#Welcome to Zen_Art 2022!! ๐ฅณ๐๐ฅฒ
Trying out a new regular post.
Bring to this thread one of the myriad images online of Nansen's famous scene. Giving credit to artist/source if known. Meme it up with a funny or deeply profound, enbrightenment-inducing observation.
Each Monday there will be a new case/koan to investigate. Suggestions are welcome.
If that seems too confining, think about the koan from a different perspective, say, that of Mr. Mittens. Something something eight more lives...
The Case
14. Nansen Cuts the Cat in Two (Source: sacred-texts dot com)
Nansen saw the monks of the eastern and western halls fighting over a cat. He seized the cat and told the monks: "If any of you say a good word, you can save the cat."
No one answered. So Nansen boldly cut the cat in two pieces.
That evening Joshu returned and Nansen told him about this. Joshu removed his sandals and, placing them on his head, walked out.
Nansen said: "If you had been there, you could have saved the cat."
Mumon's comment:ย Why did Joshu put his sandals on his head? If anyone answers this question, he will understand exactly how Nansen enforced the edict. If not, he should watch his own head.
Had Joshu been there,
He would have enforced the edict oppositely.
Joshu snatches the sword
And Nansen begs for his life.
We could also just "chat" in this thread too. ๐ธ

This is an indoor cat, approx 3 years old. She is spayed, and up to date on all vaccinations. Approx 12 lbs. No changes to eating/litter box habits. However, we just moved to a new home a few weeks ago and so she's been hiding a bit and not coming around for snuggles. So, I just noticed this tonight and have no idea how long it's been there.
Since we are new to this city/state I don't have an established vet. So, I can either take her to the emergency vet tonight or tomorrow (today is Saturday) or wait to find a vet on Monday. I'm just trying to determine if this a true emergency, and if I can wait, how I can care for this in the meantime? Can I/should I clean and cover it?
Any help is much appreciated.
Edit: thank you all, I will be taking her first thing in the morning to an emergency vet. For tonight she is safely in her clean crate with access to water and her litter box.
Update - have been at the emergency vet for almost 5 hours without having seen anyone yet. They say she is stable and other critical cases are more pressing so it will likely be hours longer before she is seen. Frustrating to say the least but with it being Sunday and emergency clinics few and far between, not necessarily unexpected.
Update 2- the vet was finally able to do a minor exploratory procedure and confirmed that Stormy somehow impaled herself on something and the wound went into the abdominal cavity. Stomach and intestines were exposed but it is unclear if they were also penetrated. She will be going into surgery in a few hours and will need overnight hospitalization. Thank you to everyone that encouraged me to seek emergency care. I hope to have a positive update this evening.
Update 3 - after the surgeon opened her up, they thankfully determined that there was actually NO abdominal cavity penetration. What the initial scope had shown was actually just necrotic fat tissue. Everything was cleaned and debrided and she was closed up. Unfortunately, she did spike a fever of 105 overnight but it was trending down this morning. IV antibiotics and hospitalization will be continued until she is stable and safe to come home.
In other news, we believe we have determined where she impaled herself and will be ensuring that the area is blocked off and any and all potential hazards are removed to prevent anything like this from happening again.
Final update: 48 hours after my initial post, Stormy is back home resting
... keep reading on reddit โกI called him my kitchen cat, but really he was all about smells and where they were made. So of course he was a bathroom cat too. For 13 years I never brushed my teeth alone, nor pooped, nor cooked. I couldn't clean a dish without him inspecting it. He knew the stovetop was the danger zone but was always there nearby. I can't count how many times I found him annoying while I was late and trying to rush through the morning rituals. Now my mornings are sad as there is no annoyance. I lost my soul-cat. I am sad. I miss my Satsumi. I wish he was in the way now and I regret every time he pissed me off. He was a great lap-kitty too and I don't think I would have made it through the quarantines without him.
EDIT: I want to thank everyone who commiserated with me. I am kinda a "tough guy" and I couldn't believe a cat could derail me so. Your words have helped me get from pain to being thankful he was in my life.

As title suggest. This is one cat who LOVES to play. Hes a big beautiful boy named Snowball. Seeing him crippled like this has broken my heart and he has lost his outdoor privilege's (though I plan to build him an outdoor enclosure)
I want him to have a good quality of life, and it's hard because he just loves to be mobile, his broken leg be damned. I have thought to keep him in a nicely sized cage while I'm at work, with birds on the tv and a shelter for darkness. Any tips going forward how I take care of my cat after his surgery Monday?
His name is Tonks He's a small black cat and he has chylothorax which means there's a build up of fatty liquid in his lungs and his condition is worsening. He's going to die soon if we don't put him down, so we have to put him down. I cannot find the words to express how much I'm scared and hurt. I've never really felt loss before especially not so close. Tonks helped me through some really tough years in my life and I'm not ready to say goodbye. Ninjon posted a video called, "Miniature Memorial to a Good Boy" https://youtu.be/gWLCu6AAlRI In the video he found a miniature of the same breed of his dog and paints it to have a memorial of his dog. I'm not a very good painter but painting is my therapy and I feel like painting a memorial of Tonks will really help me process his leaving me. So if anyone knows of a good place to get quality miniatures or models of cats in any scale that I could use to make the memorial I would really appreciate help. I'll probably look around online, but if someone already knows of some good miniatures, that would be nice I have a 3d printer so stl files also will work for me Price is not an issue for me because I want the memorial to be the highest quality I can. If there is a different reddit page or some forum that would be better to find this please let me know Thank you
