A list of puns related to "Mito, Ibaraki"
Hi, I am a 71 year old American expat living in Mito, Ibaraki-.
I run a max of 5k, very slowly.
Is there a "Slow Jogging Club" near Senba Lake - Park ?
Thanks
Does anyone know of a good dentist in Mito Shi Ibaraki..?
...if they speak English added plus.
Thanks,
J8
I'm going out to teach in Japan in late August and I've been told I will be living in Mito City( as long as there are no major changes). I've tried googling it tho and not much has came up. Does anyone know much about the area? I've been told it's an hours train journey to Tokyo on the express train. I'm thinking I'll probably end up going into Tokyo most weekends if thats correct? I'm really looking forward to it tho and I'd love to hear from people who know anything about the area and what life could be like.
Just curious to see who's doing the JLPT on Sunday at Ibaraki University in Mito... I'll be there.
+++ UPDATE - TOURNAMENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO RISING INFECTION NUMBERS IN OSAKA PREFECTURE :( +++
Me again, your favourite kendo-blog spammer. Found some time to do a โshortโ write up to those, who are interestedใAlso, because I think the Todofuken deserves a little more recognition.
Just as any other kendo event, the 68th Interprefecture Championships were cancelled last year. Luckily, the 69th edition of that tournament will be (as per plan) held on April 29th in (as always in recent years) the Osaka Edion Arena.
Short background info: the format is an All Japan Kendo Championship (AJKC) โฆ but for teams. Basically, the prefectures are fighting against each other (hence the name). A team consists of 7 players, with each position being assigned to specific age, profession and rank:
Osaka has won the championship 15 times, followed by Tokyo (12), Fukuoka and Kumamoto (5 times each).
For more general info about the Todofuken see here (Japanese)
The matches hence often start very heated and dynamic with the high school and university students first and calm down when reaching the last two bouts.
Just as in the recent AJKC, police officers were not allowed to participate in their respective prefectural qualifying. They have been in lockdown since the last year as they are police officers first, tasked with serving the people and as such activities like as kendo or judo and participating in tournaments are prohibited in order to minimise the risks of them spreading the

If you feel it's appropriate to share NSFW jokes with your kids, that's on you. But a real, true dad joke should work for anyone's kid.
Mods... If you exist... Please, stop this madness. Rule #6 should simply not allow NSFW or (wtf) NSFL tags. Also, remember that MINORS browse this subreddit too? Why put that in rule #6, then allow NSFW???
Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.
Thank you,
A Dad.
Well, toucan play at that game.

Inspired by Lonely Planet, I decided to make a "Top 500" list for Japan. A bit overkill, perhaps.
A brief explanation of the methodology: the list mostly breaks up Japan into municipalities, though in some cases where different parts of the municipality are obviously separate (in the case of islands, for example), two spots in the same municipality might appear on the list separately. A few regions (consisting of multiple municipalities) are also grouped together. Either because they're an obvious region to visit (like the islands of Awaji and Shodoshima), or because I think they're particularly interesting as a whole, and worth highlighting that way (for example, the Sanriku coastline appears very high on the list, but none of the individual municipalities along the coast would merit a place in the Top 50 by themselves).
Another warning: this only includes places I've been to, so no, uh, Tokyo Disneyland.
I don't expect anyone to read the whole list, but feel free to poke at my top choices if you like. Or perhaps to get inspired... ;-)
