1-10 COVID-19 Update for Santa Clara County

NOTE that the data below covers the past 3 days, as the county doesn't update the dashboards on weekends.

Summary:

County net new cases: 14719
New cases over last 7 days: 14388
County new deaths: N/A
Case ratio excluding last 2 days: 1.80
Case ratio excluding last 5 days: 2.48
Daily case rate per 100k: 193.86
Test positivity: 16.58%
Updated Wednesdays/Fridays:
Daily Case Rate per 100k (Vaccinated 5+) 7 Day Lag: 98.0
Daily Case Rate per 100k (Unvaccinated age 5+) 7 Day Lag: 312.5

The county reported 14719 net new cases, and I count 14388 cases falling within the past 7 days. The county reports on deaths on Fridays.

The growth of new cases, eliminating the most recent 2 days and then comparing the previous 7 days to the 7 days before that, we end up with 1.80. If we do the same, but eliminate the most recent 5 days, we end up with 2.48. In all cases, a number over 1 means the number of new cases per day is growing, a number less than 1 means the number of new cases per day is shrinking.

The daily average case rate per 100k over the past 7 days (excluding the most recent four days) is 193.86.

Note that the date a case is reported on is the date of the first test, not when the results were reported, so the data for the last 5 days is incomplete and cases will continue to be added to those dates.

Asking for a job offer review: Redmond vs. Santa Clara

I was given this offer:

  • a furnished apartment (rent, bills and parking also free)
  • a yearly gross salary of $150K
  • L-1A visa and a green card application during the first year (all involved fees to be paid by them)

Options for locations: Redmond, WA (in front of Downtown Park) or Santa Clara, CA (in front of Santa Clara Central Park)

Since I live in Europe, I do not have any knowledge about either of the locations.

As locals, would you recommend Redmond over Santa Clara? With this kind of salary, if I do not pay the rent and bills, would I have a comfortable life? My hobbies include sailing, hiking, nature, indoor pistol shooting. Can I continue to have them with alternatives in Redmond?

Thanks in advance.

Santa Clara County is telling us 'new use' is considered 'new construction' and requires we annex to the city and pay $44,000 in fees.

We bought an unincorporated house in Santa Clara County and the planning department is telling us because there was a change of use (non-residential to residential), the change of use is considered new use, and the new use is considered new construction. The property is already zoned as residential and has been used as residential for over 2 decades. New construction is automatically annexed to the city. I have attempted to read the zoning ordinance of Santa Clara County and can not find anywhere it is defined that new use is new construction. I believe they're pushing this to collect tax money.

Our goal is to do an interior only remodel which does not qualify as new construction.

My legal question is to ask for help finding this definition as the planning department is refusing to cite the zoning ordinance or law that defines "new use = new construction". Their position is that the planning manager is the zoning administrator and has the authority to interpret the zoning ordinance however they wish.

Property Tax reassessment "market value" in Santa Clara County...

I live in Santa clara county... today I got an alert that my property tax amount is going to be reassessed because of a title transfer based on market value...

For anyone else that has gone thru this, does this amount usually come close to whatever the property value is on zillow/redfin etc? Or is it slightly less? I'm trying to estimate how much my property tax will be increasing by for budgeting purposes...

Edit: this was triggered because my parents used to be on the deed 50% with me. Now after we refinanced and took them off they are saying they need to reasses. Apparently I don't qualify for an exemption because they never had it as their primary residence.

Daily Case Rate per 100k (Unvaccinated age 5+) 7 Day Lag: 237.4

The county reported 1986 net new cases, and I count 2178 cases falling within the past 7 days. The county reports on deaths on Fridays.

The growth of new cases, eliminating the most recent 2 days and then comparing the previous 7 days to the 7 days before that, we end up with 3.26. If we do the same, but eliminate the most recent 5 days, we end up with 3.08. In all cases, a number over 1 means the number of new cases per day is growing, a number less than 1 means the number of new cases per day is shrinking.

The daily average case rate per 100k over the past 7 days (excluding the most recent four days) is 108.41.

Note that the date a case is reported on is the date of the first test, not when the results were reported, so the data for the last 5 days is incomplete and cases will continue to be added to those dates.

12-29 COVID-19 Update for Santa Clara County

Summary:

County net new cases: 1050
New cases over last 7 days: 1041
County new deaths: N/A
Case ratio excluding last 2 days: 2.62
Case ratio excluding last 5 days: 2.85
Daily case rate per 100k: 33.45
Test positivity: 5.76%
Updated Wednesdays/Fridays: (now updated!)
Daily Case Rate per 100k (Vaccinated 5+) 7 Day Lag: 27.0
Daily Case Rate per 100k (Unvaccinated age 5+) 7 Day Lag: 103.6

The county reported 1050 net new cases, and I count 1041 cases falling within the past 7 days. The county reports on deaths on Fridays.

The growth of new cases, eliminating the most recent 2 days and then comparing the previous 7 days to the 7 days before that, we end up with 2.62. If we do the same, but eliminate the most recent 5 days, we end up with 2.85. In all cases, a number over 1 means the number of new cases per day is growing, a number less than 1 means the number of new cases per day is shrinking.

The daily average case rate per 100k over the past 7 days (excluding the most recent four days) is 33.45.

Note that the date a case is reported on is the date of the first test, not when the results were reported, so the data for the last 5 days is incomplete and cases will continue to be added to those dates.
