A list of puns related to "Msx Dos"
The MSX, among many achievements - and beyond its incredible library of hardware and software -, has also one of the most complete, solid, and well-designed Operational Systems of the 8-bits era: the MSX-DOS, which above all is signed and published by no other than the giant Microsoft itself!

Using the BlueMSX emulator via RetroArch, the cheat files from the RetroArch download seem to be .mcf files, which don't show up when I go through the cheats menu to that folder (says 'No files/items present' or something like that)
Is there a way to fix that? Or can this version of RetroArch not use the .mcf files?

RoadMap to the Xtreme Core Set!
To make things less confusing, since we are not contending with not only the Nintendo Classics...but, also the Playstation Classic...I have separated things, so that once you go into the Release, you will now have:
It holds a charge 98% battery. overall condition is OK has a waterproof cover total mileage 2500+. Im the third owner curious what it might get!
ISOzone died and Archive doesn't have all of these (Least not ZX spectrum in particular) so if anyone has them/wants to back them up for the future then that would be well appreciated.
I have a shiny new Brother electric typewriter / word processor (from the local junk shop). This is one of those models with a screen on it which you can use to write documents, save them onto floppy disk, and print them out.
The floppy disk format is very very non-PC compatible. Naturally, I took this as a challenge and after building a floppy drive controller I can now read it. It's weird: 78 3kB tracks, single sided, 256-byte sectors using two different types of GCR encoding, and about 234kB total.
What's even weirder is that after imaging the disk, the file system seems to be standard MSX-DOS, complete with the EB FE 90 disk signature for 8086 machines and the C9 signature for Z80 machines. Here's the top of the boot sector:
00000000 EB FE 90 42 44 4F 53 56 32 35 30 00 01 02 01 00 ...BDOSV250.....
00000010 01 40 00 A8 03 58 03 00 0C 00 01 00 00 00 C9 00 .@...X..........
00000020 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
(everything else is zeros.)
Were there any other MSX-DOS machines which used 256 byte sectors like this?
The machine boots from ROM straight into the word processing environment; it's possible that it's actually running MSX-DOS underneath. Intriguingly, I found a manual (in Dutch) which claims that you can load and run executables from floppy on it; these appear to use an OP2 file extension. Does this mean anything to anyone here?
So I've had this problem with Retroarch in general on both this amazing device and the SNES Mini: No matter how I rebind, I cannot enable the equivalent of "start/select" etc , which I believe are the F1-F5 keys, on the system. Is there anyone who has managed to get these keys bound so I can play Dragon Slayer IV, Metal Gear etc?
I've recently started adding some MSX games to my classic, and it works pretty well, except... I can't figure out how to change the settings so that my MSX roms detect an English-speaking region. It will only playing the Japanese language version of the games.
For those who don't know, a lot of MSX games that were released in multiple regions will somehow detect the region of the system they're playing on and serve up different localizations of the game. So the same ROM will show Japanese text if played on a Japanese system, or translated English text if its played on a British system. For example, this is the case for what are probably the two most popular MSX games these days: Metal Gear and Vampire Killer.
Given that it seems almost everyone adds MSX support in order to play Metal Gear, I'm surprised that this issue hasn't been raised before. But I haven't found anybody asking about this on any of the various subreddits dedicated to classic modding, or to Retroarch in general. Is there something weird with my specific system that is causing it to pretend to be Japanese?
I've verified that the ROMs that I'm using have the correct behavior. Running an MSX ROM on the PC version of Retroarch with the BlueMSX core (with default settings) plays the Japanese version, but running the exact same ROM on the standalone version of BlueMSX (again, with default settings) plays the English version. (I have not figured out how to change this behavior, on either Retroarch or standalone BlueMSX)
I'm very new to MSX emulation, so I'm still learning, but it appears to be a very mature and feature-complete ecosystem. So I'm surprised that I've not been able to find any detailed information about
a) How this was done (i.e., what the ROM is "looking for" in order to detect the desired language), or
b) How to change emulator settings to pretend to be from different regions.
But I'll settle for just getting my NES mini to play the games in English. Does anyone know how to get this to work?
For the record, I'm using an NES Mini with Hakchi CE v3.8.0 and,the latest versions of the BlueMSX core and the "RA BIOS BlueMSX MSX" BIOS module from KMFD's Mod Hub.
I just updated my cdda and deleted my earlier download. I tried to find the dead people tileset in the settings, no luck. Tried an earlier version of dead people, no luck. I looked on github for the dead people tileset and i have no fucking clue how to download it. Any help?
In the description of the tileset (https://github.com/SomeDeadGuy/Cata-MSX-DeadPeopleTileset) it says its been "Designed to be used with mod for character customization" and then links to googledrive where i have absolutely no idea what to do at all...
Does that mean i can change the sprite of my char without fiddling with images and folders (Mod)? Or do i have to copy/paste something??? HELP!!!
I got the link to the supposed download off another post, but even with the directions in the comments I have no clue how to go about actually downloading it and making it work. Can anyone help me out?
Yo yo sup everyone. How's everybody been? Hope all is well. I want to dedicate this post to the Truth and Facts.
MGS Timeline 1995. Outer Heaven Uprising occurs, but is quashed by Solid Snake, who kills Big Boss's Phantom. Fact! My conclusion & interpretation is we have to go build nukes and become Demon Snake.
Mission 46 The Truth, MSX and cassete tape cutscene has the exact same filter, vertical lines that cross the screen when scannin an intel file during a mission. Fact! Conclusion we need all intel files to be scanned.
Mission 16 Traitor's Caravan, has 4 different locations to find an intel file. This intel file is the same as the others, and you can only scan one during mission, when going to another file, they will say you have that info already. So do we have to replay that mission at least four times, and get each different file, I say yes.
Also there was a post a few days ago that mentioned playing the game a certain way, making certain choices, I do feel this is necessary also.
Ground Zeroes Data Cassette Tape. Says not to play in music players. Why is that? Has anyone found a purpose for this tape? I feel this tape is key, whether in GZ or for in TPP, not sure yet.
About a month ago, there was a post of trying to find a soldier by the name of Flaming Whale. I happened to get him as a volunteer after doing FOB event about two weeks ago. So it is possible to get, but not sure if he is key. There is a Whale Codename that you get for using bombardment. Maybe using Bombardment from your support unit, unleashes the third child and flaming whale after a certain number of uses, or nukes gathered, or demon horn growth.
I'll update this post with more Facts and Truth. If you have a Fact to add, please do. Now I know we can still come up with different interpretations and conclusions to these Facts but we have to make sure it makes sense.
Peace and Love.
I think this could be detuning between channels since channels 4 and 5 share the same waveform. However, I do not hear any chorus-like effects in songs played on Trilotracker. If you take a look at the Korg Kamata synth, it can use detuning for chorus-like effects.
