A list of puns related to "Nadao Bangkok"
Someone posted about GMMTV's BrightWin being put under COVID-19 quarantine. So I'd like to report that Nadao Bangkok, the producer of I Told Sunset About You, also released a statement saying one of its executives was tested positive for COVID-19 and, as a result, all employees and "actors who work closely with the infected individual" will be put under quarantine for 14 days. These actors' participation in all events during this period will be cancelled.

It will be seen if I Told Sunset About You season 2 will be affected and/or postponed (again).
Update - Nadao released another statement saying the production of I Told Sunset About You season 2 will continue by a "freelance team"
Does GMM Grammy have a monopoly in the BL industry in Thailand? Can anyone confirm this?
So I wrote quite a lengthy answer to last week's question about Thai school uniforms, which I thought might be worth expanding on with some example pictures as their use in shows often provides context that international viewers wouldn't recognize. This post contains screen captures from Bad Buddy, The Best Story, Brothers, 'Cause You're My Boy, Dew, EN of Love, 55:15 Never Too Late, Friend Forever, Great Men Academy, Hormones, I Told Sunset About You, Love by Chance, The Love of Siam, Love Sick, Love's Coming, Make It Right, My Dear Loser, My Gear and Your Gown, Second Chance, 7 Project, The Shipper, SOTUS, and The Yearbook, so a minor spoiler warning if you want to avoid seeing anything from them. (Yes some of these aren't BL, but they're likely within the BL viewer's sphere of interest.)
But first, here's a summary of the Thai school system. There are twelve years of basic education (after kindergarten): six years of primary school (prathom or P.1-6), and six years of secondary school (mathayom or M.1-6), the latter of which is divided into three lower and three upper years. The age range roughly corresponds to the US system, so the years P.1-6 will often be translated as grades 1-6 and M.1-6 as grades 7-12. Most stories set in school will take place during the upper secondary years, which is often translated as high school (though this is rather approximate as it spans three years rather than four). Students typically enter M.4 aged 15 going on 16, and graduate at the age of 18 (or nearing it).
School uniforms are almost universally compulsory, used by all but a few alternative schools (university will be discussed further below). They mostly follow a very distinctive form, which has barely changed since the end of World War II, as there's a default format that's mandated by law and followed by most schools (though schools may elect to specify their own style of uniform). There are official industrial standards that govern the material, thread count, etc. of student uniforms that can be sold, and an entire industry is built around them.
For boys, the (default style) uniform is mostly the same across all levels, and consists of a white short-sleeved button-up shirt, shorts (in either black, royal blue, navy, or khaki), a belt (brown or black), socks and shoes (brown with khaki shorts, white socks an

It will be a bit long but please bear with me if you think this may help clarify things you wish to know. A warning though - this discussion will be a bit uncomfortable for some of you to hear.
The Roots of Thai BL
It is crucial to remember that the Thai BL series or "Series Y" have their roots in online Y novels. Y simply stands for Yaoi. The Thai Y culture can very much be called an offshoot of the Japanese Yaoi, directly inheriting many things from the Japanese one. As said many times in this sub, the Thai Y novels are mostly written by young straight women for readers who are young straight women, sometimes as young as early teens.
Novels of Until We Meet Again, Theory of Love and 2gether
The Other Genre
The Thai BL did NOT have its roots in gay or LGBT work. That's another genre, which has its own history, preference and narrative, and the series in this genre such as Gay OK Bangkok and Diary of Tootsies are called "gay series" or more recently "LGBT series". Not surprisingly, the gay contents are created mostly by gay men and consumed mostly by gay men.
There is of course a somewhat blurry area between the two genres, especially as BL has expanded rapidly. I Told Sunset About You, by the Thai standard, would be a gay or LGBT series, not a Y series. But yet viewers often group it together with the Y series.
Watch Gay OK Bangkok if you have time. It's good.
Let's Talk About the Thai Y Novels A Bit More
Thai Y novels typically begin their lives as online stories written by amateur writers who treat it as a hobby that they are passionate about. They are posted one chapter at a time, free for anyone to read. They are not conceived as full-blown conventional novels like in Western countries, but more like some niche stuff like their Japanese Yaoi ancestors. If an online story becomes popular, it will often be picked up by a publisher who will make a physical book. If it's extremely popular, it will be picked up by a producing company and adapted into a series.
Now, the series screenwriters will try not to make too m

But a lot of detail on what developments happened in those intervening years remains quite sketchy. Here's my attempt at laying things out, both from memory and what I've been able to find online... Please don't take it as a definitive history.
First, though, a bit of background...
Yaoi, a Japanese import popularly known in Thai as "Y", became established as a subculture in Thailand, mainly among young females (known as "sao Y", the Thai term for fujoshi), in the early 2000s. Most media was initially in the form of doujinshi manga, and remained pretty much underground. (Many have told of how works had to be found in hidden unlabelled shelves in stores, and how their rising popularity even led to a reactionary government crackdown in 2005.) Gradually, online communities developed, and as "fic" writing - a term encompassing both fanfiction (mostly centred around shipping J-pop/K-pop idols) and original web novels - saw increasing popularity generally, a genre of "fic Y" emerged as well.
Meanwhile, gay relationships and identities (as opposed to stereotypes of kathoey or ladyboys, which Thai society had been familiar with for much longer) were gaining wider acknowledgement in society and general discourse. There was an emerging interest in stories depicting gay relationships, which led to the establishment of community websites such Thaiboyslove.com (2006). As the scope and audience of these stories very much overlapped with fic Y, the lines separating the genres became quickly blurred as communities of sao Y and gay readers merged together.
However, portrayals in the media lagged behind these developments, and depictions of non-heterosexual characters in TV and film remained mostly limited to kathoey (ladyboys), mainly as comic characters. While there were exceptions - the series Rak Paet Phan Kao* (2004-2005) included a male/male side couple, and some indie films (the award-winning Tropical Malady among them) explored gay issues - these remained isolated cases or outside of mainstream attention.
Which is partly why The Love of Siam caused such a stir upon its release. Though it came a few months after *B

I happened to watch this discussion with some key figures in the Thai BL industry (Studio Wabi Sabi's Director New*, GMMTV's* Director Off*, EverY Publishing House's* Ms. Namfon*, and* James from his YouTube reaction channel Nang Na Rong). The whole thing is incredibly insightful on the Thai BL industry in many aspects - history and roots, customer expectations, commercial aspects, etc. So I'll sum up some of key points they discussed (not everything they said though - it's too much) with some info added by me for the context.
- Yaoi have existed in Thailand as manga and novels. In the not-so-distant past, it was very niche and hidden from the mainstream. A fan had to ask the bookstore's staff when they wanted to buy a Yaoi manga and then they would be led to a specific, somewhat hidden shelf for this materials, according to James.
- There have been "male-male" contents in the Thai tv for a long time. They were often side couples in straight dramas that gained their own fan bases, but such fan bases did not have modern platforms like Twitter to express their feelings or popularize them. The most notable one is from Rak Paed Pan Kao (2004, on Channel 9). So the industry kind of knew there was a market for this but they didn't know how to capitalize on it.
- At one point, Hormones (2014, on GMM One, by Nadao Bangkok) paved way for a new breed of teen series. Hormones itself has a Y couple (Y stands for Yaoi, and to a lesser degree Yuri). In the next year, Love Sick (2015, on Channel 9) was released and was considered the first true "Series Y" in Thailand. Love Sick, however, was marketed as a teen series. Viewers were often confused as they had expected Love Sick to be similar to Hormones but they ended up adoring Love Sick and its unique charm.
- Director New, who was involved with Love Sick, said Love Sick led to the birth of many fan bases inside and outside Thailand. He specifically mentioned China, somewhat suggesting that it was the first solid fan base for the Thai Y content. After that, the fan bases emerged in Japan, Korea, South America and the US. Some fans flew to Thailand just because of the series.
- At GMMTV, Director Off said they noticed the potential of Y series and first experimented with it by putting male-male couple Pick-Rome (played

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.

I'm very curious about the different studios that produce BL shows and if we can get a sense of the styles and types of shows a studio is likely to produce. But I've had a hard time getting a sense of which shows are produced by which studio. Is there a list somewhere? (When there are little graphics on a show, I'm not even sure which is the studio and which might be advertising for a sponsor!)
What do you all think of the different studios and the types of shows they produce?
Here are some of my guesses, but I have no clue if I'm right! I know I've made a ton of mistakes on this list, but could you help in the comments? What are the different studios? And which shows do they make?
