VP2 Motion Compensation stuck on…I think

I recently upgraded to a Vive Pro 2 from an OG Vive. I have a decent rig, but I’m only getting 60fps max.

So, if I’m on the Extreme setting, I get a max of 60fps in any game. If I use the Ultra setting, I get a max of 45fps. This leads me to believe that there’s some sort of software error going on in Vive Console that has motion compensation β€œon” despite me having it β€œoff.” Has anyone else had this problem? Do you know of a fix?

It’s super annoying because every damn game then has horrible frame rate, and a lot of ghosting. I use my headset 90% for sim racing and flight simming. Despite the lovely increase in resolution, it’s much harder to sim race and dogfight with the VP2 compared to the OG Vive for all of the reasons I mentioned above. Please help me figure this out, or tell me that you have the exact same issue. If I can’t find a solution soon, I may just return the headset.

If you need to know, I have a 2080Ti, an i7-9700k, and 16gb of ram. It’s nothing crazy, but I have NEVER struggled in a game. I don’t think this is an issue with my PC hardware. Just…I’m frustrated and dissatisfied with my purchase right now due to these issues.

TL;DR I’m getting exactly half the FPS I should compared to my chosen refresh rate. Why? Or, am I actually held up by my hardware?

Motion compensation with Quest 1?

I'm very intrigued at some of the new motion simulation platforms/chairs that are coming to market. I've always wanted to do VR driving sims, but the lack of full-body motion makes them just completely dull and lifeless to me (not to mention somewhat sickness-inducing). But now that there are 3dof and even 6dof systems available for a few grand, the potential of owning one is becoming real.

BUT there seems to be one huge obstacle - motion compensation. Basically the headset will interpret body movement as head movement, and do the wrong thing because your room isn't moving, resulting in a very very bad experience. There is specialized software to handle this and do "motion compensation" but so far I can't tell if any of it will work with a Quest 1.

YawVR in particular has a chair that looks really sweet (the new one, not the half-dome one) but they only say their motion compensation works with Quest 2, and say nothing about Quest 1.

Does anyone know anything about this space, and know if any of this can be used on a Quest 1?

Sim Rig Motion Compensation for VR

I got my motion rig a few months ago, but haven't had any luck finding a good way to cancel out the rig's movement without having to mount a camera to the rig or re-define my play area every time I wanted to switch between 'cockpit VR' and regular. I've been slowly chipping away at getting a working build out of an older, open source app, which claimed to have already solved that problem.

Well, it turns out someone else was also working it out, and beat me to it:

https://ovrmc.dschadu.de/

It worked for me with a Rift CV1 in ACC as well as Dirt 2.0. I do suggest you take a little time to tune the settings of the app alongside your SimRacingStudio settings. You can leave your rig's maximum angles higher in SimRacingStudio when your rig motion is being cancelled out. However, the wrong compensation values will give a 'swimming' feeling that could become nauseating.

It's an open source middleware app that works with SteamVR to cancel out movement created by motion platforms. Without it, rally games especially suffer, with the car more likely to turn quickly on all axes. Your relationship to the dash and steering wheel can get really out of whack. It makes precise driving or drifting very difficult because your view is doing its own drifting.

But wait, there's more!

If you're more the type to throw money at your problems a simracer, SimRacingStudio has recently made available a more native solution, and looks to be running an "Alpha program". $$ WARNING - Requires premium subscription

Ninth Circuit denies NCAA & confs' motion to temporarily stop the injunction prohibiting the NCAA from enforcing caps on compensation related to education

Here are a couple of tweets from some sports law folks:

> BREAKING: The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has denied the NCAA and conferences' motion to temporarily stay Judge Wilken's injunction prohibiting the NCAA from enforcing caps on compensation related to education. > >Next (likely) step: An appeal to the Supreme Court. > >[Source Tweet]

> This means the injunction will take effect immediately unless the NCAA obtains a stay from the Supreme Court (which is unlikely). NCAA will no longer be able to limit non-cash education-related benefits, though individual conferences and schools can. > >[Source Tweet]

Background on Judge Wilken's injunction, which will now take effect barring further appeal (article from March)

Motion Compensation and Estimation

I’ve been given a task to do some conversion from 50->60 and 60->50.

No matter what I do in my conversions, any scrolls or tickers that are on the source video always come out as choppy and not smooth.

Does anyone have ANY good suggestions on which filter combination I should be using to get as close to flawless solution?

Someone told me about a Snell and Wilcox convertor but that means I need to output to SDI and then Re-encode back.

Questions about motion compensation and performance priority mode

Greetings,

I see these two options on the vive console: Motion Compensation and Performance Priority mode.

What do they do and should I turn them on or off? If I turn them on, would they affect anything while playing games with steamvr? I have a Vive Cosmos so not sure if every one has the same option (I'm a noob in vr related topics and I want to learn more).

Thanks!

Response from Next Level Racing support team on VR Inside-out tracking with motion compensation

I asked Next Level Racing support about whether the inside out tracking on the Rift-S works with their motion compensation software (Headway).

Their response was that they haven't tested it, but one of their customers says the Rift-S works fine in his configuration.

I've read conflicting reports on this, but no definite answer.

Can anyone using a headset with inside out tracking confirm? Does the motion compensation software for the NLR Motion v3 work ok?

Rift S motion compensation??

Hello all,

So I’m going to upgrade to the Rift S, but, I use a 2 dof motion sim for pcars and no limits.

Currently I just turn the sensor around so it can’t track movement, this keeps me positioned inside the cockpit, rather than throw me outside the car!

Obviously now there are no external sensors, does anyone know if there is a way to cancel motion tracking on the S? I’ve tried openVR but it’s super buggy and not really a workable fix.

Thanks!
