I've created a complete 2020-2021 roster update for NBA 2k19 for the PC. All players have had their ages, years of pro experience, contract, attributes, and potentials update to be as accurate as possible as of today. I've also created a 2021 draft class which includes 75 real-life potential draftees. Again, I attempted to make this draft class as accurate as possible. This roster update and draft class can be found be searching for the online id "cbraz315."
I have never seen anything like this in a $60 video games. I think it's worth discussing where exactly in-game monetization is heading. I see predatory monetization particularly a problem in sports games like NBA and FIFA. I would say games like NBA and FIFA are marketed to "none typical core gamer" audience. And compared to other genres they do seem to be trying to pull off more, acting as sort of a test-bed before these elements are introduced over to the more core games audience. We saw this with Star Wars Battlefront 2 and it didn't turn out so well.
These I think games are often used to play-test what these companies want to do so this NBA ad is deeply concerning.

this is the ad that plays in NBA 2K19 during loading screens. The idea is that since the user spends close to a minute looking at a loading screen why not use the loading screens as ad space? Regardless of how fast you load the ad is unskippable. What if you're using an SSD on PC? NVMe or whatever is the fastest. It doesn't matter cz the ad remains on your screen. Serving such ads in mobile games is somewhat acceptable because the game is practically free to play. But now we are reaching a point where full priced $60 games could end up using unskippable ads.
The ad in question is for a FOX series called "Snowfall" which is a crime drama. It is ironic that the first thing we hear in the ad is "don't be greedy."
Are lines between freemium and paid no longer exist? How far can the publisher push the boundary? This is extremely disappointing.
GameStop has their deal of the day which is a $249.99 Xbox One X with NBA. They also have a trade in offer of bonus $50 running until tomorrow. An Xbox One S 500GB will net you $140 for example.
Iβd imagine they will run a Xbox One X to Series X trade in when it comes out so the money you pay to upgrade probably will come right back.

Edit 1: The free white controller with purchase of console stacks with this deal. Make this deal even sweeter.
This game, is by far, the worst example of micro transaction in-game.
And watching reviews you can really see which one cares and which one don't even mention it.
Prime example: IGN, not the first time they pulling it off, I believe most of you remember the 10/10 the fully bugged and uplayable games.
But this time, their review on NBA 2k19 has really crossed it, they mention the micro transaction once, for 2 seconds as a "side note", in addition to completly bad review from a guy who understand nothing about basketball, at all.
But, look at the bright side:

This game can set tone to which reviews are valid and which are bribed, when looking at this game review on a certein channel, you can decide if this channel is shit or actually know something.
So, for me, IGN out, Gamespot and Kotaku in.
Hello everyone!
My husband has been playing NBA 2k19 in our XBox One since the release of the game and yesterday when he tried accessing his My Career tab got the error mentioned in the title. We also saw this message in the XBox Help section "All multiplayer servers for NBA 2K19 will be shutdown as of 12/31/2020. After that time, all game functions requiring online servers will no longer function." Does that mean that he'll lose all his progress and won't be to access that part of the game ever again?
We've tried all the suggestions available online, including what is listed in this article, but nothing has worked.
Thanks for any insight anyone can provide.
NBA 2K19, where do I get started. My favorite 2K, ever, even more than 2K16. Listening to the soundtrack at 8PM listening to G Herbo and Jerreau, Travis and Miguel, really made me enjoy the game. The mechanics, the roster (being my first season of watching basketball regularly), the MyLeague, everything. You might not think this was the best 2K, and I can understand that, it did have its flaws. But for someone like me, just getting into the NBA and getting NBA 2K for the first time, you can imagine the fun I had when I loaded it up. I remember not knowing how to pronounce Giannis Antetokounmpo. I remember my first time playing the game and making my own character, to playing with LeBron James on the Lakers in Play Now and making my own NBA Finals in Play Now vs the Milwaukee Bucks. And then I discovered MyLeague. I played MyLeague like it was my job. Making MyLeague MyCareer's, to making a whole NBA in MyLeague.
So yeah, thanks 2K19, I'll remember you. 12/31/20 is gonna be a sad day in the community.
