Take Care was officially released on 15th November 2011 but was ahm, leaked everywhere on the 7th of November.
With Drake Tweeting, "I am not sure if the album leaked. But if it did thank god it doesn't happen a month early anymore." And then followed up with, "Listen, enjoy it, buy it if you like it...and take care until next time."
As it’s 12 am on the 7th in my country right now, I have decided to make a thread looking back for the 10 year thread of the album. As it’s 12 am on the 15th in Toronto right now, I have decided to make a thread looking back for the 10 year thread of the album.
I actually remember waking up before school to check any news of the album and it was already leaked. I was 14, going through a period of listening to all of the singles that never made it to the actual album bar Marvins Room and Headlines. It was the festive season in India, Diwali was around the corner when my iPod Touch 2nd Generation was loaded with Marvins Room by Drake, Lil Wayne, Jojo and even Chris Brown. I would walk around my city at 10pm, soaking in the lights and firecracker smell, just walking downtown and listening to all iterations of Marvins Room, all of the singles off Take Care that I will be discussing further in this post.
I went to school waiting to come back and listen to what I didn’t know, at the time, was going to completely change my life. Take Care changed how I perceived rap music. I have so many memories with the build-up to the album and then the actual album itself. I was making music at the time, and for the best part of one decade after it dropped, all I ever wanted to do was make music like Take Care.
My focus shifted and all I was trying to do was “make good music” no matter how it came, how it sounded, how much it was different from traditional rap music. It was all about making something that sounded good. And to this day, when I listen to Take Care, I have memories that come flooding back, for the better, with tears.
