It's going to be educative for anyone willing to learn, not just competitive players. It's gonna be fun! Hope many of you will watch and take part of it :)
I will be streaming and commentating the entire event on twitich.tv/Caecius with a 10 min delay. Starting in a little bit.
Their site doesn't specify whether handicaps are given and I'm not sure what range of players to expect - if its worth joining as a 9k.
Basically, i want to go for a university abroad, and its almost mandatory for you to have an olympiad medal to get into one, specially if you're an international student. People say that universities want diversity, but art is useless, and tbh, on overall life art is bullshit and only a distraction for more important objectives, it wont get me money and wont make me a scientist.
People say i'm a good artist, and that i should keep working on my skills, but considering the wake of recent events related to olympiads and the fact i'm seriously thinking it is turning me into a degenerate (ended up drawing furry art, not nsfw, just anthro futuristic animals, but i still feel disgusted for drawing such things, and some friends tell me that i'm going down a bad path drawing them), i seriously am considering trying to "murder" my art passion away, and let my skills fade away with time, while at the same time trying to force a passion for olympiads and something useful like basketball.
Are there any ways to kill my passion and turn it into something else? this includes both 3d and 2d art. No, i dont care that i'm "acting childish" for wanting to do something like this. No, i wont listen to comments saying that i shouldnt do such a thing and instead focus on X: I'm here because i want to kill my passion, not become more diverse.
Why am i asking this here? Because everywhere else i asked i was called a bumbling, childish, idiot who wanted to murder "a beatiful swan". A beatiful swan is not getting me into a T20 nor a good place out of the shithole i live
Soo yeah. How can i murder my artistic passion/skills and focus it into olympiads and sports instead?
I did a recap of the 2020 results last year, here, on the 5 most prestigious science Olympiad events. This will be a summary of results in 2021.
I. MATH: https://www.imo-official.org/year_country_r.aspx?year=2021
China is no.1 overall, for the third year running, and has the individual top scorer in Wang Yichuan. Russia came in second, with South Korea at 3rd.
II. PHYSICS: https://www.ipho2021.lt/en/results/
Top individual scorer is Kim Kyung-min of South Korea, with participants from China taking 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place, followed by Leo Yao (6th) and Li Zhening (7th) of the US. Country wise, South Korea, China, Russia and the US are top performers with 5 gold medalists each.
III. Chemistry: https://www.icho2021.org/icho2021/closing/
Can't find a page with the results listed. Instead we have this wacky video of the closing ceremony (link above). Top 3 medalist are announced at 26:46 mark. Clean sweep by China, with Yang Shu taking first place.
IV. INFORMATICS (Programming) : https://stats.ioinformatics.org/results/2021
Another clean sweep by China. The 4 contestants from China took the top 4 spots, followed by Rain Jiang of the US.
V. Biology: https://ibo2021.org/results/
No individual results listed, only a tabulation of gold/silver/bronze medalists in no particular order. Best performers (by country) are China and China.... that's the PRC and ROC (i.e. Taiwan). United States have two gold medalists in Judson Lam and Albert Zhang.
Some observations:
I asked, are you a pole vaulter?
To which he replied ‘No. I am German. But how do you know my name?’

I follow Pita Taufatofua on Instagram - you may remember him as the athlete at the Rio Opening ceremonies who carried the Tongan flag, shirtless and shiny with coconut oil. This week he qualified for the Tokyo Games in his main sport, taekwondo. However, he is also trying to qualify in kayak (didn't make it in his most recent attempt due to an injury, but he has another shot coming up). Has any athlete participated in two completely separate sports in the same Games? Not just different events or disciplines, but separate sports entirely? I asked Pita (thanks, IG!), and he didn't know.
Personally I am looking forward to this more than the next world championship and candidates tournament. It seems like in team tournaments players try a little harder and especially play out drawn positions which I like to see, and the national aspect makes this happen even more.
And the American team is going to be STACKED. Aronian, Caruana, So, Dominguez Perez, and either Shankland or Nakamura. Three top ten players and all over 2700!
I understand life events can have an impact but I still am curious how effective exercise can be.
If I qualified for AIME by passing the AMC test, do I just write that I passed, or is there some document I get from passing AMC that I submit?
