A list of puns related to "National Outdoor Leadership School"
I am interested in taking a semester for the instructors course with the intentions to get a job with the forest service or a business that is in the field of educating/leading groups of people in the wilderness. I would love to hear individuals experience and if it's possible to get a job in this field.

I started volunteering as a troop leader because Girl Scouts is how I got my start in outdoor leadership. Outdoor skills really empowered me as a woman.. I didnβt need a man to do something for me, I could take care of myself.
Looking through the Brownie badges is so disheartening. Thereβs 9 outdoor badges which are fairly nonspecific and then 25 STEM badges with many being specific like robot race.
My kids (and other leaders) want to earn badges and so Iβve been going by the book and trying to infuse outdoor leadership in wherever I can but Iβm getting frustrated. Why isnβt teaching girls how to put up their own tent or identify plants or use a knife part of the curriculum?
A lot of people suggest I just move to Boy Scouts but I believe in Girl Scouts. I donβt want to be an after school science teacherβ¦ I want to teach girls to be able to go camping without needing a boyfriend or husband to rescue them.
BLUF: Participated in a special training program paid for by the government. Training days and travels days were past 8 hours. Not paid anything over 8 hours and received no instruction from program about this. I feel as if this is wrong but at the same time am afraid to beat the drum due to it being a special program that I was selected for.
I work at a military service academy and am a GS 9. I was selected to go to an Outdoor Leadership School this past summer by the leadership department. This department is outside of my normal department. This was for a group of personnel who had direct impact on our cadets and was a mix of Civilians and military folk. The goal of the course was to increase Leadership capabilities and provide instruction on how to influence our young cadets etc.
There was an application process for this program and a board selected who was chosen. This was a highly coveted training program and only a select few were chosen. The school is ran by a civilian entity, non-government/non-dod associated school.
The course was a week long:
7/27: Travel day/way over 8 hours/traveled out of state on airplane.
7/28: Training day/over 8 hours
7/29: Training Day/over 8 hours
7/30: Training Day/over 8 hours
8/1: Training Day/over 8 hours
8/2: Training Day/over 8 hours
8/3: Last Training Day/over 8 hours
8/4: Travel Day/over 8 hours
When I returned home, I contacted payroll and asked what I should put (if anything) for my weekend travels. They told me Comp Time. The pay roll administrator also told me that any time over 8 hours I need to put as OT.
I was out in the woods 24/7 on my training days/we slept out there also. When I spoke to the program leadership about this they said that they had no clue what I should put (and hinted that I should be thankful that I was selected for the program to begin with).
When I spoke to my own department supervisor he was not for sure if it would get approved or not if I put OT due to this being a special program that I was selected for and paid for by the government and also that my OT time would be coming from our department's budget not from the leadership department so it may not be paid at all. So I just stuck with putting Comp Time 8 hours on 7/27, 7/28, 8/3, and 8/4. For the weekday training days I just put regular 8 hours each day.
I feel as if this is wrong. Do you all have any suggestions as to what I should do, if anything? Am I wrong in thinking that this whole situation is kin
