1' Kickoff! Washington is in white going left-to-right, and Clemson is in orange going right-to-left!
1' GOAL! What an awful error by Sam Fowler (Washington)! Isaiah Reid (a potential homegrown for Charlotte FC) capitalizes on the error and gives Clemson the lead just 30 seconds into the match! Clemson 1-0 Washington
8' Charlie Asensio (Clemson) is carded for clipping on Nick Scardina, preventing him from getting the long pass from Achille Robin. A good opportunity for Washington.
9' Imanol Rosales' free kick (Washington) is mishit and bounces wide with no co

Welcome back to #MARCH SMASHNESS!
I would first like to apologize to anyone who used my simulation of the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight to fill out any second chance brackets. Let's just say it wasn't that accurate.
But now I'm back to take another crack at simulating the Final Four and National Championship Game!
#The Rules
Everyone is a Level 9 now. Whereas before I based the levels of the CPU on each team's seeding, this time around I figured if you're in the Final Four you're pretty good.
2 minute timer. Because college basketball has time and it allows for "buzzer beater" moments. Also, I didn't want to spend too much time on this.
All matches on battlefield.
The Smash Ball AND the Smash Meter are turned on. Because who doesn't love a little bit of chaos in March?
The Poison Mushroom is on. To represent teams potentially being affected by COVID.
The fighters representing each team remain the same from my previous post. I did my best to find some logic or reasoning for each representation, but the connections might sometimes be tenuous at best. I also did my best to select a costume for each fighter that best matched the school's colors.
#1 Gonzaga: Isabelle. Is a dog.
#1 Baylor: Banjo & Kazooie. A bear.
#2 Houston: Incineroar. This is close enough to a cougar and he's already Houston's colors. This is about as good as it can get.
#11 UCLA: Donkey Kong. Some of you are certainly reading this going "But Banjo is a bear, surely he should represent UCLA?" But unfortunately
... keep reading on reddit โกI'm just wondering who do most people think are some of the best teams without a title personally I'd probably have to say Oklahoma as they have made several deep tournament runs but haven't been able to get over the hump.
Think of this as the post game thread.

#Road to the Championship Game
Round | Duluth | Massachusetts |
---|---|---|
Regional Semifinals | 2-1 (OT) over BGSU | 4-0 over Harvard |
Regional Finals | 3-1 over Quinnipiac | 4-0 over Notre Dame |
National Semifinals | 4-1 over Providence | 4-3 (OT) over Denver |
#Quick Facts
This is the first ever meeting between the two teams.
Massachusetts is appearing in its first ever title game, coming off of a season featuring their first ever league regular season title and first ever Hobey Baker winner in Cale Makar.
Duluth is appearing in their third straight national title game, and is attempting to become the first team to win back to back titles since Denver in 04-05.
A Duluth win would be their third title overall. UMD is 2-2 all time in the championship game, with their other title coming in 2011 over Michigan.
A UMass victory would be the fifth first time champion this decade, following 2011 UMD, 2013 Yale, 2014 Union, and 2015 Providence. This would also result in a second consecutive national champion from Hockey East winning the NCAA title for the first time.
UMass is without F Bobby Trivigno following a suspension for a blindside hit to the head during the National Semifinal game vs Denver that went initially uncalled.
