With the Charlotte expansion draft tomorrow (at least as I type this), I decided it'd be fun to take a look back at every MLS expansion draft, from the beginning to today, and seeing what kind of players ended up taken!

There's a lot of names in the early versions, please bear with me, I will probably generalize most of those.

##1998: Miami Fusion & Chicago Fire

MIA PICKS: GKs Jeff Cassar and Scott Budnick, DFs Joey Martinez, Cle Kooiman, Matt Kmasko, Wade Webber, and Ramiro Corrales, DF/MFs David Vaudreuil and Kris Kelderman, MFs John Maessner and Nelson Vargas, FW Bryan Taylor

The bulk of Miami's wouldn't stay around beyond 1999. Corrales is arguably the most known of the group they selected, and he played a grand total of 3 games before being shipped to the MetroStars. Only Cassar and Vargas actually made it to the new millenium, and Vargas suffered a career ending injury that season while Cassar lost the starting gig to some kid named Rimando. Wonder whatever happened to him.

CHI PICKS: GKs Kevin Hartman and Zach Thornton, DFs Danny Pena, Francis Okaroh, Andrew Lewis, and Brian Bates, MFs Manny Lagos, Jason Farrell, Jorge Salcedo, and Diego Gutiérrez, FWs AJ Wood and Steve Patterson

Chicago, on the other hand, hit a home run. Hartman and Pena were immediately returned to the Galaxy for Chris Armas, who would make Best XI five times as a member of the Fire. They also got big name Jorge Campos in that deal, but Thornton beat the Mexican star for the #1 gig - and won Goalkeeper of the Year. The 35 year old Okaroh would prove to be a key stalwart of the league's second best defense as well, and Gutiérrez would join him in the defense (anchored by Defender of the Year Luboš Kubík) as Chicago won the double right away.

Most of the rest were pretty whatever. But getting, essentially, 4 pieces of a double-winning XI via the expansion draft (once you factor in the Pena/Hartman for Armas deal) is a win.

##2005: Real Salt Lake & Chivas USA

Only Brown and Williams managed to make it beyond 2005 for RSL. I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

TL;DR I have logistics questions for my trip related to rail. Questions and draft of plans farther down.

First time traveler to Japan. First time travelling internationally. Forgive my ignorance as a result. Hoping to go this June with wife and two elementary-aged daughters -- the stars aligned and we're all able to be off work and school for this time. Intimidated by the planning, probably should have done a trip smaller in scope, but might not be able to get this amount of time off ever again so I figured I'd make an adventure of it and explore a bunch of cities vs spending all my time in one region. If I ever come back, I'll probably do a smaller trip.

Below is the draft of my itinerary. It has four legs: Tokyo, Hokkaido, Kansai, Kyushu. For each, I've booked a (refundable) hotel in one city: Tokyo (Shinjuku), Sapporo (Odori area), Osaka (Dotonbori area), Fukuoka (Hakata). I've included a handful of things I'd like to see each day. Depending on the weather, the actual dates of the day trips from each "hub" may shuffle. Some cities I'm still trying to plan out what to see (marked TBD). I hope to post a more complete itinerary in the future.

For the days that require longer travel, I've noted what I believe to be the applicable JR Pass-covered travel based on what I could find in HyperDia, Japan Transit app, and JR timetables. My actual questions are at the bottom.

Long-winded post incoming. But first: an explanation.

My brother and I were talking ages ago about how it would be cool to see a sports league of wrestlers that forces them to wrestle for the superiority of their faction rather than personal gain. It's like if Survivor Series was the whole promotion--or, as I like to describe it, newLEGACYinc Stable Wars: The Promotion.

As the title semi-implies, the thing that pushed me to actually put this thing into action was this year's PWI 500, which gave us a straight-up list of the greatest wrestlers in the world today, organized in terms of strength and star-power. If there were to be a fantasy draft for wrestling, the PWI 500 would be a pretty great way to go about doing it, though it is flawed. Not only does it rely heavily on your previous year (NJPW's Kazuchika Okada is easily a top 10 draft pick IRL--if not top 5--but he didn't really kill it from June 2020 to June 2021 and was thus placed at 25), but it's also influenced by kayfabe and win/loss records from that year, meaning someone like Seth Rollins got picked in Round 3 and Bray Wyatt got picked in Round 5.

With that out of the way, let's get into

The (Out-of-World) Set-Up:

If you've ever played Fire Promoter or have bought the Entrance Craft DLC, you'll know all about the various fake promotions in the game, from the SWA to ROW to KOG. I used all 17 of the logos and team names given to me there and added "Takayama Empire" (from the 2nd Takayamania DLC) to make it a round 18 teams. Then, just for a little flavor, I gave each team a general manager (e.g. Vince McMahon for SWA and Tony Khan for NCPW) and a hometown (SWA in New York City and NCPW in Jacksonville, FL), though it ultimately wouldn't influence anything other than my head-canon. I know after the fact that Vince wouldn't have drafted the SWA team on purpose, though some teams (namely Empire and DFW) made a surprising amount of sense.

I put those 18 team names into a random order generator, set them on a list, and started drafting straight from the 2021 PWI 500. An hour of typing and double-checking later, and this is how things shook out:
