Itโs my sonโs birthday soon. His birthday is on a Wednesday and Iโve organised a party for the weekend after. Everything has been arranged and the invites sent. Now, my husband wants me to reschedule it to the weekend after the original party date as something has come up and he might not be able to fly here in time for the party. I told him no and that he should prioritise our son and come to the party like he was supposed to.
He kept insisting he couldnโt reschedule his other arrangement and told me I need to reschedule the party. I refused to and told him they can do something else when he finally decides to see our kids but I wasnโt going to change the party. Now heโs angry at me and keeps sending me angry texts threatening to cancel the party himself.
I want to be upfront and say weโre only married on paper, and if our relationship was still what it once was I would probably try harder to make this work but now I prioritise my sonโs feelings hence refusing to reschedule.

My ex was supposed to see our son on Saturday. He told me 30 minutes before he was supposed to be here that he wouldnโt be able to make it as an emergency had come up that needed his attention. When I asked what the emergency was all he would say was work.
Now, my ex completely abandoned our son for close to 2 years so a big part of me thinks heโs lying. For that reason, when he asked to reschedule, I told him no and said he would have to wait until next week. This isnโt the first time this has happened and usually I would agree to reschedule.
Now he and his family are threatening to get full custody. I know I shouldnโt poke the bear in this case because I really canโt afford to go back to court again but Iโm just so sick of him thinking he gets to dictate everything and not think about how our son feels when he doesnโt show up.

First off, Iโd like to say that disliking lengthy monologues is a subjective experience and a valid criticism for a TV series as it can stop being entertaining and start to feel like a lecture. But to me, out of all of Flanaganโs productions so far, this series was the perfect vehicle for monologues.
Why? Because the characterโs monologues are mirrors to the sermons in the church. Theyโre a mirror to the lengthy gospels and verses in the Bible. If you think about what the characters are expressing in their monologues and then what youโd hear from a sermon or Bible verses, the only difference is the subject matter is not always about God, but other than that they all deal with ethics, morality, dealing with hardships in life, empathy and generally similar themes.
The reason why Iโm making this post is I havenโt seen anyone mention this aspect to the monologues. To me, this parallel entirely justified the use of as many monologues as Flanagan did.
