy.

Anti-prohibitionist Kentucky Federal Republican William O’Connell Bradley was selected to serve as Secretary of War due to the intervention of Mark Twain, who vehemently protested Dewey’s initial intention to appoint Theodore Roosevelt to the post. Nonetheless, Roosevelt was placed at the Naval Department in a gesture of reconciliation to party Houstonians. Louis Brandeis was selected as Attorney General once more, while 35 year old Farmer-Labor Representative William Borah of Idaho was made Secretary of the Interior, a controversial choice publicly opposed by Federal Republican leaders such as William McKinley. Ohio anti-prohibition Federal Republican Myron T. Herrick and Alabama Liberal Oscar Underwood were granted the Postal and Agriculture positions, respectively.

With the politically inexperienced Dewey lacking many connections or legislative acumen, heightened by his belief in a weak executive, his cabinet and Vice President La Follette wielded large

Hello everyone, my name is Waffles Da Dog, and I am current lead developer for the TNO Submod, The Red Order: Last Days of Eurasia. In celebration of America's founding, we shall be exploring the lore as well as the first three years of gameplay for the United States of America in TRO. Before we begin our journey into the states, I first would like to personally thank the current America Lead Dev, StormSpark, who has completely built TRO America from the ground up and has written this amazing Development Diary, and finally Reina, our Head Writer who has painstakingly edited every piece of writing you will see today. With that out of the way, here is StormSpark with the rest of the diary.

Thank you Waffles, let us now begin our journey through these United States.

>"The more things change, the more they stay the same" - Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr

In 1932, the US was in a crisis. The Great Depression had been raging for 3 years and under the administration of former geologist Herbert Hoover not much seems to be getting better. People are out of work, increasingly go hungry, and live in shantytowns; with tensions only seeming to grow by the day. As the Democratic party gears up for what looks to be an incredibly easy election, they nominate New York Governor and former Secretary of the Navy Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Accepting the nomination after winning the first ballot easily against Speaker John Nance Garner and former Gov. Al Smith, he delivers an unorthodox acceptance speech calling for an entire reshaping of the country and economy and promises the American people, β€œa new deal”.

This is the first Point of Divergence. The Depression is slightly worse in TROTL due to further mismanagement under Hoover, resulting in FDR galvanizing the party with his campaign and winning on the first ballot. Having been nominated, it now comes time to pick a vice presidential candidate. Considering the weak challenge the South put forward at the convention but the necessity to keep conservatives who were wary about the New Deal’s programs dealing with unions and social services, FDR surprises the nation by picking businessman and well known Democratic backer Joseph P. Kennedy for the nomination. Kenn

Reboot Series 22: William McKinley

Party: Republican

Home State: Ohio

Term: 1897-1901

McKinley's administration had often been viewed as a failed one until the 1950s when he was seen as successful and strong, however in recent times people have reevaluated him and mixed receptions have came out of it. Many consider him a man of great intellect and authority, who helped form the America we know today. Others consider him no better than a tyrant, one who had disdain for the constitution and overreached his power for political gain. Whichever one you fall in, I do not blame you. He is such a unique, interesting and controversial figure that has many negative and positive qualities, and an evaluation of him can be fair no matter the conclusion presented.

DOMESTIC POLICY

Economy

McKinley's tenure, besides the foreign entanglements, was characterized by several economics decisions and reforms which would prove controversial. He turned his attention to the tariff, bankruptcy, gold and silver.

His first initiative was a protective tariff. McKinley hoped a high tariff would help gain more revenue for the government and could put an end to the high deficits created by the Panic of 1893. He knew that the strong Democratic opposition to tariffs would be an obstacle to run over, but with congressional sessions underway, his hopes were high. McKinley's biggest proponent was Nelson Dingley Jr., who was in favor of high tariffs as well and proposed a new bill (Dingley Tariff) to institute a high tariff. The bill passed with relative ease and fulfilled McKinley's wish, however he had more ambitions.

Next he looked to monetary policy, in which he advocated for the gold standard and strongly lobbied for it. His lobbying was successful, as he passed and signed the Gold Standard Act of 1900, which established gold as the only standard for redeeming paper money, stopping bimetallism (which had allowed silver in exchange for gold). Initially, he supported both gold and silver in hopes of attracting more support, however after his proposal for an international conference to officially condone bimetallism (proposed by France, the UK and the US, defeated by the UK due to it's strong opposition).

During the Spanish conflict, he passed the Bankruptcy Act of 1898 which involved bankruptcy to give companies an option of being protected from creditors. He also signed the War Revenue Act of 1898, authorized a tax on a wide range of goods and services, including amusements, liquor, tea, and tobacco, and r

A panorama of Hong Kong captured during the negotiations for the Treaty of Hong Kong.

The Treaty of Hong Kong

With most major powers having taken sides, the primary options for Treaty negotiation were Brazil, the British Empire, Egypt, or Belgium, with the British colony of Hong Kong being chosen after some debate, and negotiations would begin on the 5th of May, 1899.

The Japanese diplomatic delegation consisted of former Education Minister Ryuichi; former Foreign Minister Aoki Shuzo; Foreign Minister Komura Jutaro; former Ambassador to the United States Takahira Kogoro; Parliamentarian Inukai Tsuyoshi; former Prime Minister Itagaki Taisuke; former Foreign Minister Kuroda Kiyotaka; and former Prime Minister Ito Hirobumi, as well as a handful of minor diplomatic aids. Though not ultranationalistic, the Japanese negotiators were all supporters of expansion, yet chosen for their mix of pragmatic realism and support for further modernizations. The Siamese delegation was led by Foreign Minister and Prince Devawongse Varoprakar, Interior Minister Damrong Rajanubhab, and General Surasakmontri himself, while Black Flag Army leaders Tang Jingsong and Liu Hongfu were permitted to attend alongside declared Vietnamese Emperor Ham Nghi, while not being granted full recognition as a combatant; similar rules were imposed upon Russian observer Nikolai Golitsyn, German observer Theodor von Holleben, and the Korean delegation led by King Gojong himself. General Emilio Aguinaldo, Foreign Minister Pedro Paterno, Speaker of the Assembly Felipe Buencamino, and President Arsenio Cruz-Herrerra. The delegation was highly controversial, among the other delegations due to Japan's initial refusal to negotiate with the Philippines, and among Filipinos for the role the United States played in the selection of Houston allies Paterno and Buencamino, with many fearing that the annexation of the Philippines might be pressed at the negotiation table.

The Spanish delegation was small, including Conservative Party Parliamentarians Antonio Maura and Fransisco Silvela, as well as Radical leader Nicolas Sameron and former Prime Minister Emilio Castelar, who died several weeks into the talks. Finally came the American delegation. Led by Secretary of State Shelby M. Cullom, it included former Colorado Senator Henry Teller, a pro-Houston Farmer-Laborite; form

A Japanese artist's rendition of the Battle of Hawaii, circa 1897.

The Battle of Hawaii

Togo Heihachiro and his fleet reached Hawaii in December, making their first landing at Midway Atoll to connect to the Japanese forces already in the vicinity before travelling to Koloa on the island of Kauai, where Admiral Heihachiro would formulate his plan of engagement. His fleet surrounded Oahu, yet declined to directly attack the island held by Dole and American troops, instead focusing on laying in wait for the arrival of what had been George Dewey's and was now William T. Sampson’s American fleet while the Japanese Army under Kodama Gentaro focused on capturing Oahu. In a surprising move, Admiral Dewey had been reassigned from the Hawaiian fleet to a smaller naval force sent to the Southern Pacific to attack Japan’s possessions in Polynesia. With Sampson days away, Gentaro launched an assault on Keeau Beach, on the far west of Oahu, with 600 troops outnumbering the 346 militiamen of Dole and his allies, and capturing the beach by the end of the 17th of December. The next day, several hundred more Japanese troops landed on North Beach on the other side of Oahu, as those on Keeau marched north to cut the island in half. Yet, Dole was prepared, With 70 of his men, he took several Gatling guns and a two "potato diggers," recently created automatic weapons, and intercepted the Japanese forces advancing from Keeau at Trimble Road, leading to his plantation, which he suspected they aimed to attack. Opening fire from the bushes, his men were able to devastate Japanese ranks and prevent any attack on Dole's own property.

Surprised at the defeat, Gentaro sent 2,000 troops to Kawela Bay in the North of Oahu near the islands jungles, from which they advanced south towards the Dole Plantation, clashing with American troops during a second landing at Waialua Bay on the morning of the 20th.Japanese troops avoided attacking the Dole Plantation itself, instead clashing with his troops across the island as they worked to capture all but Honolulu and the Plantation. Dole himself largely retreated his forces to protect his plantation as the 21st dawned, leaving only 37 Americans to defend Honolulu against the advancing Japanese, with William T. Sampson’s Ameeican fleet only a day away. Hoping to capture the final stretch of Oahu's coast not in

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

1960 U.S. Election. CAHE/Confederates Divided

I forgot to mention, you guys will vote for both CSA and USA elections.)

Nelson D. Rockefeller won the Republican Primary in 1960 and is running as a Moderate Republican. He wishes for to continue to add more police and restore Order. He also said that he would support allowing of abortion, something that angered conservatives. This angered them so much, they elected a Canidate to run for themselves. Back to Rockefeller, He is also pushing for a reform to drug addicts, and as governor of New York, he passed a bill that made them go to voluntary Service. He also is supporting a Raise in the Minimum wage. He supports Capital Punishment and supports the United States remaining one of the Superpowers of NATO. He is under fire for his calls for more roads and more funding into infrastructure, and not giving a clear answer of who would pay for it. This has led conservatives to believe he is going to raise taxes. For them, this was too much, and the Conservative Party of America is currently running third party, as a push back. With his VP being Henry Cabot Lodge Jr, another noted East Coast Republican, some are wondering if this will alienate Midwest and great plain voters.

Nelson Rockefeller

John F. Kennedy won the Democratic primary, despite an early lead from Adlai Stevenson. Kennedy comes in as one of the youngest nominated presidents in recent memory and is running on Liberalism. He is running on a moderate Campaign and is currently the favorite for the 1960 election. Some wonder if Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. was selected to make Massachusetts closer, and it is rumored that Kennedy is working with the mafia, which he denies. He supports going into space, and unlike Rockefeller, is Anti-Abortion. He even called it Repugnant. He also is running on Economical Conservatism, which is widely popular due to the successes of Thomas Dewey. He selected Pat Brown to be his VP, and he supports Free Trade. Some Liberals are calling for another Liberal to run, but this movement quickly faded out. He supports some unions but is unwilling to go any farther than that. He says that the country needs a balanced budget, something that he will do.

Just because it's a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke

Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB

Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"

I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual

So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes

r/unclejokes for dirty jokes

r/3amjokes for real weird and alot of OC

r/cleandadjokes If your really sick of seeing not dad jokes in r/dadjokes

Punchline !

Edit: this is not a post about NSFW , This is about jokes, knock knock jokes, blonde jokes, political jokes etc being posted in a dad joke sub

Edit 2: don't touch the thermostat

{OC. Norfolk. SI} Tricolore of the Stars-A Azur lane Fanfiction:Chapter 25. Joint Operations Pt2

Notes

I am running quite late with my schedule on this one. Good thing I managed to get it out. eh? Here's another one for you.

The armor plates as fitted to Norfolk (Alsace) are enhanced with Magitech theirselves, which is a fancy way of saying that in touhou terms magical reagents are baked into the alloy's composition itself. or that they have been enhanced by some sort of enhancing ability. The result is to directly improve tensile strength which in turn implies a direct RHAe increase. The armor is rated for 1.2-1.3x against all threats. Note that Homogenous and Face Hardened armor respond differently to threats. With caps having issues with oblique homogenous (since they don't even hit face-first and denormalize. blunt-nosed penetrators without caps did mitigate this partially) while they destroy the hard faces of FHA armors. especially excessively thick-face ones. The T-34's relatively primitive HHS thin steel under attack from large-caliber penetrators can suffer shatter effects leading to the formation of a 'slab' being driven straight into the fighting compartment. which also impedes ricochet.

It should be noted there was also a composite version with NERA plates and a suitably sized destabilizer plate intended to knock off anything on the nose before damaging a incoming AP shell with sloped NERA (and its later. more energetic cousin like GaP NxRA polymer plates) plates consisting of a thick front plate. rubber and thin back plates intended to damage the projectile. sometimes to the point of ripping it in half before absorbing any incoming splinters with structural armor. However it didn't manage to join my adventure sadly enough. but perhaps that can change in the reviews.

A ceramic armor option was also considered and optimized against large-caliber threats with the intent of shatter and good multi-hit capability. but i haven't done the math so far and how strong the backing plate must be for slope.

Also keep in mind that the 50% penetration estimate is still a 50/50 rather than full protection. for full immunity the armor needs to be 7% thicker than the attacking projectile's maximum penetration.

"Hello?"-Someone speaking/"Hello"?-Norfolk's thoughts/'Hello?'-Radio comms?/Hello?-?

The Federal Republican Nomination of 1900 | Peacock-Shah Alternate Elections

In the aftermath of the largest conflict in American history since the Civil War, a wave of progressive legislation, the first federal civil rights legislation in a generation, and the highest tariffs in American history, incumbent President Aaron Burr Houston throws his hat into the ring for a third term as a popular yet inexperienced Admiral sees his sailor’s cap placed into the ring for him by enthusiastic supporters and a witty New Englanders bears the banner of conservatism.

Aaron Burr Houston: 46 year old incumbent President Aaron Burr Houston has led the United States to victory against Japan in the Pacific War through his second term, yet the senate failed to pass the expansionist Treaty of Hong Kong; while leading the progressive Federal Republicans to control the party in his first. Houston has presided over the passage of laws raising tariffs, regulating railroads, enforcing prohibition, fought for an amendment directly electing senators, and accepted civil rights legislation. Houston’s ally and hero of the Pacific War, Rough Riders Colonel Theodore Roosevelt, has worked to build a strong campaign for the President and ensure his renomination with appeals to every faction within the party, arguing to conservatives that Houston remains the party’s strongest candidate. Houston has argued that his progressive, expansionist agenda requires a third term to complete and has pointed to Presidents Winfield Scott and John Bidwell’s attempts at a third term to argue that there is precedent for such a campaign. While refraining from attacking the popular Dewey personally, Houston and his supporters have questioned the Admiral’s readiness for office and attacked both his vague views overall and concrete anti-annexation and anti-Chinese exclusion stances, and have been successful in winning nearly all expansionist conservatives in the party to their side, alongside the progressive leadership and pro-Houston Farmer-Laborites such as Henry Teller.

George Dewey: Considered the leading hero of the Pacific War and even β€œthe most popular man in America”, 62 year old Admiral George Dewey commanded the American Pacific Fleet at the Battle of Manila Bay, turning the tide of the war after the Japanese victory at the First Battle of Hawaii, and the Second Battle of Hawaii, where he conclusively won the war for the United States. Subject to a draft movement for the presidency, Dewey surprised many by taking a stand in opposition to imperialism, arguing th

The Pettigrew wing of the party was denied appeasement whatsoever, with Hearst viewing Eugene Debs and others as undermining his own candidacy, while the rest of the cabinet was made of Hearst allies.46 year old Massachusetts businessman Thomas L.

Howard, known for transferring the Italian term for French Boulangism "fascismo" into the English language as "fascism," a term Howard has used to describe himself. Hearst's New York ally John Ford, elected Deputy Mayor on the same ticket as Hearst's own election as Governor, was selected as
